My team does seem to be in the midst of a mini slump. We'll see if I go down like Webz did in basketball two years ago or Wart did in basketball last year. Both ran away with the regular season titles...only difference is, there is NO TATER to knock me off.
I told you guys I would struggle without Pence and Utley. Once they are back I'll be back to my humble but dominant self.:stirthepot:
But kudos to your boys Roscoe. Your team is playing very well and I'm playing like crap. If it keeps up, I'm history this week. 2nd through 7th place is getting very interesting. Should be an exciting race to the playoffs and for the final bye. Lucky for me I took care of business early on.
Gazoo, the consolation bracket standings count toward your overall finish in the league and also on your all time Yahoo profile standings, so I wouldn't tank if I were you. I won a consolation bracket in football and it wasn't like the regular playoffs but it was kinda fun. But then again, I'm the competitive type and wouldn't want Woody to get bragging rights. Besides, you are a U of M boy. You should be used to the NIT.:caked:

I never thought I would say this Darth, but beating you has become passe.
Well Roscoe, I've been trying to figure out what "passe" means within the context of our past fantasy battles.
I think it must mean "impossible", as in "I never thought I would say this Darth, but beating you has become impossible".
I mean, our scores this year have all gone convincingly my way.
8-1, 8-2, and now 8-3 with a day still to go. Hey, you're getting closer every time. Or maybe Lambs was correct and I just need a tuneup.:stirthepot:
Roscoe, have you EVER beaten me in a fantasy matchup? I think I do remember losing to you in hockey one week, but the memory is fuzzy. I just recall going to work with a paper bag over my head for about a month.
Still one day to go Cannuckian. Have I spoken too soon? Don't count on my boys choking. :hanged2: I'll leave that up to your guys.:pound:
Toodles my Cannuckian friend.
Oh, btw...I am really hoping you make the playoffs. It's becoming "passe" kicking your butt in the regular season.
Gazoo has become the giant slayer of late. He has won 5 weeks in a row all against current playoff bound teams. Mine looks like becoming number 6.
My batters are a bit injured right now and I didn't want to drop anyone so I left my injured SS in all week. Oh well. I figure it doesn't matter too much about where you finish because in the playoffs its going to be a bit of a coinflip. The teams are so even that its going to be whoever happens to play well that particular week.

That is indeed incredible...almost as amazing as Bill Laimbeer kicking my butt this week! :caked:
Sorry about that Webz! :sssh:
My team has been off, but no worries. I could go 0-24 these next two weeks and nothing will change as far as my numero uno playoff seeding. Even so, I don't ever like losing.
I've got 2.5 weeks left to right the ship, but historically, the real Phillies tend to wilt the last month of the season. (Gulp).
I think of the 7 teams with a chance of going to the playoffs, 4 have a pretty much equal chance of winning it all. I won't say who I think they are.
its hard to believe that after so many games and categories it could be so close.
i've got bill next week so we will be scratching for every last cat there. but micro has got woody in his last week and still has a real chance of getting 2nd (no offense woody).
and bezeach still has an outside chance to get 2nd as well.
i would like the bye week, but i'm not afraid to play anyone. my batters have finally woken up at micro's expense. now i just need my pitchers to do the same!

I'll sic Saltalamacchia on Roscoe.
He had a good week yesterday. I'm pressing Gazzo and Winless and I expect to exit last place just before the playoffs.

I don't think you'll need the win or the CG. I'm pretty sure you'll take those categories anyhow. You'll probably get all the pitching cats except maybe not saves.
It's the hitting cats you need to worry about as the Phillies are hitting the ball pretty well these days.
Plus you need some help from winless against Bill's offspring.
Note: Bill, do you plan to break your kids heart by knocking him off in the playoffs if you meet? (Which it appears you may).

I'm currently in new york travelling through the US. I went to a Yankees game last night, my first baseball action.

I've said it before but it's been a very competitive season with a great group of guys. I really enjoyed it.
I know my team broke free from the pack, but I have no expectations for the playoffs because we are all even once it begins. Lots of great teams in there and anyone can win.
Good luck to everyone in both playoff brackets and over the next couple of days.
By the way, we will be starting our hockey league sign ups in here in the near future and I hope those of you that played last year return. I also hope you guys who didn't play last year join us.

