Okay, I'm gonna start it this time: The Pics of the Pacers starting lineup here is an indication that the bench has a far bigger influence on games than Flip will ever admit. Only Foster and AJ are starting at this point for the Pacers. Pollard, JAX, and Peja fill it out with only the possibility of Tins cracking it by February 23rd. Flip should take notes?

Right you are sir. Indy is an example of a platooning team that I was addressing in other threads.

With JO out Indy has one valid NBA starter in Stojakovic and the rest are all bench players. So it really does not matter who plays. RC can simply throw guys in on a hunch and hope for the best.

Jeff Foster has a really big forehead.

Based, of course, on what we all know is Carlisle's superb recognition of sub patterns and minutes played.
He's flying by the seat and it might be interesting to see where they are for this game.

And I'd give anything to see this pic of Pollard as the true Pollard. His two ponytails just don't fit the stereotypical NBA starter.:ohwell:

i always think you'll jinx the pistons by saying they'll win whenever you go there, but they actually always do win when your in attendance.

yes, yes. comes in handy for the playoffs.

i forgot how many they lost at home during the playoffs - they did lose one of the times i didn't go heh. what *was* really painful was watching game 5 of the Finals when ____ hit that ____ to win the game.

With all this trade talk this game snuck up on us...
Revenge game... I'm taking bets on O'Neal backtracking on his statement "uh what I was trying to say was we'll put up a good battle in the first round".
The game faces should be on tomorrow... gotta box out and keep them out of the paint... Sheed needs to do a better job of helping Ben.
Hopefully Sheed gets down on the blocks tonight.

The bench players are always ready to play and they have benefitted from their starters always being hurt. You can always count on JO to get his back up some minutes.

But, ya know...Granger and Harrison could actually start on most teams. Go figure. Larry Bird has put together something here. Freddie Jones? He'd be 6th man in Detroit.

Allright, this is the real start of the 2nd half of the season. We have the Pacers in town tonight and this is the future 2nd round of the playoffs match up. This game has alot of emotion splashed all over it.

With the O'neal comments to the lost suffered earlier this month, this game will have a playoffs atmosphere. The game will start off real fast for one of the teams I don't know if it will be the Pistons or the Pacers, but one team will jump out quick take a lead. After the fast start the game will even out go back and forth until the home team burst in front for good and win this game down the stretch.

Detroit has to watch out for the confidence Indiana displays when they play. Indiana believes in their hearts that they can beat this team at anytime, but unfortunately for them it has not come in money time which is the playoffs. Remember this Pacer team is 6-3 in the regular season over the past couple of years. Tonight the Pistons will win this one down the stretch 91-81. It will be a great game to watch. GO PISTONS!!!!

It just hasn't been the same since the Warrier got traded away. That old time rivalry just isn't the big deal it once was.

Although the return of Shiney-Skis is making it much better. You can always count on Shine for a real gem. Fred Jones for sixth man! Please!

On a serious note, though, the Pacers do have an amazing ability to still be competitve playing a bunch of stock boys from the local farm supply store. Gotta win the board war tonight. I am reallly sick of seeing Jeff Foster outrebound the Pistons front line.

Keys to winning:

1. Rebounds - Definitely should keep the Pacer's offensive rebound at minimal. Ben should get some help from Sheed, Dice and Tay. The 3 of them need to get at least 20 rebounds for the Stones to win most games.

2. Inside Game - Sheed, Dice and Tay should go inside more on the offensive end. If they can get their bigs in foul trouble, the game should be over with 8 minutes left.

I agree Fred Jones is a nice sixth man, he will be a frre agent this summer. Tonight Delfino or Evans needs to do a good job on this cat keep him out the lanes and make him a jump shooter.

I would go after Jones in the offseason, I think he is better than Evans but not Delfino

I know the pacers always shot their fair share of treys, however it sort of seems like rc has biten/mimiced some of Flip's style offensively, trying to open up their usually predictable offense. I mean it indeed does make sense with the pick up of peja, but still rather comical to see how they follow our lead like that. As most of us learned from the debacle we gave away in indy, tonight's game is mostly all about who controls the glass. If we rebound effectively we should defeat our wanna be rivals as usual. I really wish that big mouthed clown german oneal was playing tonight, I get so tired of their ready made excuses for everything.

By the way WHY is Mo Evans' defense so SORRY, it's to the point that opponents look to exploit him immediately when he hits the court.... Mo's got to step it up defensively like Delfino CLEARLY has, he's getting the minutes and we need that production and reliability out of him. If not CD seems more than up to the task in my book, pretty much a better all around player anyway actually. Now I'm not going crazy like that guy from flint some of you all know, but just keeping it real folks... Mo's defense SUCKS!

pistons are up 75-64 with 8:49 left in the 4th as I write.

and i just gotta say that after all our griping about flip's chicken %%%% rotations (and though this hasn't been the prettiest game), i think he's really gotten it right tonight. he's given dyess and delfino decent burn, given lindsay a chance to work out some kinks (even though lindsay made lots of mistakes on offense), and even thrown davis and evans in a little bit in the first half. and he did this even though the pacers were hanging close and even closing the gap to as close as 4 with the bench in at times.

flips growing some huevos maybe...

okay and now i have to issue a caveat to my own praise: the pistons are now up 20 with 5:47 to go and all five starters are in. it ain't that big a deal tonight because they've gotten breaks earlier in the game, but with a back to back tomorrow night, he can pull them and let 'em rest and get the other guys some more time. i'll give him until the 4 minute mark.

It was a good game for the Pistons.....

Saw some good things too:

1. Flip gave good burn to Delfino, which a lot of us will be happy out. Evans played a bit but Jackson was abusing him. Delfino looked pretty good on that baseline dunk again and played great defense. He's pretty good at keeping his man in front him.

2. Flip gave great time for Dice too as he heated up with his jumpers and fadeaways as well. Made great moves cutting to the basket but he should be ready for those passes inside from Chauncey. He miffed one. Guess he misses Arroyo.

3. Up 20 late in the fourth, and win by just 5 points??? C'mon garbage time players....

4. Sheed got crazy after that tech. Which makes it how many? But with that being said, I'm wishing the league changes the suspension rule if he goes off like that everytime.

5. Blocks blocks blocks. Great ones too. And you gotta love Ben ripping the ball away from Harrison, if I'm not mistaken, in the fourth.

6. Hunter is way out of timing in the offense. I say give Acker his shot. He looked pretty good bringing the ball up in garbage time though he had some turnovers. But he looked good. I think he will do well with more time on the court.

7. Even Dale Davis played some minutes. Which is an improvement in itself.

8. Another PISTON WIN!

Let's GO DETROIT!!!!

I just don't get it. Up by 20, and the starters have pretty much left it all on the floor. Pretty much have done exactly what you want them to. What could have gone on in that timeout?

"Great job guys, but I think you can get it going again and beat them by 30. Come on, let's show these bench guys how it's done. Get back in there!"

So, they go back in, look blabbergasted to be back in, and get run out of the gym by the Pacers' second string. Good thing the Pacers' scrubs weren't headhunting or we could have had a sprained knee or back to go along with our single digit win.

Somebody help me... What possible rationale is there to put those guys back in the game?

I liked CB's aggressiveness early, getting in the paint and dishing - though also missing some close shots.

Not sure what's going on with TP. Making Peja look like Ben Wallace and letting him swat two in a row back in your face is just embarrassing.

What's wrong with Dice's hand? I noticed the bandage last game. He seems to be favoring it some. Some vacation accident?

If he had taken them out when i wrote my last message (with 5:47 left) they would have all played around 30 minutes (tay around 34).

If he had taken them out even during that last time out (2:10 left), they would have been in around 33 -34 minutes (again, except tay).

so that was certainly weird and uncalled for.

however, and apart from those last 5 minutes, i'd say this substitution pattern was a step in the right direction for flippy.

i can't quite put my finger on it, but overall i liked this victory. indiana is still a gritty defensive team, with real active hands, and physical on the boards. though the gap was on kind of a yoyo string (4-12 pts, until the final sheed-led run), i never felt this was going to be a loss. it's good to beat teams that play ugly -- that's a hopeful sign to me.

i also liked that as soon as lindsay stepped on the floor everybody bodied up, trapped, denied passing lanes, rotated aggressively. (i know i know, his lob was ugly, in fact most of his offense was ugly, but i think he deserves a half dozen games or so at 10 minutes a game before we can definitively say that he hurts our offense more than he helps our defense).

I hate to admit that, but JO said something very true after the game

You can say what you want about this game, we had enough players to win -- there are no excuses," he said. "But I feel like when we get myself back, and Austin Croshere back and Jamaal Tinsley back, we're going to be right there.
"Take Rasheed and Chauncey Billups out and tell me what they (Pistons) got? That's just the way it is. Those are the facts."

I hate to admit that, but JO said something very true after the game

no way! i'll give jo himself, but austin croshere, jamal tinsley? that's what he's claiming is going to put them over the top against the pistons?

and take away sheed and chauncey and what have we got: uh...rip hamilton? ben wallace? antonio mcdyess? even tay... and, most of all, team chemistry...

sorry i think he's out of his mind if he really believes that. if he doesn't really believe it, but is just sayin' it to keep his team up, then that's fine. but it's flat out untrue

I like how JO says he isn't making any excuses and then proceeds to do so . Of course he's right, I mean its common sense ANY SPORTS TEAM IN THE HISTORY OF MANKIND is worse without its best players.

Well, except the Pacers because they are playing better without JO than with him, oops .

And yeah the last minute lack of subbing is weird. You could tell the guys just didn't care after that because Indy scored on every possession and had like 2 or 3 more 3's. If the bench came in we'd have won by 10 at least, guaranteed.

Lindsay is a defensive specialist at this point in his career, I love the guy but he isn't a backup point and really, really sucks at it.

David Harrison suspended one game for swearing at fans. This one was obvious in the late game, he did it right after getting T'd up, live and on camera.
