This must be amateur hour...

Some constants about rappers:
- they compare their neighbourhood to a warzone
- they think of themselves as poets
- they're always coming (not going) somewhere
- they've got nothing to say
- they must tell everyone about it right now
- they're very angry about the nothing they must tell everyone about right now

Artest, you've made it!

I'd agree if you prefixed this with "unauthentic, stereotypical rappers". Otherwise, you are excluding many rappers that have matured the genre since the days of the Sugar Hill Gang. If you are really interested in finding rappers that don't fit the mode you describe I'd be more than happy to turn you on to some inspirational, thought provoking rap music. You just might be suprised. :)

I think this guy is so crazy that he thinks his name is kind of a foresight... like that it's his faith to make horrible music no one would listen to if he wasn't a good baller... and that's just because his name is "Artest".
What would happen if he overthrows with his record label? I don't think NBA shirts are big enough for a player name like "the player formerly kown as Artest". But the record's would be kinda funny- "the Artist formerly known as Artest"- ok, maybe not funny, this joke's probably so old that it's growing a beard alread.

I like the Nasty North song.

Ron needs to pony up some of that Sacramento cheddah for some real producers. Seriously, the right producers can make mediocre talent seem great and I know there are some peeps in California that can do better than that.

No matter what you think of Ron's brilliant lyrics and rapping style, the production is total amature time.

C'mon TruWarier, you gotta spend some lootcakes to make some lootcakes!

Actually those would be examples of what you described.

I was thinking more among the likes of:

Common, Tribe Called Quest, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Dead Prez, De La Soul, Pharoah Monch, Jurassic 5...

Rolling down Rodeo with Ron Artest (borrowed from RATM)

ESPN.com: Page 2 : Road trippin' with Tru Wariers (http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=alipour/061005)
"Even if the NBA suspended me for the rest of my career, I'm good," he continues. "I believe in God, and as long as you have God and family, you're good."

Artest then leaps to his feet. The night is not over.

"Wariers, we out!" he exclaims. "Time for the after-party."

I blew through this thread so fast, I can truly say you didn't waste any of my time.
I hate that some of our youth actually find happiness with some of this BS. I wish they didn't have to go through that.
