Well, well, well.......
Phil Jackson said that one of the only players he had that didn`t` work was none other than The Deisel, Shaquillllllllllllllle O`Neillllllllllllllllll!!
So, I guess it was true when Kobe called him a fat ass a few years back.
Shaq shot back, "How can you believe what Benedict Arnold says".
LOL.......Don`t have any links to these comments but I am sure someone does.......

I just found this link (http://msn.foxsports.com/nba/story/6303850).
As I've complained about in other threads, it's ridiculous how Shaq got away from the whole L.A. situation completely scott-free, in terms of who got blamed for what happened. Obviously Kobe deserved some bad press for it, but once Shaq got to Miami, everyone was all, "wow, look at all the weight he's lost, what a great guy!" Apparently no one thought to make the connection with the fact that he only needed to slim down because his ass had gotten so fat with the Lakers. I guess it just wasn't a good enough "story" to report that they were both acting like spoiled brats, as opposed to the good guy/bad guy angle that it turned into.

I remember when Shaq got to Miami his explanation for losing weight was , Riley asked him to lose it. Huh?
I guess he was implying, Phil didn`t ask him to lose weight and come to camp in shape. Wow........

It's the atheletes job to stay in shape. Shaq being out of shape and overweight for 3 or 4 years while playing probably shorthened his career a good 5 years. So the joke is on him.

I think his reaction was a little bit different than that.
I seem to recall Shaq saying that he bulked up so he was able to take the punishment he was receiving sans the whistles from the refs. He never admitted to being fat. Riley told him that he wanted him to be quicker and agile over brute strength and mass, so Shaq obliged.

Jim Rome's fill-in host today (Roger Lodge) is absolutely shredding Shaq to pieces on air this afternoon. Calling him lazy, saying he never lead the league in rebounding, has less career rebounds than a lot of guys under 6'8", how he has progressively become a worse free throw shooter because he is "uncoachable".
I'm loving it. Shaq is so overrated.

I don`t recall Shaq saying that. He may have meant that, however, I remember him simply saying Phil never said anything about his weight.
He also said when he arrived in Miami he asked Pat Riley what he wanted him to do, Riley may have said what you quoted above, resulting in fat ass losing weight.
I don`t` believe that BS about bulking up to be able to handle the punishment, sounds like a good excuse to overwork his personal chef to me.

Why else do you think Shaq wanted to be a cop? It's the laziest job in the world. Instead of dunking basketball's, he's dunking donuts.
