I just wanted to get on this one to start me out for the season. Just a warm up for me, ranking and drafting, get a feel for it before I get in some money leagues.

I strongly suggest you draft 2 solid running backs in your first 3 picks (if not first 2 picks). Draft with HEALTH in mind. It's everything.

Draft your kickers and defense late. (Like after the 8th round, at least). Be careful with guys like Hanson. He's great, but over the years, due to the Lions crappiness, he doesn't get as many points as some average kickers.

Qb's are hard to gauge (but don't waste a top pick on one unless it's P. Manning)

Wide receivers can really help, but usually pick a RB in the first round.

Tight ends (depends on your league settings), but if you have a league where they don't have a specific slot for them, and you can use them as Wr's, there are only a handful worth drafting.

Good luck.

Thanks for some of the advice Tater:thumb:. Shaun Alexander is my favorite player so I have him first.

Most mock drafts have Alexander, LT or LJ going number one overall.

Tater is right, RBs first (or Manning). But I think some WRs might go in the first round as well. Chad Johnson most likely being the top wideout taken.

Currently 5 spots left on a 10 team league. I'd like to have the commish change it to a 12 team league if we can get enough serious players though.

My only advice is to be careful of a 12 team league because sometimes it dilutes the talent too much.

I'd play but Fantasy is so addicting and between PF and our basketball fantasy league, I don't think I could do it.

I dont think fantasy football takes as much time compared to fantasy basketball, you just have to adjust your roster once a week.

Yeah you're right about the 12 team league Roscoe, I was thinking that was the more common but it is 10.

There are a lot more players to watch and a lot more positions as well. I know which b-ball players I should always put in, but in football one guy can do really good one week, but not the next.

My take:

Last year was my first year of Fantasy anything.

Football was fun and pretty easy. Cruise the stats once a week and try to find forgotten gems witout the hype all over them yet.

B-Ball was not much fun at all. I won like 2 weeks, and that was it. There are a lot of stats to keep track of. And I only know basically the big names, because I'm such a homer. And you have to do the line-up for each day. Basketball was way frustrating.

Hockey was a lot like basketball, but I know a lot more players from other teams, and in hockey players can really get streaky. So, you see that somebody scored 3 goals in his last 5 games, pick him up, give it a try. Chances are he'll throw up a few more goals before he cools off. My team went on a hot streak at the end of the season and moved up 4 spots in the last 2 weeks, and I made the consolation bracket of the playoffs.

My official stats:
Basketball 11 of 12
Football 8 of 10
Hockey 8 of 12

Yeah, I'm like the Atlanta Hawks of the Fantasy Sports World. But I never stop doing my line-ups, and I don't quit.

(This %%%%%hole from my Hockey league must have forgot that he had a team, and rode a hot goalie into the playoffs, without ever tweaking his line-ups. That's who I eventually lost to in the 3rd round of the playoffs consolation round)

Well first of all to cure this I would pull your head out of your ass cuz i am not going to get beat by you or anyone else in this league. Second, I am gunning for you specifically so you should just drop out now or start your crying whichever you prefer. You guys do all of the throwing of sticks and stones that you want.

Are we going to have to have league approved trades? Every league I've been in it has either caused problems, or put an andless stream of e-mails into my inbox.

Anyway we could change the draft time to early in the afternoon? Or is it set in stone already?

I think 3 or 4 people should have to reject the trade in order for it to fail. But I'm sure we could vote on this.

Anyway we could change the draft time to early in the afternoon? Or is it set in stone already?

We'll have to come up w/ a reasonable time, probably on the weekend would be the best for most people.

What do you think commish???

JoeDuuuuumars
06-23-2006, 01:45 PM
I dont think it will be a problem switching the draft to earler that same day. I will do that today. But, i think if I change it to league votes I dont think people will vote so every trade will be accepted. This could make it unfair so I am just going to leave it as commissioner approves trades and I will listen to any input yous guys wanna throw my way. Whaddya Think??

06-23-2006, 04:10 PM

If anyone does let me know and I will try to accommodate everyone but it looks like that might be a little difficult.

I have had some mixed comments about the trade approval situation so as of right now I am going to leave that at commissioner and if the majority want it league approved I will change it.

Also, there are 2 open spots left so if anyone knows someone that wants to join let em know. Its going to be a fun and competitive, trash-talking season...Lots of fun. So, lets fill those spots!!

And there should be a "test" for the draft.

I always test it, just to be safe. I don't want to be going into my firewall looking for the wrong site being blocked or something, while the draft is going on.

On draft day, near the right time, there should be a link (on the right side of the screen if I remember correctly) to go to the draft.

What's the status on this Fantasy Football League? I count only six teams. I would join up for a slot if one is still available. I did Fantasy Football last year in a public league, got all the way to last four teams in the playoff round. (LaDainian Tomlinson got stopped bigtime in one of those games:mad: ).

However, the player movement situations utterly confused me. Waivers, trades, trade approval, how to say no to a trade offer...as long as I am assured the commish or someone else can help me with this trade stuff. I don't want to be a deadbeat team owner.