I just calculated all the stats from the top 6 teams and found who plays who in the 1st week of the playoffs (there is still one game currently being played but it doesn't effect anyone/any stats that are close... The winning percentages might not be exact, but very very accurate (to at least the thousandths place) So...
1. Darth's Phillies
2. Webz save-vultures, .5417%
3. BezeachBombers, .5246%
4. Bill Laimbeer, .5208%
5. Sandwich Microwaves, .5189%
6. Baseballers, .5152%
So, the matchups:
BYE: Darth's Phillies
BYE: Webz save-vultures
BezeachBombers vs. Baseballers
Bill Laimbeer vs. Sandwich Microwaves

Strangely, I clinched first overall in my other league. I simply have that many better players.
Of course, in the PF league, I get Soriano back, which may have been the difference if I had played him this week.
Any finish over my regular season finish (6th overall) will be a plus.

I'm hoping little lambs knocks off poppa. I always play crappy against Big Bill. Not sure if it's the matchups or just chance. I was kinda hoping to draw Roscoe in my bracket. We are in a lot of leagues together but we never meet in the post season...maybe because he always misses the playoffs?:wedgie:
The match with Roscoe and Bezeach should be a good one. I've felt all year that Bezeach's numbers are worthy of a better record than he shows.
Webz is coming on strong and left no questions in grabbing the remaining bye. He plays the winner of Roscoe/Bezeach.

Honestly, if I lose...sure it's a let down, but I had a great time all year. I've been on the other end of it, so no sour grapes if I get knocked off. You gotta play all the way to the finish. If someone else gets hot in the playoffs...all the power to them.

Bill,
Tell your kid it was a great and exciting match right up to the very last second. But tell him I wasn't scared or worried in the least bit. :faint2:
It was uncanny how he was getting exactly what he needed today. I was sure I''d lost it on the tiebreaker when his relievers caught me by surprise and got 6 strikeouts to tie me in that category when I was most worried about the hits category!! But then I checked a couple hours later and my newly acquired reliever Benoit had saved me with two rare strikeouts of his own.
Still, I was also sweating it out knowing Abreu played that last game. I guess Lady luck just smiled upon me a tad more than she did on him although my own Hennessey did everything in his power to prevent me from winning. And who the heck was that dude who smacked three homers on me the last two days??? Lucky for me your kid benched Guerrero...probably bad advice from Poppa.:pound:
Oh yeah...I won't be able to attend his championship parade but maybe next year.
Actually, tell him thank you for knocking Daddy off for me because you had a nice week and would have kicked my butt like 8-3 or something if we played this week.

Webz,
Are you ready to rumble? It looks like a rematch of our basketball match two years ago when you had the dominant team and I was number two and pulled off the upset. Should be a great one, but I hope I win again.
Either way I'm happy. :winner_first_h4h: or :second: . I didn't want to finish less than 2nd after such a great season. Of course #1 would be preferable.
Sparky Anderson (A legendary Baseball Manager) once said that there was no pressure once you got in the World Series. The Pressure was in the Championship series before it.

My team is explosive like that. I knew they were due. I also had a gut feeling that sitting Howard last week was enough and that he was going to come out of his slump in a big way and I'd better play him. Plus I hate benching my Phillies.
But your batters did well too. There is a long way to go and nothing is even close to over. Just a really nice start for my batters.
I had a pitching gem by Gallardo, but Escobar was horrible, and it's going to take my team a long while to recover from that, if I can at all. But if your team pitches anywhere near the way it did against Roscoe last week, I can forget about winning those categories.
My team is explosive like that. I knew they were due. I also had a gut feeling that sitting Howard last week was enough and that he was going to come out of his slump in a big way and I'd better play him. Plus I hate benching my Phillies.

championship week has been a bit of a dud so far. apart from your mauling on monday the contest has been pretty pathetic. our guys aren't doing a lot right.
i went and picked up swisher for this week cos he was on a hot streak but then he goes and gets suspended til saturday! doh! :nerd2:
I just realised that the championship week goes for 2 weeks! 17-30 sep. whats with that?
i like it though. a chance to catch up.

I think the score looks lopsided but every category is very close.
Yeah, I realized it was two weeks long yesterday. I was thinking it was "only" ten days.
We've been playing poorly overall.
I figure the only way i can win now is to employ strategy. hence my goal this week is to win the 5 pitching categories and win SB. if i do that i should win 6-5, despite being pummelled in the batting categories.
it was how i beat roscoe. not that i was trying to do that mind you. i picked up a couple of guys i've never heard of but they have been pinching a lot of bases lately. now i just need my pitchers to come through for me again.
wagner's 18 ERA last night did not help.

