Basically once the playoff seedings are set, pick the winners of each round, and once I get together with my man BillLaimbeer, we'll figure out some tie break scenarios.
I'll provide more info on Friday.
FYI, the prizes are shaping up pretty good. Looks like we should have at least 5.

Sorry fellas, I got sidetracked with video stuff.
Prizes to include
1 or 2 hardcover copies of Blue Collar Blue Print by Eli Zaret. You need to be able to read to enjoy this prize ;). It is one of the best Pistons history books I have had
Some PF.com T-Shirts
Looks like possibly 2 replica 2004 Championship Rings (the kind they handed out, 5,000 only on the banner hanging night)
And I've got a glossy reprint 8 x 10 of a signed Rip Hamilton photo. Yes, it's a reprint not the original signed photo (but it is better than a kick in the pants).
More details to follow tomorrow hopefully. I just found out today that Alex Acker's 31 point D-League game is being broadcast in the Great White North and I want to record that (amongst some other things).
We're still taking any posts from interested parties. As many people as want to play, can.

Ok guys, the playoff brackets should be set after tonight. Unfortunately a lot of crappy teams are taking their sweet time seeding themselves.
I'll update tomorrow (hopeful that brackets are ready) on what you need to do to compete. So keep an eye on this thread, and remember, your picks will have to be in before Saturday at noon.
Btw, I'm more than willing to ship prizes internationally, so members abroad should feel free to participate.

Roscoe, are we also going to be picking how long we think each series will go? Like "Spurs over Mavs in the 2nd round in 7 games" or whatever. I'm guessing that would probably provide enough separation between different brackets for any tiebreaks that might be necessary.
roscoe36
04-17-2006, 02:39 PM
Yep. BillLaimbeer has devised an intricate system for tiebreaks based upon series length, lunar calendar and the average air speed of an unladen swallow.
Needless to say, accurately predicting each series length will yield a better standing.

Ok guys, I won't be able to get the brackets out until tomorrow morning as the West is still a toss up based upon late games.
Tomorrow, I'll be posting a printable playoff bracket which you can play with, and instructions on how to put your entry in.
It is VERY important that you have your brackets posted no later than tip off of the first Saturday game. I will upate the exact time as the playoff sched. is released (hopefully tomorrow).
But we know the Pistons have the Bucks, the Cavs have the Wiz, the Mavs have the Grizz and the Clippers play the Nuggs. I think.
Be ready.

I appreciate the sentiment but I know a near mathematical elimination when it stares me in the face.
Alas, Arenas misses a last second shot and the Wiz blow two 14 point leads to account for three of the Cav's four wins. And the Lakes lose after taking what should have been an impossible to come back from lead in the series.
So close...

As a tie breaker.

roscoe36

Scoring is as such.
There are 15 possible correct answers for series winners.
8 in Round 1
4 in Round 2
2 in Round 3
1 in Round 4
Yes, it is attrition, but with 40+ entrants, there has to be a way to narrow the field. Even if we were using series differential, the folks losing teams in the first round would be eliminated (albeit a little slower in some cases and faster in others).
In the event of a tie (which seems likely there will be several), we'll use the net first round outcome differential as a tie break.
Prizes are starting to roll in. Sometime this week I will get the prize allocations together.
Remember, we are splitting the prizes up to award more than one individual and the final allocation has not been set. Just because you may be out of the grand champion running doesn't mean that there is no chance of reward. This is NOT an all or nothing proposition.

Nice calls...maybe?
Bill Laimbeer and Panoptican both predicted a Heat victory over the Mavs in the finals. I think Bill can tie the two leaders (he is two points behind with 3 potential points outstanding and I believe all 3 have Dallas winning this round) if Miami wins it all. :puke:Panoptican is too far behind from the early rounds to catch up.
Most people picked the Pistons over the Spurs. (myself, and a few others had Detroit over Dallas).
I think I'm in good position to nab one of those T-shirts. If I won, I would have requested to trade down for one anyhow! :D

I'm confused about scoring.
I got 6 points in the first round (I called the Nuggets and the Lakers to move on).
But then I only got 1 point in the second round? (I called the Pistons, Heat, and Maverics to move on.)
And in the Conference Finals DarthTater has given me a point, but I would have thought that I shouldn't get anything, since I called Pistons over Heat and Mavs over Nuggets. Don't I need to have both the participating teams and the winner correct in order to score?

You get one point for every series you call correctly. You got nothing for the Pistons over the Heat (unfortunately) because Detroit lost. You got one point for the Mavs winning that round (didn't matter who they beat). You just need the winner of that round.
I'll check the second round. If you called those 3 teams then you should have earned 3 points there.

Just joking, I`m not a sore loser, however, "nobody remembers who finishes second", would be appropriate, loser is kinda harsh...........:pout:

Congratulations Motown! Job well done. :peace::whoo:The cream always rises to the top!
Thanks VERY much to Micro for sponsoring the contest and making every playoff series more interesting since we had something riding on it. Your generosity is greatly appreciated by the forum members.
I'll wear my "consolation" T-shirt proudly.

Nice job Mo. Not only did you win the playoff pool, but you also correctly guessed the contents of the black box. You're on a roll! :thumb:
I'd also like to echo Tater's thanks to Micro and the staff for putting it on and offering up the prizes. You guys rock!:hail:

A better tiebreaker would have been picking the Conference and Finals winners. Since I correctly predicted Miami over Dallas, I would have won the entire pool.
The funniest part was that I actually created the tiebreaker for this contest. Congrats to Motown and Dlev for beating me at my own game...