Let me know. If it's all filled up, I'll just do a public league like last year. It would be more fun with you guys, but I realize this is totally the eleventh hour.

I was wondering why you took 4 QBs when you can only have 1 active each week?!?

I figured it must have been auto selections, but I also thought I saw you in the draft so I was a bit confused.

You got some good QB's, but they're just going to rot on the bench.

For your sake, hopefully some starting QB's will get injured and then you'll have some great trade bait.

You'll need the back ups when the real team has a bye. T.E.'s other than the top couple (Gates) aren't that valuable unless your league is set so that you must use one every week. (Our league let you use a wr instead if we chose).

Your most valuable commodity is the rb. You'll need three at least given injuries.

Last year, lots of QB's got hurt, so they were worth more than usual in most leagues. But 4 on your team is too many.

Dump a kicker. You'll only need one except for the bye week.

With all those QB's & kickers you must have shorted yourself somewhere else.

YOU don't have a bye.

But each team in the NFL gets one bye week, hence, your guys, when their team byes, get no stats. So you need to bench the guys on byes and go to your bench players. Otherwise, you will lose potential points for that position for that week.

That's 2 top 15 RB's on my squad that are a huge question mark.

Hey commish: Can you turn the can't cut list off? I know you can do it when you set-up the league, and it is for competeive reasons, but can you do it once the league is already in place? Or will they allow me to cut him if he gets the IR?

I'm already in like 2 leagues so I've got my hands full... Thank the good Lord that Football season has finally returned. I just had to gloat a little bit about FINALLY getting the #1 overall draft spot this season in my pay for league... It was a tough decision between SA, LJ, or LT.... For me it came down to the fact that with Brees gone to NO I wasn't willing to trust that rivers can pick up that offense that quickly so Tomlinson may struggle. Then I'm pretty sure Alexander will get a bunch of TD's as usual, however seattle won't sneak up on anyone and being on the cover of Madden 07 the bullseye is on his back. Therefore I ended up taking Larry Johnson as my overall #1 draft choice, the KC line is always great and he put up huge fantasy football #'s last season once holmes was injured.

Man, I HATE it when one of my fantasy players plays against my favourite team.

Who do I chear for?

This week it was Frank Gore against the Lions. I decided to sit him even though the Lions D sucks and both started DTs are out, just because I couldn't bring myself to hope that he had a good game.

So Gore decided to take advantage of my loyalty and rush for 159 yards and a TD in less than 3 quarters of play.

Wow. My man crush on LT just keeps growing.

They guy is UNSTOPPABLE!

He just scored 4 TDs for the 3rd time in 6 weeks. He has 6 multi TD games this season. He has gone over 100 combo yards (rushing and receiving) all but 1 week this season. He just became the youngest player ever to go over 100 TDs.

Oh, and he also threw for a TD this season.

The guy is amazing.

I had to use Jim Leyland for my 4th victory.
Hire Millen is up next, he don't want none of this:
Brady and 3 of his receivers vs Detroit.
I'm trying to get Cory Dillion.
I'm very weak at RB.

A really funny article on how Fantasy Football is taking over and changing the game itself.

ESPN.com - NFL - Garber: Fantasy craze produces awkward moments for real players (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/story?columnist=garber_greg&id=2684942)

A great quote from Cato June, LB for the Colts on having Tom Brady on his fantasy team:

"Playing New England, I can't be happy with him throwing a TD pass, but in the back of my mind, I'm like, 'Yeah, I just got six points in my fantasy league,'" June says, laughing.

Its a legitimate concern, so what should I do? I definitely dont want everyone's fantasy experience ruined just b/c I am that good.

Looking at his team, you can see he won with all luck.
Why would you draft Gore and keep Vick and two Card recievers?

Luck? Is that what I get for trying to put a positive spin on your last place finish?:hand:

Actually, I didn't draft Gore, I picked him up as a free agent before the very first preseason game. Good thing I did, since he ended up with the 6th highest point total of all RBs. But I guess that was luck. I picked up Marion Barber III for depth around mid season, and he finished with the 11th highest point total. McGahee was a bit of a disappoinment for me, although he missed 2.5 games to injury and still finished at 25. LT was the 3rd overall pick. He had a monster season.

Vick finished with the 5th highest points for a QB, again, I got lucky. I also had Trent Green, but I lost him in the first game of the season.

I had 4 WRs in the top 25. Driver at 5, Furrey at 17 (picked up Oct 1), and the "two Card receivers" finished 20 (Boldin) and 24 (Fitzgerald - who by the way, missed 3 games).

Of my 2 TEs Cooley finished 7th and Watson 11th.

Graham was the 5th best kicker.

I had the 4th (New England) and 10th (Jacksonville) best D's.

Overall, I had the 2nd most points in the league, only 20.82 behind Himat. But unlike Himat and the Pistons of last year, I peaked at the right time. I rode a season high 5 game winning streak all the way to Disneyland baby!

Heck, if that's luck, I'll take it!

If I remember right my puter was on the fritz back then, I couldn't pick up any hot players. I drafted Ron Dayne...he didn't score until the last 3 games of the season. I also drafted TJ Duckett he was good for a 3.25 rating.
