SEATTLE - Sonics General Manager Rick Sund announced today the team’s hiring of Brendan Malone as a basketball-operations consultant.
“The Sonics are thrilled to add Brendan’s basketball expertise to the mix,” said Sund. “His knowledge of defense, in particular, will complement the skills of our existing staff.”
Malone brings to the Sonics staff nearly 40 years of basketball-coaching experience, including 19 years in the NBA. In 1995, Malone was named the first-ever head coach of the expansion Toronto Raptors. He has been an assistant coach in three All-Star Games (1990, 2000 and 2003).
Most recently, Malone was named the head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers on March 21, 2005.
