UNIONDALE, N.Y. (AP) - Rick DiPietro (http://msn.foxsports.com/nhl/player/66619) re-signed with the New York Islanders (http://msn.foxsports.com/nhl/team/66311) on Tuesday, agreeing to a record 15-year deal that will pay the No. 1 goalie $67.5 million.

The Islanders (http://msn.foxsports.com/nhl/team/66311) scheduled an afternoon news conference to officially announce the contract that would keep DiPietro in the fold until 2022, when he would be 40.

This is just silly. His deal is guaranteed if he retires because of injury. This is hockey, where injuries happen all of the time, plus goalies seem to get injured more often.

Not that the Islanders always make the most intelligent moves.

You'd think they'd have learned from the Yashin deal. I guess that's what you get when you make your backup goalie the GM.

That's a huge contract. I've never heard of anything over an 8 year contract, let alone 15!

The guy will be 40 years old when it is over.

40 years old?

How many hockey players actually play until they're 40?

Even a 10 year deal would have been a long time.

But 15?

Zeesh.
