It's time to start thinking about your preseason predictions.
The predictions thread will be a nice change, allowing us to review each persons picks and reasoning.
Each year we've taken predictions on:
Team records in the East & West Conference
Playoff seeds
Winners in each round of the playoffs right through the finals
Any comments to support your picks It's still too early to take these predictions since final rosters aren't set.
I'd like to solicite some opinions on the format of the predictions.
Please answer your choices
What date would you like to see the final predictions in by?
The same day the season starts
A week into the season
Other (comments) How would you like to see the final results taken?
Split winners of those who picked best records in their conf from those that predicted playoffs & Finals winners.
An average scale of those that were closest to predicting where teams would finish in their conf. and playoff success (a combined average).
Just list everones results (no bragging rights)
Anyone who predicted the finals winner is top dog
Other (what would you do differently) This year opinions will be taken into consideration.

I would like to include predictions for the individual player awards. MVP, Defensive Player, etc..

1.I agree with with Motown but I wouldn't include individual teams record (too complicated).
2. Completely agree with Motown.
3. I'll go for the bragging rights. Winner takes all.:eyebrows:

I will format and provide a page within the forum for the end data.
I will also kick out a prize to a master winner so we will need a tie-break mechanism based upon secondary predictions.
Great idea Merc, keep it rolling!

I think a prediction of playoff seeds would be fun. Everyone picks #1-#8 in both conferences.
You could score it by just adding the differences in finish and predicted finish. For example, if you predicted San Antonio #1 in the West and they finished #4, you get 3 points. Just add this 3 points to the other 15 differences. The smallest number of points is the winner.
I think predictions should be due by the opening tipoff of the first game.

I took predictions between the end of the preseason and end of the first week of the regular season.
I never really scored who did best in playoff predictions, as the exact matchups are really near impossible to predict. All you can do there really is predict who the Eastern and Western Champs will be and predict who will win the Championship. Here, I would just list predictions. (By the way, with this threaded forum though, it really is not needed as people can just read the thread.
On finish order, what I did is gave a point for each team you picked to make the playoffs. Then, I gave a bonus point for each of those teams you got within 2 positions of their actual finish. To restate this, I just wrote down each person's top 8 teams. Each of those 8 teams that made the playoffs earned that person one point. If you predicted a team to get 3rd best record, and that team got 1 thru 5, you got the bonus point.

Huh?
I think Bill Laimbeer's system is simpler and would be as effective, lol

Whatever we do, Merc, let's not do it this way.

My bad roscoe.
It's okay.
I would like the same deadline that everyone else gets. Before the 1st regular season game I believe.
Publishing picks? I am not sure how that can be handled. Post a thread and its not going to last. Would be nice if the results were stored somewhere so they could be referenced later but where to put them?

They can be stored right here in the main Piston forum. All we have to do is stickie the prediction thread.

It would be nice to have it as a reference throughout the season.

I agree.
If the predictions draw alot of discussion, then maybe we'll take a look at creating a prediction forum.

I think we can have a subforum just for storing the prediction threads.
We're going to run into sticky overload eventually...
???

That's what i was thinking. That way they won't get lost in the shuffle and they'll be easy to find.

LOL!
I suppose we'll eventually have to make a stlcky sub forum as well.

Thanks for the feedback guys.
I hope to start taking predictions by the 17th.
Wth the deadline being just before the first regular season game.
We'll go through the suggestions and post the format on the 17th.
There's still time for opinions on the format.
Who really knows the league? :first:
