Congratulations LeBron. You and your boys win the boobie prize. Here it is:

Deeetroiiiiiiit Basketbaaaaalllllll

King James of Cadaverland, let us introduce you to our Prince and his 4 valiant knights of the rectangular table. They are difficult to tell apart. Any one of them will prevent you from conquering the kingdom of Naismith. The Pistons are like mosquitoes. Slap down one and two more of his friends will inevitably strike you from the other side.

Your time may come...but not this year.

Go Pistons! The only thing they need to do is not let the games come down to the last couple of minutes (we don't need to lose a couple of games over phantom fouls on LeBron or traveling moves that aren't whistled).

Pistons in 6. :peace: Let the games begin!

It is very obvious that the Cav`s are very happy to BE in the playoffs and advance to the second round. You would have thought they won in it all based on the celebration after the win over the lackluster Wizards.

The experts say you can learn much in the playoffs, even in a losing situation. If that`s the case; Lebron and friends, classes will begin Sunday at 3:30 pm.

I picked the Cav`s, in 6 games by the way to advance but I really wanted the Wiz. I expect the Pistons to jump out to an earlylead in game one and bury the Cav`s. A double digit win is in order, for games one and two.

We all know Lebron is going to get some calls, WE MUST NOT COMPLAIN TO THE REFS! Just play and end this thing in 5.

After gaining a 2-0 lead, look for the game 3 let down before responding with wins in games 4 and 5. Oops, getting a little ahead of myself.....

Cavs haven't won a playoff series since '93, Dlev. I think that's the reason for the celebration and because of the way they won it. They acted like they haven't been there before, because they haven't.

Anyway, who came up with the schedule? Why in the world teams that played and finish their series start their next series on Sunday? The Heat and Nets finished their 1st round series on Thursday, however they don't start their 2nd round series til Mon. Really does not make sense.

I want the Pistons to win the Championship without other teams complaining that they did not have enough rest.

i know that some people would have wanted to play the Wiz to demonstrate that their 3 regular season victories over us were flukes. and i partly wanted that too.

but the matchup we got is much bigger than any post-season payback for regular season uppity-ness. this is the best team against the best player (and NBA and media darling). the nba and the media are like a teenage boy his first time they are so eager to crown lebron the next mj and set him off on his string of championships. so i for one am glad that the pistons are here to remind the boy (and his slobbering suitors) that it's not time yet, that he's gotta go cry in the lockerroom a few more years before hoisting the hardware. this year, second round, nice job young fella. keep working hard over the summer. next year, who knows, maybe we'll let you play heroically into the conference finals before we send you home.

as for the actual hoops, i think one of the keys, in addition to things others have already said, is 1) no second opportunity maniac hustle points from the undertalented overenergetic gooden and varejao (they must be non factors on the offensive boards) and 2) keep a lock on their more perimeter oriented scorers. If they take care of those two things, the pistons should win easily. Of course, they'll have their let downs and they might let a game or even two slip away.

all that said, i now return to my playoff stillness: it's a good game when we score more than they do and only that game matters.

HERRRRRRE we go!
One OldSkool Fool's keys to the series:

1. BEN WILL show up. He will get 12/13 RPG AND average 11 PPG. He will totally nuetralize Gooden and the Cavs have no big man off the bench who can handle...
2. THE DICENATOR. Dice must show in the post area. I like his j's but I prefer his drives and putbacks. 12PPg and 8RPg for the Dice Man will make it an even balltle for.....
3. SHE-EED vs Z-Ill. All sheed has to do is stay even with him meaning 15.5 PPg will be enough and we need his out game more than his post game to pull Z-Ill away from the basket. That will allow for the best mismatch of all.........
4. THE PISTON GUARDS X 4. The cavs have no defense in their backcourt that can keep any of them from doing what they to. I see at least two 30 pt-games for Chauncey while Rip will avg 6 APG , mostly to Ben on the pick and slam! I see at least one 15 point game for T-D and Lindsay will frustrate Snow and Murray as usual. The guards dominating will allow the defensive scheme to work, meaning.....
5. TAY CAN FOCUS JUST ON D. James will avg 28 PPG just on the common sense that he will take 25 shots per game and be given 8 FT's per game. If we can make James average more shots than points(i.e. 30 pts on 32 shots), We can take the rest of the Cavs out the game mentally. When King does well, the others tag along like little girls. All tay has to do is make him work. Tay will average 7 PPG and still have a great series.

