Quit teasing me. A FIRING would put the Happy back into my 06 Thanksgiving.

There is a guy who has posted some rumours that have become tangible. I saw this on the Detnews, and the rumour is from WeRollhard.

MILLEN FIRED!! (UPDATE: 1:46pm) (http://werollhard.com/forum/index.php?topic=6624.0)

I recommend watching Tom Kowalski's blog on mlive for any breaking news. Killer will "probably" post there first if something breaks.

Take it for what it is...

No way Matt Millen is fired this season. Ford Sr is not going to eat 5 years on his new contract. These are just growing pains of implementing a new coaching staff and offensive and defensive systems. This is what Millen is selling Ford Sr.

This is a beautiful thing.

But even if true, firing him is only half the battle. I know we cannot do any worse, but who would replace him???????

One thing at a time buddy. With the kind of pick we seem destined to achieve, a trained monkey could match or exceed Millen's results.

Even if they fire Millen this mess will not get fixed anytime soon. So they put Tom Lewand in charge. Big deal. He nows nothing about football he is a Russ Thomas clone a bean counter.

To get this mess fixed you have to bring in a guy like Jimmy Johnson as GM who has experience building a team. Anyone with that type of background and brain would not come here because:
1) You would want the head coach to be someone you picked.
2)The Ford's would have to stop meddling in the drafts and player signings.
3)The smell from the pollical backstabbing and power struggles in the Lions Organization is unbareable.

Don't know about this year but if Marinelli can't turn around next years team then the Ford's need to sell because they are the real problem under all this mess.I don't remember where I seen it but it's the fans faults too.Show them by not buying tickets that they need to turn this team around.Hell I would have given Millen an extension,he fills the seats and the pocketbooks.

I've never heard the Fords meddle. Young Ford and Fontes did OK.

Ford Sr is not going to eat 5 years on his new contract.

I agree that its a lot to eat. That's why he was such a moron when he extended him in the first place. Its not like he had a proven track record to go on.

Man, I really hope he gets fired!!!!

This is the Lions news I've been wanting to hear for years, FIRE MILLEN.

If Joey coming back to spank the Lions on Thanks day is the final straw to get Millen outed, how ironic. He coddled Joey so well. But why? Does Marinate stay? Is Martz promoted?

I disagree that it is alot to eat. Latrell Sprewell had a bigger contract and it wasn't enough to feed his family.

Rumors of Matt Millens firing are boiling now.
The Internet is so hot with Millen dismissal stories they are hard to ignore. But with the way hes run this team, it is completely understandable why these rumors wont go away.
The story goes something like this. The Fords were angry over another embarrassing Thanksgiving loss. Last year they acted immediately after Thanksgiving and fired coach Steven Mariucci. Now their target might be Millen.

I need some clarification on this one. According to the DetNews article, the best thing would be to blow up the team and start over making it the oldest franchise in football history.

Now does tis mean hat we release all of our players and we get to pick our team like the Houston Texans i.e.? Do we get umpteen draft picks and pick someone from each NFL team that's not protected.

I really do not understand the process if we are to start from scratch.

I don't think it would be league supported if the tam is blown up.

No supplemental picks.

BREAKING NEWS!!! Millen will be fired...eventually!

As with everything the Ford's do with FoMoCo in staying two steps behind their global competitors and the market, they will eventually catch up to the reasons to can Matt's sorry ass...two years after they should have. How were the Ford's so dumb to extend his contract last year? Aren't businesses usually run based on recent data and trends? William Clay had 5 years of pathetic data to work with and still couldn't make the right call? The Lions were/are the laughing-stock of all professional sports & WCF still can't see the forest-for-the-trees? Just how dumb are the Fords?

As much as I am personally hurting for the auto industry in Detroit, I now fully understand the ineptitude of the Ford Motor Company, in part due to the woes of the Lions. GM, DCX & the foreign automakers are light-years ahead of the current brain-trust at Ford. The Ford's can't even run a fricking football team to the point of being mediocre..while they are running a multi-billion $ corporation into the toilet. Poor Henry is rolling in his grave right now.

FoMoCo? cool name
Well they did hire him on a recent trend... they won a couple of games in a row just before the signing.... this must have seemed like dynasty to them based on their history.
Best job in pro sports next year will be the new Lions GM... I mean is it even possible to do a worse job than M.M.?... instant hero.
The move has to be made before the next years draft... we can not afford another Millen Gaff.

Me too jammer!! Been almost a week since the Joey Turkey stuffing of the Lions. If Millen ain't gone now, then he is probably safe and will probably be around for the next six Lions losses :football:

BTW merc...FoMoCo gets stamped on a lot of parts going thru the presses instead of the oval & Ford script...I didn't make up that moniker

Maybe the Fords will can Millen from the Lions and their Chief Creative Officer, J Mays on the same day. IMO...the only attractive vehicle Mays has pushed thru development is the GT40...except that car sold for way over it's $150K sticker...a car so ridiculous, they only made 4500. I think Mays is as out of touch in Ford designs as Millen is running the Lions...but they're both still on WCF's payroll.

I'm afraid you're probably right. I think we're stuck with Millen for at least (and hopefully most) the rest of this season.

I'd be suprised if they let him go.They are making money with the Lions, sellout after sellout. He needs to go, so do they. Maybe we will get lucky and the Fords will sell the team to raise money for their company.

I think Pride matters as much if not more to WCF than the sellouts to be honest with you.

Yet another embarrassing Thanksgiving day loss. Fan revolt is increasing and our patience has almost completely run out.

However, Ford is also extremely loyal - to a fault I'd say. He thinks of Millen as a son.

Ford Jr. has never been a fan of Millen. It'll be interesting to see how this all unfolds. WCF isn't getting any younger. Eventually Jr is going to take over. I just hope Sr. doesn't extend Millen indefinitely in the mean time....
