He was (along with Oscar Robertson) one of my first two basketball heroes (when I first came to basketball consciousness at the age of 6 in 1971). Here's a nice article recounting a lunch/interview with the wizard of westwood. They don't make many like him anymore...

Coach Wooden is a very great person indeed...much more than just a basketball coach. More like a philosophy professor, or something. You don't just learn about a game from someone like him, you learn about the meaning of life.