PISTONS IN 5......BTW, I will continue to punk Damon Jones like the liitle sissy he is until I bury him . Eva Longoria got more game than him. He will shoot 2-18 in the series. The little wuss...

I want to watch the hype machine build up LeBron into a teenage basketball God.

And then have to come up with explanations as to why his team is getting shredded.

All the hype is on the kid who will lead his team to championship competition, someday. Will this get under the Pistons skin to the point where they get pissed enough to sweep this team? I hope so. If not, Pistons in five.

This series will be over in 5.

I expect alot of close games though.

Although there are a number of subplots that can be drawn for this game, the most important one will be how poised the Pistons remain in this series. If our team keeps its composure, this series will be over quickly. Cut the chatter, stick to what matters...and its a wrap!

I like the spunk LBJ showed walking up to Arenas on the free throw line and saying "if you miss this it's over". I remember Barkley telling some kid at the stripe with the game on the line - "I bet you couldn't jam a needle up your a** with a hammer".

I really didn't like LBJ's demeanor during the timeouts late in the fourth and in overtime. He just sat there staring ahead chewing on his finger. If he's going to lead he needs to be up talking to his teammates, encouraging them, getting them up, not sitting sucking on his thumb.

This one was over when the Pistons took Cavs first punch and the Pistons went down 12-7 before the Flip TO. The Pistons responded with a 19-4 run, and never looked back. A 10 pt lead at the end of the first was extended to a 21 pt lead by halftime. Dice and Hunter scored 12 pts apiece in the second to help the Pistons run a 43 point quarter:eyebrows: Hunter was unstoppable from the beyond the three. Neither he or Dice scored in the second half......

La Bron did not score in the second half either (he did not play in the 4th). Tay shut him down and scored his own 24 to offset the Kings 22pts.

Excuses will be that we had 3 days off and they had 1, but even at their best, it still would be a big win of at least 15+.

Rip tweaked his ankle again, but stayed out there to hit 50% from the floor and score 20 points. CB only took 5 shots , but dished out 10 assists, mostly in the 3rd qtr when the lead ballooned to 37 points.

ben had 11 points and four blocks, but was still awfensively awful. Missed two Fts by 2 feet and bricked 2 other jumpers.

Three point barrage in the first half was enough to kill any opposing team. Pistons made 15 3 balls and 14 FT's....

11 more W's to the Ship, but take one at a time....

I missed the first three quarters...so the score in the 2nd quarter was 43-32 Pistons? Dayum! That's a lotta points.

Obviously Cleveland was drained from the super-close Wiz series, but I'm not sure they're going to be able to recover all that much even by Tuesday. I'm smelling another big win, if not necessarily as much of a whipping as today.

The team is operating on all cylinders for the first time all year. That is what they are capable of. Tay is our 5th all star. Ben played up for the ABC audience. The bench is there--they showed glimpes of this vs. the Bucks. And Hunter can hit shots--he finally gets it at age 35. Evans continues to give good minutes. Cato can hit a shot and we may use him against Shaq.

Hard to find anything negative to say about this one although I thought Dice's help defense in the first half sucked, but he was so good on offense, that it didn't matter. Seems to be Flip's philosophy. Let's outscore them so we don't have to defend as hard. Just as long as the defense is there when they need it. The Prince block on James was awesome. My favorite moment. The Hunta's three-ball barrage was a sight to behold. Just like at Jackson State.

It was an amazing shooting display. Hard to get too excited as the team will not be that hot everygame.

Hard to say what the margin would have been if the team was shooting as they normally do. LBJ was almost held scorless in the 2nd half so thats something to say about the D.

Also this has to be a morale dagger to the inexperienced Cavs team. Perhaps they will not be able to recover.

