View Full Version : Who Micro'd Roscoe36?

The forumite known by the entire board as Roscoe36 was found in a gruesome Microwave murder. Police have little clues as to who had a motive to attack the esteemed administrator since anyone with probable cause was already banned from the site.
"Probably just a bunch of kids playing detective," said the sheriff of Windsor, "they're a bunch of animals anyhow."
On a scrap of paper was a note attributed to being Roscoe36's last words: "Damn, not again".
On the flip side, the letter L was written.
"Its a tough way to go. I thought he had gotten rid of 'The Microwave'"
Apparently not soon enough.

Some preliminary legwork:
Slippy announced the last hanging on 9/13 at 10:59 am. He announced the nuking of our beloved leader this morning, 9/15, at 10:42 am. So I am assuming that the murderer acted in a post sometime bewteen those two posts. (If that's already a faulty assumption, somebody please let me know).
I ran a search of everyone on the subject list, just to eliminate those who did not post at all during that time frame. That eliminated, if I executed my search correctly: majestik, Aurorakmw, and warthog.
It leaves: me, Tayshaunofthedead, Jammertime, Bezeach, Webz, Lurker, Hack, The Low, Dumars4Ever, and Darth Tater.
Now, I know I didn't do it, but for the sake of an orderly investigation: here are the number of posts by each of those people during that time frame, from most to least:
Darth Tater: 17
Professor: 11
Webz: 8
Hack: 7
Bezeach: 4
Jammertime: 4
Lurker: 2
Tayshaunfothedead: 2
Dumars4Ever: 2
The Low: 1
Obviously, this doesn't in itself mean anything since it takes just one post to kill.
but somehow it felt like a useful start to the deliberations (even if it put Darth and I at the top of a list)....

I think your assumption must be correct about the timing Prof, but the way Slippy works...:dizzy2:...who knows?
Slippy, are you messing with us or is Roscoe really dead? The murderer usually waits until the last possible moment to act, but this time he posted before the deadline, right? And don't give me one of those pat answers about Management appreciating my inquiries and crap like that!:boxing:

My question is: does the killer HAVE to make a post in the timeframe?

My question is: does the killer HAVE to make a post in the timeframe?
:pound:
YOUR question? didn't you write the rules???
I've been sitting here thinking about this question, and I keep coming up with the dizzying possibility that if there are two murderers at large they may be operating on two different "frequencies" or "rhythms", each of which would still be obliged to conform to the 3 day rule (that a murderer must strike within 3 days of a hanging).
:confused: --> :noidea: --> :smash:
It's dizzying to me because I can't for the life of me figure out the logical parameters by which we would then be able to definitively determine a window within which the deadly post must have occurred. And if we can't do that, then I have no idea how we might use the search features to aid our investigation. And if we can't do that then we might as well just enjoy the rush that comes with whipping up a hysterical lynch mob (and don't get me wrong, that really is fun).

Based on prof's timeframe, I looked for the possible Pistons word "Wallace" and didn't find it. I'm not coming up with any other Pistons words with A, E, L, L.
If the killer is dropping the two non-Pistons words in a post without using the Pistons word, can the A, E, L, L clues appear anywhere in the post, or do they have to appear together in a single word?

Seriously, I dunno Mo. You may be correct. Ask Prof.
Hanged or Hung?
Hanged means "executed by hanging." Some authorities accept hung.
Hung means "suspended" otherwise.
Both are past tenses or past participles of the verb to hang, but each applies to specific cases.
Examples: The five plotters in the Lincoln assassination were hanged.
We hung the towels out on the clothesline to dry.

actually the word Wallace appears in a ppost by Bezeach in the Tigers vs. Twins thread (Post # 12), and within the time frame (posted yesterday, the 14th, at 6:25 pm):
"To add insult to injury, Ben Wallace took his 'fro and followed the dough to Chicago to play for the Bulls."

How about the word "basketball"? Suspects who have used this word during the timeframe include prof (http://www.pistonsforum.com/detroit-pistons-general-discussion/3806-lack-enthusiasm-poll-4.html?highlight=basketball#post49442), webz (http://www.pistonsforum.com/fantasy-basketball/4317-adv-league-06-07-banter.html?highlight=basketball#post49428) (in the signature, which also includes the potential Pistons word "Wallace"), and, um, me (http://www.pistonsforum.com/detroit-pistons-general-discussion/4192-joe-dumars-hof-2006-a.html?highlight=basketball#post49350). But I didn't do it so go blame somebody else.

so let's say that the killer did not use the pistons word (which is the one that has the clue letters). then we'd essentially be completely in the dark about who did it, right? I mean, apart from the sheer fact of posting (which 10 of us did during the time frame) there's nothing to go on.
hmmmm...
on that basis, unless somebody comes up with something more solid between now and 10:47 am when the poll closes, I'll wind up just voting for bezeach, which is about the same as pulling a name out of a hat...

Well under deadline pressure I resisted the urge to join the gang of people who voted to hang bezeach. I really could only find one eensy little piece of evidence (the basketball word offense in two possible murder posts).
I voted for Jammertime because I found a pattern (not a strong one mind you) of what might be repeated basketball cluewords in his posts over the three murders.
However, I must say that it is not strong evidence by any means. But stronger than what I could find on bezeach.
My detective work has been negatively impacted in my recent move and I have had neither time nor opportunity to give a high quality sleuthing effort.
I sure hope we haven't been hanging all innocents this round. Because there are going to be fewer and fewer of us as we proceed. :bolt:

 these get better and better everytime slippy.
The Linwood Memorial Coal Oven still had that smoked meat smell from the mobs last episode of JUSTICE. The Chili was frozen and ready for the season. But today a new brand of justice was to hit the market.
"hey, we got no fuel for the fire" someone said.
"hell, flames about done gone out on this one."
"You mean the game?"
"No man, the oven. What we gonna do? Bezeach ain't cooking himself."
"I just turned vegetarian," said the prof.
"No you didn't," said Tay
"yes I did."
"no you didn't"
"Did"
"Did not"
In frustration, prof picked up a baseball and tried to pelt Tay with it but the wily kid ducked and the ball hit bezeach who was tied to a post.
"Ow!" yelled bezeach.
"Death by pitching!!! Poetic Justice worthy of motown. FOR MOTOWN!!!!"
"Yeah but its Roscoe we are avenging."
"Oh, Him too. START THE pelting!!!!"
50,000 errant pitches later it was over.
"Hey, we're basketball fans. What did you expect?"

Turns out Mrs. Linwood has some pull with the Big Guy,so she called in a favor to keep my wondering eye in check.
Thanks to Mrs. Linwood, my residential status has been downgraded from "Heaven" to "Nice-Place-to-Raise-Kids."

Don't want to show my geekiness, but this reminds me of an episode of Millenium (old Fox show with Lance Henriksen) where this guy had a giant microwave in his basement. People would go in, thinking it's just a room, door would shut, then ZAP!!!:flame:
