WOW! Didn't see this coming. Are they sure they have the right Rogers? Maybe Charles switched bottles when no one was looking.

Lions defensive tackle Shaun Rogers will be suspended for four games by the NFL for taking a banned, over-the-counter substance, an official within the league told The Associated Press on Tuesday night. The official spoke on the condition of anonymity because the NFL is expected to announce the suspension Wednesday.

The difference between the Lions and a classy organization is that a class org. would never let a player take supplements or medication during the offseason without consulting with the team medical staff. Never. It's the most basic thing to call the team to check on anything taken.
Speaking of which, do the Lions not have a friggin Nutritionist on staff? Why would a multi-million dollar franchise player be left to purchasing over the counter diet programs to meet weight targets?
This is proof positive that Millen is incapable of running a competitive and professional program. These details are the difference between being a winner and flirting with disaster. The Red Wings employ an extensive and very talented scouting staff. The Pistons employ one of the best strength and conditioning coaches in the NBA, as evidenced by 3 seasons without a serious injury to a key player.
As long as Millen is trying to lead this team, the stuff you see on the field will never be championship caliber. If there is no concept of excellence within the organization, how you can expect the players to commit to it?

I'm sure the organization could have done more to prevent this - especially, like you said, offering an internal nutritionist instead of resorting to over the counter help.
However, each players is supposedly given an extensive list of approved and banned products at the beginning of the year. I think a lot of the blame needs to fall on Rogers himself. If I was in his position, I wouldn't be taking ANYTHING without consulting the team Dr. There's just too much at stake not to.

Big Baby is 100% responsible for being an idiot.
But the Lions have a substantial investment in his availability on Sundays to risk letting him make his own idiotic descisions.
The list of players who took innocent "banned" substances in the NFL is really short. It's the exception, not the norm.

The NFL on Wednesday suspended Detroit Lions defensive tackle Shaun Rogers for four games for violating a league rule on banned substances. The league said the violation involved an NFL policy that covers anabolic steroids and related substances. The announcement didn't say what Rogers took, but an official within the league told The Associated Press on Tuesday night that it was an over-the-counter...

Well that oughta ensure the #1 pick in the draft.Exactly what I was thinking...the Lions are in need to pick up another over-hyped, low work ethic, bad attitude wide receiver

Okay this is just more proof that no one knows what they are doing in Allen Park. So I assume whatever Shaun took had some sort of banned steroid in it or a banned performance inhancement drug.

The Detroit Lions understand they will be missing star defensive tackle Shaun Rogers for the next month. They just aren't clear why. The NFL suspended Rogers without pay for the next four games for violating a league rule on banned substances. The league said Wednesday the violation involved an NFL policy that covers anabolic steroids and related substances.

So let me get this straight. You can smoke herb which is an illegal substance and get busted 3 times by the NFL through failed drug tests before getting suspended 4 games but if you get caught using something that is over the counter and legal but against NFL policy and you automatically get suspended 4 games with out pay without any warning. NICE!!!:stirthepot:
