View Full Version : Maverick Murdered!

The lone poster known simply as Maverick was found dead amoung a huge stash of largely unposted musings about the detroit pistons.
"I never guess he had intended to write so much about the team," said one witness, "line-ups, predictions, debates about flip and delfino...the forum lost a great talent. Oh well, when's Darko's next game."
"Someone must pay for this," cried a mob member, "I don't care if this serves as an example to all the lurkers in the game...just waiting silently for the killer to show themselves...justice must be done!"
Authorities are stumped as to who had cause to kill such a solitary figure. "I'm narrowing it down to Goose, Iceman, Joker and the surviving members of the murder game. and by the way, the killer left behind the letter E.

I *think* the words are either basketball or dribble.

According to my very shaky understanding of this game, the murder letters L and E have been left behind after each killing, so they are contained somewhere in the three murder words (two generic basketball words, one Pistons-related word), two of which must appear in a single post in order to kill someone. However, the L and E might belong to different murder words, and they might even have been wielded by different murderers, given that the game started with two killers. And this is all of the evidence we have so far, except that we also know that neither of the murder victims was a murderer, and that, given that Dlev has been executed by a lynch mob, either one or two of the murderers is still on the loose.
Is this right?

Not exactly right, but very close.
The "V" and "A" must be in the Piston related keyword ONLY. So if there were three words like "rim", "hoop" and "Davidson"...the only one that needs the "V" and "A" is "Davidson" because that is the Pistons related word.
Yes, both murderers can use any combination of these words (minimum of two in a murder post).
Everything else you said was also correct.
Hope this helps. Ask for further clarification if not.

Thanks. I'll try it again, with my update in blue...
The murder letters L and E have been left behind after each killing, so both are part of the Pistons-related murder word, which must appear in a single post that also contains at least one of two generic basketball words, in order to kill someone. Yes...as long as you realize that theoretically, if the murderers choose...they never ever have to use the Pistons related word. They can both keep using the remaining two non related words...but must always leave a letter from the pistons related word as a clue. So even though nobody used "Davidson" in a post, they have to use the letters from it. It's up to us to figure that out.
We should all beat the living &^%&$&% outta Slippy. :pirates:

Kinda like this.
killers are Mugsy and Bogus.
OK, so the generics keywords are "hoops" and "rim"
the pistons related word is "Davidson"
So Mugsy kills Ethel . He used "hoops" & "rim" in his post to kill her. He leaves a "D" (from Davidson...even though he didnt use the word "Davidson". An innocent (James) is hung.
Next round...
Mugsy kills again. He kills Brad. He again uses "hoops" & "rim". He leaves an "I" (again from the word "Davidson"). An innocent Jesse hangs.
Next round Bogus kills. He uses "Davidson" and "rim". He leaves the Letter "V" (from "Davidson"...the piston keyword)...he is caught and hung
Mugsy is still around to kill. He can continue to use any 2 of the 3 words he wants at any time just as he did before.

Well, I've studied the rules a few times,:burp: and still don't know what's going on. :whoosh2: This game is pretty hard. :gaah: Looks like it's back to mob justice for me. Hopefully, the participants of this game will attack the true murderers just as hard as the RIM attacked Darko. Otherwise, we may never solve this mystery.
Oh yeah, who was Maverick? Maverick, we hardly knew thee.

darth is the one making it confusing!!
Darths version:
murder = f(CW1,CW2,CW3 + dimCW3^L) - (IMW + sumCW1,CW2)/CW3 * [P (n - 1) - (n -1h)P]
SLippy's version
People die, you hang someone you think did it. More people die.
Everyone is a suspect. Except me.

murder is a function of the three clue words (CWn)and an array of clue letters (L) from the third clue word (CW3) where the pistons word is word 3. The immunity word (IMW) is from the list of basketball words just like the clue words and become more apparent as the list of participants (P) get smaller and smaller (due to hanging).

I'm thinking its Tater, his obvious affection for jumping in and explaining things is a great deflection technique. That along with the fact that he is one of the few with a mastery of the rules. I vote for French Fries at midnight. Make em' curly please!

Now now...let's not jump to conclusions. What evidence do you have?
Yes, I understand the rules, but I'm only sharing what I know to help people find the REAL killer. If I was the real killer, I would want confusion and chaos. I understand the rules because Slippy was running stuff by me as he developed them and as he insightfully pointed out to me "Darth, you understand them because you understand the reasoning behind them". Others didn't have that luxury.
Voting to kill me will only silence a detective. I'm innocent.
I dunno why Low voted to hang me. Get backs for exposing his evil plot last game, perhaps?

Here is my theory, although I'm not casting my vote just yet:
Aahhhh haaaaaaaaaa! (points finger at suspect). I've found the murderer.
Nice try LINWOOD! (shocked gasps and loud music eminates from the background...DUN DUN DUNNN).
Did you really think you could get away with this you fiend?
Evidence:
(1) Linwood mysteriously returns from his "vacation" 5 minutes after Dlev is hung,.. and states..."Oh, I was going to vote to hang Darth, but I'm late...darn"
(2) Linwood tries to frame two people dilligently working late at night on the case (Aurora and yours truly). He accuses them of murder AND hanky panky!!!!
(3) Enlists the help of an innocent(?) impressionable young lad (Tayshaun) who happens to be an offspring of a forumite to help him achieve his diabolical unspeakable goals. (Trying to portray a modern day twisted version of batman and robin from hells gates).
(4) Acts like he wants the quiet people alive WHEN IN FACT, he, the murderer wants them DEAD! He wants the quiet ones dead because when they are alive his murderous deceitful posts stand out like sore thumbs.
Killing Maverick is supposed to make Linwood look innocent. Oh the Shame! The scandal!! The treachery!!!
(5) Calls for the hanging of Darth & Aurora at 7:58 pm Wednesday in the "Murder 2 thread" in post #71.
(6) Murder post goes up only 19 minutes later. (8:07 pm) Wednesday. The murder post which was in the "Training camp" thread. Post #9.
Linwood uses a Piston word with the clue letters "L" and "E" in them... "Delfino" or "Maxiel" (either works...take your pick). He also uses a basketball keyword "fouling".
Linwood it is time to pay for your crimes. You will not weasel out of this one. But perhaps there can still be redemption for your wicked, cruel, twisted soul.

Now that a proper lynch mob has coalesced around Mr. Tater, it's time to get down to business.
I'm voting for Darth not because, as some have suggested, he is mean to Slippy, or because he may have dispatched poor Maverick (a crime that I can't get too worked up about), but because of a far more heinous offense: by understanding the rules and by being patient enough to explain them to those who don't, he is making people feel stupid. If that's not grounds for a quick execution, I don't know what is.
Hanging is too good for someone so devious. I say we strap him in and flip the switch.

He used the word foul in both posts. The Pistons word could be Delfino or Maxiell, which each have an E and an L.
Linwood killed one of the victims and maybe both. I'm thinking both.
All of this sound and fury about me and Darth is just "the best defense is a good offense" type strategy. Why target the detectives for hanging unless you are worried where their investigation is leading?
To those who haven't voted yet: There is no evidence against Darth Tater. No one has presented any evidence AT ALL. The gamers voting for hanging him are just doing it for fun. That might be a good enough reason for them, but what about you? Don't you want some proof?

To me it seemed like team USA had no answer for the number 5, Sotksosskseiplkalipsalisalk. That guy had a great game, and handed out fouls like he was working the register at the No Free Chili line.
I agree with the team vs. player theory proposed here, but am also concerned that the "best basketball players in the world" couldn't overcome their short time together. Wade, James, Anthony, and Howard are some of the best atheletes the NBA has seen. If they can't get together and learn the game in time, is there any hope for a Dream Team?

This is crap. DT is going to walk, and linwood is going to fry.
I know for a FACT linwood did not do it, mostly because he is too simple minded and burnt out from the 70s to harm anyone, anywhere, at any time.
I mean, c'mon folks. You know linwood. He couldn't get his act together to ACCIDENTALLY kill someone. This guy can barely keep up in game chat for the love of pete.
We need some swing votes in here to fry the Tater! Darth Tater wears a black cape for crissakes. What more evidence do you need?
LMAO. I'm sure he appreciates your support.
Maybe he has a BRILLIANT partner in crime. Namely...ROSCOE36
Roscoe, I didn't check you out at all. I just assumed Slippy wouldn't make you the murderer. You and Linwood. Interesting how quickly you voted for me because "I was mean to slippy". I think we may be close to solving this. I'm thinking Dlev's hanging was a mistake.

