TheeTFD, Pistonsforum's intepid Tornado Fighter was killed earlier today by a defective missile that was supposed to take out an oncoming tornado. Police suspect foul play.
"C'mon. This was TheeTFD you're talking about here...the list of suspects looks like the sign up sheet for american idol," commented one officer. "besides, the letter 'L' was found at the scene."
"I bet the mob will cry vengence for this atrocity...might as well get out the rope."
Since the list of suspects is so long, it will be split in two. vote in only one.

TheeTFD has been murdered! This is a continuation of the list of suspects. Please vote for only one. Thanks

Lemme see. 21 people. Minus TFD, Slippy and yours trule. That's 18 suspects and two are guilty.I've got a 9 in 1 chance to hang the right culprit.
Chief inspector Darth Clouseau is on the case.I weel soon deescoveer how thees baum keeled zee monsieur TFD.

Slippy,
Not many people are around due to the holiday, I guess. Should you increase the hanging poll time another 12-24 hours perhaps?
OK, anyone find anything suspicious? We need to hang someone by midnight tonight.
I had a quick stroll through the posts and found a few candidates...
firstly i am making an assumption that slippy would make the first murderers regulars to make sure it got off the ground. so bearing that in mind here are my suspects.
Jammer - used 'physical' (pistons word) and league in the same post, as well as Larry and coaching. (bit of a stretch)
detteam - used Corliss, Wallace and Lindsey with some basketball words
Darth - used Laimbeer with league
Dlev - used Delfino and Flip.
a few others used some players names but by using my regulars theory they got off the hook. this time...
Ok, so I am off the hook.................................:bolt:
Nope!
So I'm not sure of my vote yet, but thats my detective work for this round. You 4 beware, I will be pulling one of your names out of my hat soon!
And of course it wasn't me, I was too busy mourning another fellow aussie. RIP Steve!

Dlev has a lot of posts over the last few days with the letter "L". He uses "Flip" quite often and "L" in some more generic basketball contexts. Check out his posts over the last 3 days. Suspicious?
I don't think Roscoe should hang for this. My eye is drawn toward dlev, although I have more research to do.

Yeah I know, but Flip is a very short word and probably not likely for the purpose of this game. I tossed up between those two guys, however your Laimbeer post was eye-catching.
I ended up going with jammer, he had a few posts in the non-basketball areas that could be regarded as sneaky, but its impossible to tell so early.

Hey, I'm cool with it as long as I don't get the most votes! I want to stick around and keep playing! :P
I think I'm going to go with dlev as well. I agree that I think the killer would be someone that played the first game, to help smooth the transition. But choosing a staff member would be too obvious. Dlev flew under the radar in the first game and would be a good choice this time around.
Of course I have absolutely zero proof of it, so I'm going to wait to vote until I can look at some evidence.

Ok, we have to vote within two hours unless Slippy changed the deadline due to holiday. So I will share what I've found out in my investigation of the brutal murder of TheeTFD.
Exhaustive Evidentiary Results
Ruled out unequivocably IMO: MotownPride, WebZ, Tayshaunofthedead, Maverick, Hack, The Low, Majestic, Lurker. You guys are free to go. Thanks for coming in for questioning.
(Now we can hang any of these if we want to and we get enough poll votes, but I don't think any of them are the killer. THIS TIME let's try to get the perp the first time out, instead of hanging.....me! :ohwell: )
Here are the posts with keywords that might be the murder post. Now I used a very wide definition of keywords. I will bold the words that I feel are better bets. Don't know whether to include proper names or words that aren't specifically basketball words. So it's a broad parameter.

So I hope this list of murder post clues helps us decide who to hang. It would be a good thing to go read the post to see if it seems kinda fishy. It's not too hard to use basketball words on a Pistons forum, eh! Truly, I have no idea. All of these posts seem to be in the normal flow of posting on this forum. I have no idea who the murderer is, but I hope my research will help those of us who still haven't voted yet to choose.
I don't think it's me or Darth. We are Chief Detectives working for justice. This time around I may just make a vote based on what my gut is telling me. Evidence isn't very conclusive.

Hmmm. Well, I've narrowed it down to three suspects and the possible incriminating posts.

4. Brad Miller/3 pt shooting/Coach K/defense

The evidence is really really sketchy. And I'm going with detteam. I'm very tempted to jump on the dlev bandwagon, because he played in the first game and I agree that Slippy would choose a more experienced murder gamer. However, those two posts are just not incriminating enough to me. So...detteam, forgive me if I know not what I do.

"TheeTFD was a decent %%%%ing guy!" someone cried out. "Who the %%%% will save our homes when the next %%%%ing tornado drop down?" cried another. The groups safety would be bought with blood and Dlev was selected to pay the price.
"I'm %%%%ing innocent you %%%%s!"
"Hang him!!! Hang the %%%%er!!!"
The trapdoor opened and justice was done. Two deaths and the hope that the gossamer thread that linked the accused to the victim was the right one. There was only one sure thing. At least one other killer was out there.
Someone had to go first they all agreed. Silently, they gave thanks that it wasn't them. They were alive to play the game...for now.

Ok, so whether or not Dlev was guilty, at LEAST one murderer remains. (No offense Aurora, but I'm using murderer rather than murderer/murderess for simplicities sake...besides, I don't think Slippy chose you).
I'm assuming here that even if Dlev was innocent, we will see the 2nd person act this time. Therefore, a totally innocent person on the list of suspects for TFD's death could be the killer this time around. However, perhaps the person was on the last list anyhow. I'm pretty much referring to Aurora's research list. I think that's a good one to use.
So, I'm wondering. Do the two murderers know who the other one is? I would guess they do, but it could be done without them knowing. For example, they both could do murder posts and Slippy could tell one that his murder post is void. Again, I am guessing they do know each other and are working together (in harmony?).
So we could be dealing with different personalities and perspectives and those surviving into the later rounds need to remember this.
ok, so we have 19 left. Subtract Slippy. That's 18.
I doubt Slippy used a moderator again. Subtract Roscoe, Low, and maybe Motown (not sure on this guy though, lol).
15 remain. I really doubt it's Aurora and I know it's not me (but you don't know that), so my list is down to 13. After the next murder, if I'm not the victim I'll have 12 people to choose from.
Those people are Prof, Bezeach, Jammer,, Linwood, Tayshawn, Webz, Majestic, Lurker, Detteam, Dumars, Wart, Maverick, and hack. So that's 13 and after the murder we will be left with a dirty dozen. (I'll be on your list if I'm alive, but if you are innocent you'll subtract your own name of course).
We can conceivably solve the case after only one more murder meaning the minimal number of people died. (With 2 murderers at least 2 innocents must die each game).

yes my understanding was a PISTONS-related word containing an L HAD to be one of the 3 keywords in the post. aurora may have just posted a lot of smokescreen to help confuse everyone and divert attention away from being the killer... :ninja:
or not.
Slippy
09-06-2006, 02:27 PM
the pistons keyword containing the L is one of three words that could possibly turn up. With 2 of the three words always being used, you are going to look for patterns. Patterns will not show up after 1 post.
aurora