That game was a riot. Wow. Tay's block on LBJ (does anyone else have a hard time because those initials make them think of Lyndon Johnson?) and Ben's on Gooden; some of Chauncey's needle-threading zip passes; Lindsey dropping into the triple zone; and just overall the unbelievable shooting. (And I agree Max, they won't be that hot every game, especially not from behind the arc, but we've got to trust that had they not been that hot, they would have done other things -- eliminating second chance opportunities for example -- that much better in order to compensate).

The only thing that broke my heart yesterday -- as someone with a soft spot for Delfino -- was one play where he drove the lane and shoveled off to Dale Davis, who wasn't even looking for the pass so that it sailed out of bounds. On the way back up, Delfino just looked at DD and held his hands out, palms up, as if to say, "huh?" (this was after Delfino had already thrown two passes away for which he alone was to blame). That made me think about some of Delfino's beautiful play with the starters earlier in the season (just about up until his horrendous performance when he started for Rip against the Magic, I think it was) and how far, though his effort is still there, he's slipped. I like the guy and I like his game okay and I hope he gets to go somewhere else because this team is just too good and he'll never get the minutes necessary to really develop his potential (whatever it might be). At least he got to drain a triple.

yeah on a sidenote, we had more turnovers than the cavs (10 to 9). of course, 3 were from delfino and 2 were from davis, so...yeah.

it was hilarious when varejao ran down the court for his two dunks in garbage time. the first time he tried to slam the ball so hard and almost tripped and fell over after he was done. i yelled out "don't hurt yourself!", and then the next time he tried to do a head fake while dribbiling and it was just not a pretty site.

how bout cato with the shooting touch? heh

I'm having problems getting my mind around this game. I'm really wasn't expecting a full blown blow out. Even the cat got up and wandered off around the middle of the third quarter.

The Pistons took a load of threes, but other than Hunter's heat-check-I'm-putting-it-up-as-soon-as-I-cross-midcourt heaves, they seemed to flow right out of the offense. Good chance they won't hit that many again, but also pretty good chance they wouldn't have taken that many if they weren't going down.

Five turnovers when it counted is pretty impressive, along with all the blocks, etc.

Sometimes this team is just scary.

How much funnier was it to watch the "we are all witnesses" commericial during the 3rd quarter (I think) of this game?

Wow, I guess you can win in the playoffs with a lot of jumpshooting. Just so we have something to worry about let's hope the Pistons don't start to over-rely on it.

Let's see I hit the opponent score on the knob, 86.
Yeah, I'll take some lovin' for that.

one thing i was really impressed with (if this was by design): at one point in the 2nd or 3rd quarter lebron was bringing the ball up halfcourt, we only had 1 or 2 team fouls, rip didn't have many.

he basically hounded lebron up to halfcourt and played real tight and physical on him, knowing he was going to get a foul called. i thought that was a great play because they could afford to have the foul called, and it kept lebron out of any comfort zone he might have had, and forced the cavs to inbound and play halfcourt on the next possession.

I'm not sure if it's the same play you're talking about, wart, but on a play like the one you described, the announcers even commented on it and praised rip, citing it as an example of the sort of little thing an intelligent, veteran team thinks to do in the playoffs. like you said, it keeps him out of his comfort zone. it might seem like one play, but with a player like Lyndon Baines Johnson, one tough hoop (or a three point play) can easily lead to 10 straight.

Couple things noone has talked about:

Rip's heart ~ I think they picked the wrong person for the "D-Wade picking himself up again" commercial.
Delfino looks lost ~ Man, has his stock dropped. His confidence appears to be at all-time low.
Rip circus shot in the first quarter ~ So pretty. Dribble, step, cradle, scoop layup. NICE!!
Delk and Rip's man to man Defense ~ We really don't have any weaknesses in our lineup on D now. (Sorry Arroyo) Delk was very effective and I'm convinced that Rip deserves 2nd team all-defense honors.
94% from three point land up to the middle of the third quarter. Incredible shooting display. One shy of three point record for the half. I'm sure TheeFD was elated. :)

Yeah Delfino looked lost. He showed great performances against Pierce and other good forwards and should of got more pt earlier. Evans is doing well right now so I'm hoping he gets in the rotation next season.

I say we break the record for made 3s. Why not?