Oh great. I've got the Mod Squad...errrr Mod Mob after me. Notice that Roscoe, Motown, and Low all want me dead?
No hard evidence. NOTHING. Their reasoning:
Motown is hungry
Roscoe says I was mean to slippy
Low says nothing.
Come on. Three voters left.
Majestic, Jammer, and Bezeach.
Come on guys, I didn't do it. There is a lot of evidence against Linwood. Let's use some jurisprudence here. The common starting point in understanding jurisprudence is the objective of law to achieve justice.
It's been like this:
Mod Mob guy 1: There is no evidence against Darth. But lots against Linwood.
Mod Mob guy 2: Yeah, it must be Darth. It's my gut feeling.
Mod Mob 3: Case closed. Let's hang Darth.
To the remaining three people... Please use the facts to vote. These guys are making a mockery of this process. If I have to hang as an innocent, I can accept that. But at least find some evidence other than my willingness to help explain the rules to my accuser.

More circumstantial evidence against Darth:
Look at the poll.
My line showing guilt is red (Like Darth's lightsabre)
Linwoods line showing guilt is Blue (like Luke skywalkers lightsabre)
I must be evil. Slippy, can I change my vote? I must be guilty.

I haven't had much time to investigate this round, but I'm voting for Linwood. To me, his pleading ignorance to using "foul" then having KMW call him on it only to have Linwood plead more ignorance was just too suspicious for me to overlook.
The "evidence" against Darth has been non existant, yet he was tied for the most votes. Hmm... looks like some people want him silenced pretty bad.

I know why you want me dead Senator Roscoe. One more vote against him and your treacherous scheme is foiled. Ruling the forum isn't enough for you. Now you want all of us dead so you can rule the entire internet.
I dare you to show your true face:icon_evil: and change your avatar to the senator until the mystery is solved. (I.E. until you and Linwood are hanging by your:wedgie: from a noose).

Show me some evidence against Darth and I'll consider it, but not a single person who voted for him had a shred of evidence to support their decision.
Aurora called Linwood on his bluff and he folded. To me, that's more incrimminating than killing Darth so we can all eat him.

A line was drawn and astride it stood the Professor....iconoclastic, aloof and impartial. But he was the only one. A sharp division clove the rest. On one side was the Darth backers who supported HARD evidence and harder punishment. On the other was the Linwood Preservation League who were bankrolled by the ketchup industry.
a frier had been substituted for the gallows and a nickel held the fate of these two jokers in its 5 cent sway. Heads for the Darthians. Tails for the linwoodians. Already the linwoodians had condiments at the ready.
But it fell tails. A sigh came from the Darth side...except for Darth who whooooped and huzzahed like an utter mad tater. Linwood was marched up to the sizzling oil. :flame:
And it was over. Maverick had been avenged.

But justice was done (I think) and innocent Tater wasn't, and hopefully both murderers are now dead and we can start a new round. If not, I would think we have at least one dead murderer and a good idea of who the other one is.

I'm probably safer than anyone else here right now. People want to hang me for the fun of it. No evidence necessary. The killer likes that. Keeps the focus off of him and keeps him alive while an innocent hangs.

Slippy, can the murderer use someone elses quote in the grey quote box in his own post and count that as him using the "keywords"? Or must they be his own words originating during the proper time period?

09-11-2006, 08:02 PM
Yes, let's pin it on me before there is even a killing.
Yes, I strongly believe there will be a killing. What are the odds we got both killers correct?
I think we possibly missed on Dlev, but he did look suspicious. There was minimal evidence left by the killer and somebody had to hang. We all voted for someone...right or wrong.
Micro has been happily forming mobs to hang me. I'd be hanged if not for a lucky coin bounce. I think he did at least one of the past two. Why is it that despite all the evidence he left, many believe he is innocent?
Personally, it does surprise me that slippy would choose him as the murderer, but slippy is slippery as Jammer said.
If I were the killer I'd kill Micro in a heartbeat after he led the mob against me last round. (Although this would cast great suspicion on me). So I think it's Micro and I think he won't kill me because then everyone knows it's him. He knows there is a great chance I'll hang this round.
That's ok. My mouth is going to keep yapping theories until it is shut by murder or hanging. Hang me and you can stop me from posting on this thread. I've been verbal and I know that the people who participate most draw the most suspicion upon themselves. That's cool. It's part of the game and I'm having fun, and I'll continue to have fun watching you guys figure it out.
However, if there is a murder this round and I believe there will be, the murders will continue for at least one more round because I didn't do it.

Bottom line, if there is a murder, you cannot trust Darth Tater because his theories on who commits the murders are hit and miss. Pure speculation!
