From the Free Press: (http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060924/SPORTS05/609240700/1053)
Chelios is competing for minutes with Andreas Lilja and Brett Lebda. Lebda, though, has the advantage of being a puck-mover. Chelios and Lilja, however, are boosts to the penalty-killing units. Babcock plans to use the exhibition season, which resumes tonight with a game against Florida, to mull the third pairing.
I think the oldest player in the league will beat out Lilja, and barring injuries, will be paired with Lebda.

A cadaver could beat out Lilja.

Chelios is set to pass Stevie Y in games played in the next few weeks, and apparently he isn't thinking about quitting any time soon.
A few weeks ago, on the Red Wings' swing through western Canada, a fan inside Calgary's Saddledome held up a placard that read, "Hey, Chelios! Jesus called and He wants his sandals back!"
After 1,501 games, Chelios is just warming up - 12/06/06 - The Detroit News Online (http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20061206/SPORTS0103/612060382/1004/SPORTS)

The man is a freak of nature.
Its also pretty impressive that he has only played for 3 teams in his 23+ seasons.
Seven with Montreal, 9 with Chicago and now is now in his 8th with the Wings.

Is there any doubt that he is a lock for the HOF?
What I like is that he is so passionate about the game. His activity with the NHLPA is part of his off ice legacy as a leader and steward for the game.

Chelios takes a leave of absence from the Wings after the murders of 2 employees at his bar Cheli's Chili Bar.

Its refreshing to see a professional athlete go to this length. I don't know how involved he is with his restaurant, but I can't see a lot of players doing this.
