Flamboyant Dallas Cowboys (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/teams/dal/) receiver Terrell Owens (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/3664/) attempted suicide by overdosing on pain medication, even putting two more pills into his mouth after fire rescue personnel arrived.

Police: T.O. tried to kill himself - NFL - Yahoo! Sports (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news;_ylt=Av.sEE6ziHoLvQ2v3eL96S85nYcB?slug=ap-cowboys-tosuicideattempt&prov=ap&type=lgns)

Um, WHOA...that would be quite a story. The way I heard it was how it was initially reported, I guess, which was that he went to the hospital because of an allergic reaction (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=ap-cowboys-owenshospitalized&prov=ap&type=lgns). But now they're saying he tried to kill himself?!

WTF?

ESPN.com just broadcast the last segment from Mike and Mike in the Morning, where they talked about it. They said that he had apparently been offered some mental health counseling by the Niners and then by the Eagles, back when he was playing for those teams, but he had refused it. I had chalked up all of his shenanigans in the last couple of years to immaturity, but it looks like he may indeed have been dealing with some very serious psychological troubles.

Yeah, me too Dumars. Well said.

I couldn't stand the guy because of the way he acted. Now I just feel really sorry for him. :(

...it looks like he may indeed have been dealing with some very serious psychological troubles.
I've been wondering for a while if T.O. has bipolar mood disorder or is a borderline personality. He needs help from an excellent mental health professional who knows how to work with high profile people.

I'm just glad he's still alive. Although I bet he isn't glad about it today. What a nightmare for him to weather through now.

I don't even know the legal issues involved and his contract. He might not be a football player anymore. He better get his agent and a great attorney on the phone and come up with a story and stick to it. The owner will support him. But what will Parcells do? He has to consider the impact on the team. Sigh.

I'm sorry. I'm just very upset. It's somewhat personal for me as I am bipolar. Untreated mental illness just destroys the life and spirit. To have great talent like T.O. on top of it is a curse. I never bought that T.O. was just a malcontent troublemaker. There has always seemed to be something else he couldn't control going on with him.

I know everyone hates him, but to not see T.O. on the football field again? His beautiful physique, cat-like grace, his "irrational exuberance". I was so happy when someone took him. I thought his last game in Philly might be his last game period.

Oh it's just the worst sports new in a long time for me. He's going to get raked over the coals, chewed up and spit out, and raped and pillaged by the national sports media. A feeding frenzy will begin with all these false expressions of concern, then as soon as the formalities of good taste have been dispensed with, they'll start in on the bios of his troubled carreer like he's already dead. Such an easy target.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! T.O. GET WELL SOON!

The latest I heard on the radio is that T.O. is already out of the hospital, his publicist denies that it was a suicide attempt, and a couple of the people he's talked to (Michael Irvin, Deion Sanders) are also saying that he denies having tried to commit suicide.

WHAT

THE

:censored:

This whole story is already a huge fiasco. Who knows what the truth is, at this point.

What? Roscoe's a dude????? :jaw: I guess the name "Roscoe" should have tipped me off. But I just figured his old name was "Microwave"..which reminds me of an appliance...which reminds me of a kitchen...which reminds me of my mom...

BUT...my detective work sucks as you all know.

Well, no. :ner-ner: But seriously, it seems like an odd thing to assume on a sports-related web forum. How many women even post here on a regular or semi-regular basis? Aurora, armygirl, and...well, pretty much no one else, right? I guess there's Natalie who runs need4sheed.com, but unless clearly stated otherwise, I think it's generally safe to assume that we're a bunch of dudes.

I mean, I've never seen him with a girl.

And I've seen pictures of him in mini skirts and he looks even better than Terrell Owens.

And I thought his whole thing with Lee was kinda like a lovers quarrel.

Yeah, man. I did think he was a girl.:pound:What makes you so certain he isn't?

Seeing as how this thread started off being about a possible suicide attempt by Terrell Owens, can we now lay claim to having just gone through the biggest non-sequitir in PF.com history? :first:

Yes indeed. But hilarity is often the first reponse to something sad and shocking.Call it denial, avoidance, head in the sand...suicide is such a potent and powerful word.

I must say the picture of Vinnie really picked up my mood this morning. Eye candy! I've seen him on NBATV Great Games before but I was watching Laimbeer and Isiah more.

"Flamboyant Dallas Cowboys (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/teams/dal/) receiver Terrell Owens (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/3664/) flashed a thumbs-up as he left a hospital Wednesday, hours after the release of a police report saying he tried to kill himself by overdosing on pain medication. A confusing series of events swirled around T.O. with few answers.

Police and fire officials held news conferences to say they couldn't talk because of privacy issues. Owens planned to talk publicly at team headquarters later Wednesday afternoon, and the Cowboys went about their business without their No. 1 receiver for now".

Conference scheduled for 3:30 pm.

Police say T.O. tried to kill himself, publicist says it's not true - NFL - Yahoo! Sports (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news;_ylt=AisQnD5Af7iORJG6RePCY3M5nYcB?slug=ap-cowboys-tosuicideattempt&prov=ap&type=lgns)

T.O. now says:

"There was no suicide attempt," Owens said. "The rumor of me taking 35 pills is absurd," said Owens, who said the rest of the pills in the empty bottle were in a drawer.

Sounds to me like he's probably telling the truth, but how the hell did this happen? A story gets out that he tried to kill himself, and now it turns out to be false? I can't remember anything like this ever happening before, in such a public way. It's completely messed up.

I feel sorry for T.O. I think he was depressed because he got injured again. I don't think he tried to kill himself though. Anyone that has or knows people that have taken Vicoten knows that those are some mind altering drugs and can put you in a dark place by just taking the regular dosage let alone adding a couple more pills thinking it will kill the pain more.

I also heard about some of T.O's child hood and how he grew up not knowing who his father was only to find out his father lived across the street from him the whole time and never acknowledeged him. Then also finding out the girl he had a crush on was actually his sister. That is some wild stuff. I think any person would be a little messed up going through that.

I've stronly disliked T.O. for a long time. Today I feel sorry for him.

It really puts football in perspective. As well as these guys get paid and as much as we critique their every move on the field, they're still human off it and struggle with the same types of demons everyone else does.

On the John Thompson radio show this afternoon, someone called in and started complaining about how they were all dogging TO, criticizing him too much, etc. When the coach mentioned that it was the police report that mentioned a suicide attempt, not just a media rumor, the caller said something like, "yeah, but this is the Dallas police department, the same one that allowed the Kennedy assassination to happen." Boy, did that guy get cut off quickly! The :tinfoil3: hat was firmly in place...

Haven`t read through all the posts in this thread but I had to say this. Do you guys really think TO tried to kill himself?? The man that is so full of himself, to end it all??

PLEASE.

Now someone trying to kill TO, or TO killing someone other than himself, that`s a different story. I don`t know all the details surrounding this bizzare situation but IMO, TO did not try and kill himself.
