Because I am living down here in SC in the middle of ACC territory and nobody knows Big Ten trivia, I sometimes humor my students by asking them a trivia question: How many teams are in the Big Ten? To which they don't want to appear stupid, so they normally will say 10. When I proceed to tell them the correct answer is 11, we are all struck with how stupid can that be? So how would you rename the Big Ten? Here is what I think needs to be done to solve the problem so we Big Ten lovers all don't look like idiots. Since Big implies really awesome and there is only one awesome team, OSU, I propose that we drop the 0 and rename the Big Ten the Big One. That way the name will be intellectually honest. :pound:

Another intellectually honest name would be The Big Ten Disappointments.

It has not been that long ago that when Michigan and OSU were the only real powerhouses, some people called it the Big 2 and the Little 8.

I actually thought at one time that when they took Penn State in they would drop Northwestern because they hardly ever were even close to being competitive, but then they had a couple of years when they were, even won the conference that year and went to the Rose Bowl. I think OSU might have won the co-championship but Northwestern went to the Rose Bowl because OSU had been there more recently.

Maybe they could bring in Notre Dame and have another Big 12. I had been thinking they would bring in ND before they got Penn State because of the proximity but they didn't. Penn State is way out in the sticks, too, and hard to get to by air.

Notre Dame seems like a perfect fit.

How about the Double1, or the Big 11, or OSU and the Pretenders. :stirthepot: Now that was just mean, and when Michigan spoils their bid for the national championship, I will have given them the incentive :sorry: .

Oh, the solution is so simple that I am shocked nobody has mentioned it.

Keep the name "The Big Ten"

Kick out U of M and send them to the MAC where they belong.

11-1=10.

That leaves ten teams. Even Super can figure that out.

Nuff said.

Ok Roscoe, if anybody didn't know that you don't follow Big Ten football, they do now. You could only think of 5 teams!:pound:

Am I missing something or do you guys at OSU learn to count in a different way? I'm seeing three teams (OSU, MSU, and Wisconsin).

Right now the conference should be called: "Tressel's Team and Everyone Else." Hate to say it, but OSU is head and shoulders above everyone else. Tressel is the best college football coach in America right now. Well, that's debatable, but he's certainly in the top 5.

Lemme guess the other 5:

Honestly, I think he's a good coach. The program has been respectable since he's been there and last year except for a couple of bad breaks (his kicker and assistant coaches), they could have had a banner year.

I was only kidding about the top 5. I was just messin' with Buckeye over his bad count the other day.

Once John L. recruits defense, he'll get more respect. Offensively, the guy knows far more than Lloyd and his staff.

They could call it "THE BIG NINE plus that place where that guy who got cut by the Lions went and that place where that Maurice Clarett moron went."

I know it's a little long, but I like it.
