Welcome to the trial league! The purpose of this league is to explore all of the functionality of NBA.Com's new fantasy basketball league while having the most fun possible. Members of this league are in for something special as we introduce the following new features:

(1)Commissioner editable player position eligibility
Now, if a player that plays center regularly during the season is listed as a Power Forward we no longer need to wait for Yahoo to update its roster. Your commissioners will be on the ball updating the players regularly as fantasy basketball sources acknowledge the players eligibility.

(2)Configurable Playoffs
Sick of spending the entire season building a champion just to see your scrubs play for the final two weeks and cost you the season? We’ve softened the pain by abbreviating the playoffs to include only the top 4 teams. This way, regular season play is truly rewarded in the postseason allowing the teams with elite fantasy players to cope with the same type of circumstances (rested starters for playoffs, increased rate of season ending injuries, and youth/lineup development)

(3)Divisions / Editable Schedule
There will be two Divisions: Bad Boys and Goin' To Work.
The Head and Assistant Commissioner will conduct an offline draft to determine which teams play in the respective divisions. The schedule will then be designed (by the Head Commissioner) to allow GMs to play opposing teams in their division 3 times. The remaining 4 weeks will be inter-divisional rivalry weeks.

Let me explain how this will work.

Each team will provide a list of inter-divisional opponents they’d rather face in order of preference. Based on this info, the Head Commissioner will design a schedule. These contests should be a lot of fun complete with mounds and mounds of trash talk! J

(4)Home Court Advantage

The tie breaker for Head to Head matchups this year will now be based on Home Court Advantage. Honestly, I'm not quite sure how this affects the outcome yet as each category is scored as a win. If this determines the winner of a category during a matchup (which is what I'm hoping), this makes it very intriguing as the home whistle can now factor into the results. I hear its a bee-yotch trying to get a win in Roscoe's Arena. :)

(5)Multi-Team Trades

This is where it really gets cool. Now, you can make a multi-team blockbuster trade that will turn the league upside down. Just hope that you aren't Danny Ainge at the end of this one.

(6)Co-Owners

Having problems dedicating time to the Trial League? Want to bring a friend into the action to help ya out? With the co-owner feature you can share a team with another owner. Team Prof/TayDead for instance. This is a great backup option should you run into difficulties making a lineup change or if there is a free agent pickup you want to jump on but don’t have access to a computer. Outside of that, its just fun to build a championship team with a good friend. Just be aware that it’s a marriage. You probably won’t agree on everything, so you need to be prepared to compromise. J

One note worth mentioning is that noone is an expert in this league…thus the TRIAL moniker. I will be looking for the managers of this league to post feedback and any helpful hints/options as they maneuver through the season. The goal is to get everyone familiar with the capabilities of this fantasy league so that we can determine if we want this to be our standard format going forward. Every manager is important to that process.

Like the advanced league, we will be posting a suggested Live Draft time poll. Please vote accordingly. Once we’ve filled up all 12 manager spots, the Commissioners will conduct the offline team draft and construct the regular season schedule. Please fill free to PM me your preferred selections for the rivalry weeks at anytime after the division team draft results are announced.

Let’s get this party started!

Since signup has completed and invites have been sent, we are now just waiting for everyone to login to the site. Once this is done, Roscoe and I will complete the offline Divisional team draft and announce the results in no relevant order.

For those GMs interested in adding another manager to their team, send me a PM with the manager's name and email address and I will add them to the league.

Roscoe and I have just completed the first Divisional Team Draft and here are the results in no relevent order:

BAD BOYS - Division

LA Dre
Jammertime
Webz
MotownPride
DarthTater
DLev

GOING TO WORK - Division

Roscoe
Griffin
WinlessWonders
Linwood
Himat
Slippy

At this point I need each GM to email me their preferred list of inter-divisional opponents (GMs in the rival division) so that I can construct the remainder of the schedule. Please rank all 6 teams! You will be facing 4 of the 6 teams during the regular season. Deadline for requests will be Monday Oct. 2. Good luck fellas and I apologize for all those teams not lucky enough to be a part of the greatest division in Trial League, BAD BOYS. You can thank Roscoe for that. ;)

I want my guys in Going to Work to know that you were all hand selected by me.

We are the Blue Collar conference. No pretty boys (like Darth and his gothic black toenails), no high flyers (like Brother Motown's hot babes gallery on MySpace), no weird Canadian MC Hammer wannabees like Jammerpants.

We're lunch bucket, hard nosed, blood and guts fantasy warriors.

And when that company whistle blows, we're going to work. Kicking the Bad Boys' butts.

Being ugly and winning may have worked for the Celtics, but it won't work for you guys. You guys sound bitter because you don't get the commercials. You don't get the countless women yellin from out the hotel window, "Come get it Mr. Potato Head"! "Can I get a shake with those fries?" See, we are a conference of champions. We are the "thinkin men". We work smarter not harder. Like Rick Flair, we have managed to be the dirtiest, grimiest players in the game while "Stylin' and Profilin". So while your wife and kids surround the great GMs of the BAD BOYS division to catch a glimpse or get an autograph...remember this could never be you. lol. We bring intelligence, style and muscle.

Step up and get beat down. We are the BAD BOYS!

and in the words of my man, MC. Jammer Pants,

So is this just some fancy by-play or is one of the goals of this league for one division to beat the other?

Have to say that the bad boys looks incredibly tough (think central division) and the other division, well theres a free pass into the playoffs for anyone over .500 at the end of the season (think atlantic division).

Get scrappin boys. How many ears you gonna take home in those lunch pails at night?

Oh yeah, huge braggin' rights for the division that has the best record versus the other division. Perhaps a competition? Losing division has to wear an Avatar for two weeks that says "Property of Bad Boys". (or Goin to Work, but we know that won't happen. :) )

Great question. Actually there is....sorta. I was thinking about randomizing the selections (randomize button) and then letting the trade posturing for draft picks/selection begin. Only one problem. I'm unable to identify if the trade draft pick option is a function available only to the Commissionsers or if the GMs can do it on the fly, during the draft or both. This is where that inexperience in how this league works plays a factor. This would be a nightmare if it is up to the Commish to manage all of those activites during a draft. So, if you or another GM could do me a favor and poke around the site to see if any trade draft pick options are available to the GMs it will help alot. Otherwise, we will just continue the current course to avoid confusion.

It would only be a nightmare for the GM. I'm fine with it!

I did some searching but didn't see anything about trading picks.

But I did notice a couple of other cool features! I like the "trading block" feature especially.

Okay, just got a response from NBA.com support.

It looks like trading draft picks can only be done pre-draft, do not require league approval and can only be handled by the commish. I think we'll pass this time around fellas. The overhead of managing 14 picks for 12 different teams seems a bit ambitous this year.

One thing I must comment on is that the NBA.com fantasy b-ball customer support is excellent. They normally give me answers within the half hour and they have done a great job at answering questions to my satisfaction. (Which is not very easy. :) )

Whewwww!

Well, I finally completed the schedule. It ended up being alot more time consuming than I anticipated. Finally, I got smart and downloaded a free scheduler that helped me out a bit. It still required a lot of work considering I was trying to factor in interleague play.

Anyway here is the breakdown.

Each team will play against a team in their division three times. There will be seven weeks of inter-divisional play. This means that everyone will get the opportunity to play someone from an opposing division at least once. The last inter-divisional game will pair you up against someone listed in your top 3 preferred list (if you emailed me). Home court advantage will alternate from Bad Boys to Going to Work every inter-divisional week with the exception of the last week of Mar19 - Mar25. At this time, the home court advantage will be awarded to the team that was the visitor for the previous matchup between the two rival teams.

Hope I didn't confuse the hell outta ya.

To see the complete schedule, please login to the NBA.com fantasy page.

Here are the inter-divisional matchups (Home teams in bold) :

Week 3
Webz vs Winless
Jammer vs Slippy
Dre vs Griff
Motown vs Roscoe
Darth vs Linwood
Dlev vs Himat

Week 6
Linvwood vs Webz
Slippy vs Motown
Winless vs Jammer
Griff vs Darth
Roscoe vs Dlev
Himat vs Dre

Week 9
Webz vs Roscoe
Jammer vs Himat
Dre vs Winless
Motown vs Linwood
Darth vs Slippy
Dlev vs Griff

Week 12
Slippy vs Webz
Griff vs Jammer
Linwood vs Dre
Himat vs Motown
Roscoe vs Darth
Winless vs Dlev

Week 15
Motown vs Winless
Darth vs Himat
Dre vs Slippy
Jammer vs Roscoe
Webz vs Griff
Dlev vs Linwood

