I don't know who caught this, but they are now calling Maxiell the Barhma Bull, which as far as I know was originated by linwood, Mercury or someone else on the board.

From the boxscore it looks like I was wrong about JMax, I hope he keeps proving me wrong.

My Grades

Rip, B-
Bad handles, active but not particularly sharp

Chauncey, A
Solid, not flashy

Tayshaun, B
Learning to coast like a true veteran...

Sheed, C+
Stupid tech, setting a bad example for the kids. KG was average and looked 2 or 3x better than Rasheed.

Nazr, B+
Hustle, effort. Had few plays run for him, and had zero rebounds in the first half. Hit a nice rolling hook while cutting through the lane.

_________________________________________

Delfino, B+
Good energy, hustle. Great passer. Not particularly outstanding tonight.

Flip Murray, A
Really aggressive outing, had the play of the night, a crossover dribble drive with a slam. His attacking style compliments Delfino in transition. Some passes were a little scary.

Lindsey Hunter, B
Does just enough to earn more playing time. Hit some jumpers and keyed several transition scoring opportunities. If he could feed the post, Maxiell would have had 20+.

Antonio McDyess, C+
Too many ticky tack fouls, lousy tech arguing a call (he was right however), starting to get more involved in transition.

Jason Maxiell, A-
His only weakness was FT shooting. He was ultra powerful, suprisingly quick, ran almost every fastbreak as a trailer. Low rebounding #s are a team wide phenomenon, and certainly not worth punishing an undersized PF over IMO.

Ronald Dupree, F
Saw limited time at the end of the first and second halves. His lack of a jumper and tendency to overdribble is why he cannot get on the court. In years past the 15th man could be a hustle guy, but with this team playing hoping to play deep this year, Ron's simply too one dimensional to fill at 13 while Amir Johnson and Will Blalock go to basketball school.

Good outing for the coaching staff to evaluate. The Wolves suck, and one of their starters would have a hard time making the Pistons as a reserve.

Note: Terry Porter was glued to Flip's right hip, very animated on the bench and involved during timeouts.

I graded players totally on my observations, biases and certainly on a sliding scale based upon what I have seen from them thus far. Flip Murray's "A" would have been a Rip Hamilton B+.

I didn't see the game since I don't live in Canada (wtf?), but judging by the box score, Delfino didn't do much. 24 minutes, 1 for 6, 0 assists? That sounds more like a C- for a guard. 2 offensive boards... I'll assume those were his own shots.

Sheed was 5-8 with 2 treys! And JMax looks like he wants to join the party this year. Flip Murray had a great game except for the 5 turnovers (probably due to general sloppiness of the game). And Nazr was solid again.

This is a very interesting start to the season. If Nazr, Flip, JMax, and Delfino are for real, then I am sold on this year's chances.

Delfino played excellent defense and enables Flip and Hunter when he is on the floor.

The stuff that you don't get in the box.

It's all about Flip Sr's ability to judge players based on intangible contributions for Carlos.

Here are the NBA.com highlights. The Flip Murray drive and Dunk was the Pistons play of the game.

Pistons 101, Wolves 96 (F) (http://boss.streamos.com/wmedia/nba/nbacom/recaps/pre_detmin_06103.asx)

There seems to be a general malaise about this game. Did the Tigers steal their thunder? Chat had a few veterans, but nowhere near the turnout I would expect for the second preseason game. :ohwell:

jmax played great. he's still the blackhole but i don't expect anything more from him. he had two dunks on the fast break worthy of me getting out of my seat to cheer. i look forward to seeing him unleashed in the regular season i don't know if guys are ready for his aggressiveness.

Great. Thanks for posting that. I'm really pissed that I get NBA TV and league pass and I can't see a pre season game. Oh well.

JMax plays the way that I wish I played at the gym. Bball would be so much more fun if I could do that... especially without refs.

Thanks for the link. I won't be at chats much this season. I'm in a new time zone and it really sucks for games (+5) so games dont start til 1 or 2am now. whereas last year in aus the games start at 11am-12noon. I may stay up for some games on weekends, but i can't participate much this season which is a bit annoying.

I watched and thoroughly enjoyed the unleashing of the Brahma Bull. I don't chat because I'm relatively new to basketball and the game still looks very fast to me. Add in a computer screen - - and I'll miss everything.

I'll second what bball jay said about guys not being ready for his aggressiveness. It's almost comical to watch the opposing players respond to him. And it's not that he is playing dirty (from what I can tell). It's like he is a great ball of energy (a black hole, if you will) that they can't quite figure out how to deal with.

one other thing: Did I see Asst. coach Igor on the bench? Are the Pistons keeping him another year? Will he ever be Hallway Coach?

If Flip can't judge, hopefully Joe will tell him. Last year, Delfino and Evans were at their best playing WITH each other. Their games complimented one another, but Flip chose to play them AGAINST each other, or simply just didn't like having Rip and Tay out at the same time.

Fair enough. But be advised, it's no meeting of the minds, mostly just a bunch of forum members shooting the breeze. You are always welcome.

Off the bench, he creates mismatch problems and because he runs the break and can work off the block, the Pistons can use him to control tempo. A game changer like that can be valuable if he continues to improve.

LOL. They usually have IGOR on radio after the games. He's not popular enough for TV yet. :pound:
