Henry Abbott at Truehoop (a great blog that LanierFan introduced me to last season) has been trying to figure out just who the heck William Wesley is and what he does.

Today's piece is very, very interesting if you like conspiracy and business.

Oh, and this is of particular interest to Pistons fans because William Wesley and Rip are tight like family. Super interesting reading.

Boost Mobile
Henry (1:18:42 PM): Oh, gotcha. Speaking of cell phones, you know about that Boost mobile deal, right? You were there for the taping?
Michael (1:19:47 PM): yeah the first day
Henry (1:20:10 PM): Can you tell the story of how that came to be?
Michael (1:20:22 PM): what part?
Henry (1:21:11 PM): Well, I like anecdotes, so your day on the set interests me. But also, Wes's role in arranging Rip's sponsorship.
Michael (1:21:38 PM): rip has been looking for a "sponsor" ....
Michael (1:22:28 PM): boost mobile is trying to appeal to all races...etc they want to be "everyone's" cell phone co.
Michael (1:23:10 PM): well they felt RIP was a positive role model with his involvement in youth and there was no way they could afford LBJ
Michael (1:23:44 PM): or any other "super name" because they are realitivly new company
Michael (1:24:08 PM): so the pitch was right and wes had the connection
Michael (1:24:22 PM): wes had a connection with skytel if you could remember them.
Michael (1:24:31 PM): i dont know if they are still around or not
Michael (1:24:52 PM): they were the first with the pagers that displayed text
Henry (1:25:09 PM): I remember.
Michael (1:25:52 PM): anyways this is my undertanding of the deal
Henry (1:26:31 PM): I'm trying to look up the name of the buy at Boost mobile.
Henry (1:26:43 PM): I saw photos of them from All-Star.
Henry (1:26:52 PM): Big party with Rip and some others.
Michael (1:27:06 PM): yeah i wasnt there
Henry (1:27:15 PM): I assume when I see Rip or LBJ at a big corporate function, Wes is involved somehow.
Michael (1:27:29 PM): wes or leon or both

Sounds like a relative of Captain Tuttle, that famed Korean War surgeon.

Really interesting chat with Leandro Barbosa's interpreter from before he was drafted.

A look into the world of Uncle Wes, a man who has been tied to Rip Hamilton and is best known for constantly being around Lebron James.

True Hoop: Gregory Dole: My Summer with William Wesley (http://www.truehoop.com/who-is-william-wesley-70225-gregory-dole-my-summer-with-william-wesley.html)

The sphere of influence that Leon Rose, William Wesley, Jay-Z, Michael Jordan etc. move in, we cannot begin to understand. Nike is the true force behind what happens in AAU ball, all the way through to the NBA.

That *M*A*S*H* episode spawned our very own Unko Dabunkalogo, lol. Classic stuff.

Very interesting article from GQ on Uncle Wes, one of the true power brokers in the game. You've probably seen him on TV around the players, but never realized it was the same guy in so many cities.

IS THIS THE MOST POWERFUL MAN IN SPORTS?: GQ Features on men.style.com (http://men.style.com/gq/features/full?id=content_5735)

And Henry @ TrueHoop has an interview with the article author.

Talking to Alex French, Fresh off the William Wesley Beat for GQ (http://myespn.go.com/blogs/truehoop/0-25-95/Talking-to-Alex-French--Fresh-off-the-William-Wesley-Beat-for-GQ.html)

IMO, if you're a hardcore hoops fan, this is must read stuff.

My vote is still that it's all a hoax and there is no William Wesley.