Week 18
Griffin vs Motown
Himat vs Webz
Slippy vs Dlev
Roscoe vs Dre
Linwood vs Jammer
Winless vs Darth

Week 21
Webz vs Slippy
Linwood vs Darth
Winless vs Dre
Roscoe vs Motown
Himat vs Jammer
Griff vs Dlev

Alright, looks like its alright now. I get the feeling that we are acting as the guinea pigs this year. As of now they've improved the interface to be more similar to Yahoo where you can see the stats for players for each day. They've also added another link called team results that gives you a lot of statistical options. The real time stat feature seems really sucky compared to Yahoo as it looks like it only tells your entire teams stats real time versus each individual player. Hopefully, they fix that as well. Who knows...perhaps by week 2 we will have a serviceable product on our hands. (I'm wearing my optimism goggles)

Thanks for being on top of it Motown. You're a cool guy no matter what Tater says about you. :stirthepot:

Oh, I wouldn't worry about Tater. He's under a lot of pressure seeing that after our matchup he will need to get my sneaker surgically removed from his back side.

Motown,

is there a way to look at a head-to-head breakdown between you and your opponent? i can't find this anywhere.

Yep.

On the left hand side of the main page you should see the head to head matchups (SCORES & SCHED). Click on the scores to the right of the names to get a category breakdown between the two teams.

Seems like an awkward place for this, but it works nonetheless.

Unlike Yahoo, when you add a free agent the player is available the same day on NBA.com...very interesting.....

But IF I'm not mistaken, on NBA.com you need to set your lineup at least one day in advance, so really he wouldn't be available until the next day anyhow. So same difference.

OK Mo, I'll shut up. For now... :pound::tape:

Good ole Trial League...

has got the final scores screwed up.

Why am I not suprised? lol.

It appears that they treat commiting MORE turnovers as WINNING the category.

Sad...just sad.

FYI, I moved another one of my leagues that I commish from NBA.com to Yahoo and it took significantly less time than I expected. Yahoos interface for porting the rosters is very chic.

So after a couple weeks of evaluation I've decided that.....

If there is a general consensus to move to Yahoo, I'd be fine with that. There is one caveat though. We'd probably miss the first two weeks of the season getting everyone to sign back up. If you are sick of the insanity, post here if you'd be interested in us moving this thing over to Yahoo.

I'm willing to stick it out at NBA.com as well if that is what the masses want, but at this point I think the technical difficulties might be outweighing the features.

One can only do so much to dress up a rusty bucket.

I'm fine either way because I don't have a lot of time to invest in managing my team.

But if you need some assistance with the legwork or organization for a move, let me know.

I wouldn't mind a move to Yahoo. I hate the NBA interface. I had already decided that I was going to spend considerablly less time managing the Trial League than the Advanced League simply because it was so annoying.

However, if the majority wants to stay, I won't quit or anything. I'll just hold a huge grudge on anyone that votes to stay.:P

I think that if we do decide to move, we should do it as soon as possible so that we affect as little of the season as we can.

Assuming we do vote to jump ship, if I can be of any service during the big move, let me know.

I'll start the move tonight.

Look for invites.

The faster you sign up the better.

Let's bring the life back into this league! :)

So it was the turnovers huh? When I looked at the standings last night I was in first place and now all of sudden I see that I have dropped to second..:noidea:...hummmm, behind the commissioner.:bs:

It easier for me to manage from Yahoo, so I don't mind, so do what is necessary fix and move.

I'm with stupid.

I mean, whatever you guys wanna do. I mean i was already putting most of my effort into advanced, but having an ugly interface really doesn't help my trial squads cause.

if we move will we re-draft?

in all fairness, it's called a trial league. but whatever. it's the only league i'm in, so i want it to be competitive. and it won't be if people hate the interface.

so I, too, am with stupid.

NBA.com blows. I am down with what ever you guy's decide. All of my other fantasy teams are with Yahoo so it would be no big deal. It is very hard to manage your team with such a poor interface. It takes the fun out of it.

Did I beat Roscoe? I'm fine with the move. I have all these other PF.com fantasy leagues on Yahoo. Put the trial league over there. Maybe I can be competitive in at least one.

The insanity has finally ended.

The league has been created...let's rock and roll.

Signup quickly..and maybe...just maybe we might be able to salvage some of the week.

I've sent out email invites to everyone. You can also look on our NBA.com trial league page for the details.

From this point on the league will be known as the "Open" League.

See ya there! :)