OMG, this is how I got hung the last time around! The only gamer to provide excruciatingly exhaustive unbiased evidence (I even included myself and Darth) that anyone playing could use to save their skin and find the murderer, and this is the thanks I get! :frusty:
Rules Issues:
1) webz, the killer only has to use 2 of 3 keywords in the murder post.
The killer has 3 keywords (2 bball related, 1 Pistons related). Only two are required in the post. That means that maybe one is a Pistons keyword and maybe not. Maybe just two basketball words.
2) TheeTFD is right that the Pistons keyword must have the clue letter in it. (In the most recent case, the letter L). However, remember I said that I was using very broad parameters so as not to miss any incriminating evidence. That means that all Pistons words are also basketball words, just like all names of players, teams etc. are also basketball words. That's just how I did it. Maybe not necessary.:noidea:
3)I have no idea whether Slippy views all these words I listed as basketball words. I don't have a ruling on that subject. Frankly, if ball and team and draft are basketball words, as well as the names of any player, coach, owner etc, then it's a nightmare. If for instance Jammer is the killer by using the words roster and starter in a murder post, then....you guys should be really really glad that there is someone who is willing to go through everyone of these posts with a fine-toothed comb and just present you with the results.:mmph:
TheeTFD, if you want to throw out all Pistons words without an L, do so.However, you might be throwing out a basketball word. Is Laimbeer a Pistons word or a basketball word? :( If anyone wants to throw out any of the words or the evidence, do so.
After all we are a lynch mob. Who needs evidence, right?
Or better yet, someone make Slippy get more specific about the words. Is uniform a basketball word? I say no, but :yield: Everyone just has to go with their gut I guess. Like they say in AA, take what you want and leave the rest.
webZ, you aren't the first to speculate that my evidence gathering and team player ethos is a way to hide my murderous ways. :lame: It has nothing to do with being a killer. I'm a trial attorney's daughter and I just can't help myself. Must pursue evidence, must develop argument, must win case.
P.S. I'm pretty sure we did not get the killer last time and that Dlev was innocent. No solid evidence. :sorry: Dlev.

Laimbeer would be a pistons word and not a basketball word. We're trying to balance the game out.
uniform would be considered a basketball word.

The worst thing we can do is hang Aurora. She's working hard to solve this and is very involved. Every instinct tells me a guilty person would not waste so much time doing research even if they badly wanted to avoid the noose.
If we don't have much evidence this round I propose we don't do the murderers job for them by eliminating our strongest resources. Aurora and a couple others are putting their own necks out there with the murderers. If they survive them somehow (barking up the wrong trees?) why would we hang our best chances of reaching justice.
My proposal is this:
If we don't have at least decent evidence let's think about hanging a person who isn't helping us solve the crime. First of all, they aren't very involved so they probably won't care very much, and second we eliminate another suspect without killing a good detective. Yes, it increases the chances of killing an innocent, but it buys us time to get the murderer(s).
However, there is a caveat to all of this. I'll keep it to myself just in case the murderer is not as sharp as I suspect.
Sorry Aurora, my bad.
Thats what they get for changing the rules.
I presented some evidence to, but i guess it was not as exhaustive and not following the entire guidelines. :P

once the season starts i'll actually post in the basketball forums (i hope) and thus be a possible suspect, and thus actually participate more, though i try now.

I agree with you Darth. Aurora was already falsely killed once. Setting a smoke screen is one thing, but Aurora went well above and beyond that IMO.
I also agree that only 1 of the 2 would be staff members. Too obvious otherwise.

Interesting. Spare the loudmouths and kill the quiet. This seems counter intuitive to me.
I have a theory that the killers are Darth and Aurora.
I present
1. Their tag team quilt denial: "Oh, couldn't be kim, she works so hard to find clues, and of course, it's not me"
2. Their large number of posts. Those of us who do not post so compulsively would have a much harder time hiding. This is of course counter to the theory of murderous Darth, i.e. kill the quiet and thin the herd.
3. Both Darth and Aurora understand the rules. Those most familiar with the law are lawyers and criminals. Tater is both, and Kim is guilty by association. (see above: "my father was a trial lawyer.")

LMAO @ Linwood and Tayshaun. Great stuff guys. :pound:
You won't even need to bother with the hanging if my wife reads those posts. She'll do the dirty work for you. :swear2::ouch:
I still think if we are going to solve this we need to work together. And those that aren't working are the most expendable. If we don't have an inkling on who did it, why hang a good detective?
Why Linwood do YOU want the investigators hung?????????????:stirthepot: Why do you also want to keep the quiet ones around?????????:stirthepot:
My sleuth eye has turned toward you. You are obviously a drowning man grasping at straws. :help2:
You'll hang for your sins. :pirates: We are coming for you.
