For those of us who have been watching McMillan since he was the Sonics' coach in November 2000, this scene is as familiar as a layup line. The midcourt meetings. The shouts, heard above the thumping of the basketball and the squeak of the sneakers, are part of McMillan's coaching MO.
But for the first time in his professional life McMillan isn't a Seattle Sonic, the team he faces tonight in Portland in the first exhibition game of the season. But he remains his own man. And he still is coaching the game his way.

I wanted Nate when the LB speculation was at a fever pitch, and while I admire him as a man and coach, I don't think he could have worked with JD. The Pistons culture doesn't seem suited to very strong personalities imposing their will.
I'm wishing Nate all of the success in the world @ Portland. Prove the doubters wrong. He's one heck of a coach.
