Stern has to GO!
I'll offer a few of my choices...pick one or feel free to write-in your candidate.

I think that they need to bring in a hockey guy.
It is true that the crowd likes to see scoring, but it can't be manufactured by touch fouls and techs.
They need to get a higher % of live ball action in an NBA contest. The crowds love fights in hockey, why do they have to sterilize the nba?
... and that's why I nominate Laimbeer as the new commish.

The NHL commissioner is David Stern's apprentice, and is even more hated and reviled than Stern himself. Mini me's name is Gary Bettman. No one likes him. I don't even think his owners like him.
I have been posting on Cuban's blog that he should get the job.
He's a self made billionaire, hip, fan friendly, passionate and smarter than a horse whip.

I mean a hockey guy like Bob Probert, not Bettman.

I posted to 'I love the new nba' tonight...I'm really starting to like his perspective.

I didn't see your post until after I posted at 137. Stern's gotta go lest the NBA becomes the 'good ole boys' club.

I picked Dave Bing, but would rather have someone like Bill Russel.
I will back anyone who champions a fair game and does not crave attention. A good commish should be working behind the scenes quietly keeping the league running well.

Dave would be great. He obviously has a great business sense. I think Cuban is WAAAY too involved to be a fair commish. Plus, he would have to sell the Mavs (I think) to avoid any conflicts of interest.
I vote for Sir Charles. He's a clever guy, he cares about the game, and he will call it like he sees it.

Damn Dave is a good choice... a comprismise between businees sense and player understanding.... very level headed...but yeah he is a busy millionaire.

I want Sir Charles! He is right up there in the Tech hall of fame. He would be good to the players and he knows the game. Why can't they have a separate business manager and a commish who knows the game! I read Charles's book, Who's afraid of a big black man. It was good and a good discussion of racism here in America. Charles has some good insight on people and basketball.

I hate to "play the race card", but it is relevant.
How many black owners are there?
And how many black commissioners have there been in the 4 major NA sports (NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL)?
The odds of a black man getting the job, representing 25+, old money, Caucasian conservatives, are slightly worse than my getting together with 6 playboy bunnies on fantasy island this weekend.
Now I am a big fan of the "best man for the job" but I don't think the NBA works as a meritocracy.

Dave Bing would definitely be a great choice. However, the fans and the owners may not see eye to eye on this one.

Isiah is probably going to be available soon. Let's see what he can do with the league.
