"Tight end Charlie Sanders is the latest Detroit player to be elected to the Hall (http://www.nfl.com/news/story/9972724) and will be inducted on Aug. 4-5, 2007 in Canton, Ohio. Sanders spent a decade with the Lions and was one of the few outstanding receivers among tight ends on his way to seven Pro Bowls."

This guy was one of my first heros. He and Lem Barney helped the Lions to the playoffs in 1970. He made the eye popping catches. 6'4" 225 lbs.:)

Sanders was great and fun to watch.
I remember something about the Lion's giving him a hard time about collecting for all of his football related injuries. No wonder nobody is willing to go to war for these clowns.

Unfortunately I may have seen only 3 or 4 of his games. I did see one preseason game live in Tampa, and of course he wrecked his shoulder...again.

Until Barry showed up Charlie was my favorite Lion. The dude was as tough as nails and could catch ANYTHING thrown his way. He was also known to layout an unaware defender when blocking for the other receivers.
Couldn't be happier for the first Mr. Sanders.

I think the most passes he caught in a season was 40.
Seems small now but back then TEs had to block the DE. Head slap was still legal.
Know any good #88 stories?