I've been thinking exactly the same thing almost since we began play. I need to get stolen bases or saves. I think you'll end up with most of the pitching categories before it's done. Seems like I replaced almost my entire pitching staff from a month ago due to injuries and stuff. Oh well.
The score was lopsided going into today, but I have no doubt there are enough close categories that you can easily win. Plus whoever takes era wins the tiebreaker...so yeah, it's 9-2...but feels like 6-5 to me. If someone gets lucky and gets a complete game it would be huge. This entire series could be decided by a stolen base or a save. Crazy.
Thank you Oliver Perez for single-handedly screwing my chances. May the knowledge that you blew the championship hang over your head for the rest of your life. :yellowprison:

Cole Hamels pitched brilliantly for me tonight. I think it's his first really good game since I acquired him in a trade months back. Howard was part of that trade too, and he's hit 7 dingers in our series.
Volquez had a bad inning. So this one isn't over although taking the lead in ERA is huge for me. The Phillies aren't celebrating just yet.
Two more days to go.
Here's a good article on the real Phillies... hot off the press, if anyone is interested:
"No major league team has failed to finish first after having at least a seven-game lead with 17 to play. If the Mets become the first team to blow a lead that big, it could finally take the '64 Phils off the hook for their infamous collapse.
Those Phillies had a 6 1/2 -game lead with 12 to play, only to lose 10 straight and finish tied for second place behind St. Louis.
This resilient group has overcome a 4-11 start and a slew of injuries to capture the hearts of a championship-starved city that hasn't celebrated a title since the NBA's 76ers won it all in 1983."

Another fantasy season in the books.
Good match Webz. Congrats on 2nd place & Congrats to Roscoe on 3rd.
I had a dream season, I guess. Pretty much dominated from start to finish. Everything seemed to go right, and even though I felt like my team was running on fumes toward the end, they pulled it out in the semifinals at the last second and played a strong championship round.
That's 13-0 in playoff series for me (including two in a consolation bracket in football one year) and 4 for 4 in league championships in the 4 pf.com fantasy leagues I've been in. This was my first baseball league, so now I've won in every sport.
Basketball 2-0
Baseball 1-0
Hockey 1-0
Football 1-2 (these were not pf leagues).
The best thing is that this time you guys can't complain about me cheating since I couldn't stream.
Ironically, this is the one time where I would not have streamed anyhow...at least not on batting.
Well, the real Phillies won and go to the playoffs and the Lions won too. Too bad MSU lost and my football team ain't so hot.
Ok, I'm done bragging...for now. Let the Tater hating commence!!!
Good job guys on nobody quitting. Hopefully you all had fun and we can get the same great group back next year...so I can beat you all again.:stirthepot::pound:
Now...to focus my attention on hockey!:cheerlie-GOAL:

Well done Darth, you deserved it. Over 1 week there can be some luck but over 2 weeks there should be no doubt. Funny thing was, my pitchers had more wins and saves against roscoe in 1 week than the 2 weeks I played you. But that's how it goes. My batters were comprehensively thrashed.
That's my 2nd loss to you in a final. I can't be too upset I guess. It was my first baseball league and before the start of the season, I really didn't know anything about baseball. So anyway, I learnt a lot and hopefully my football team can get to the end as well.
Congrats to everyone who played. I enjoyed the league.

Thanks Webz. It was lots of fun. :)
I know what you mean. I got 14 steals the previous week against baseballers but only had 3 against you after about 10 or 11 days. I was tearing my hair out because I was worried about your pitching after what they did against Roscoe, so I figured I needed all the offensive categories.

Thanks Bill :) You know, we're both really lucky that jammer's squad was so decimated by injuries otherwise he'd have been the runaway champ.
Sounds about right to me. Jammer is clearly already the smartest and best looking GM in our league, fortunately his superior fantasy sports talents weren't able to fully show themselves.
I couldn't agree more!
Well said.
Truer words have never been spoken.
Amen.
Cheers mate!

Guys...guys...please stop fighting. I really don't want to get involved in this. It's hard to type when my finger nail polish is drying.
Anyhow, can we change the subject? This is a basketball forum after all...sooo...what do you fellas think of Dywane Wade's buns? I think Bill Walton was right on about him.
Oh, sorry Roscoe.

Who is going to run this thing?
Not me!!!!!!
(I'll be hockey commish again next year unless Super Pooper wants it back)...
Who will be the victim?? I'll help you pimp the league if you like. :)

I'll do it unless someone else really wants it. I'm due to get the #1 draft pick. I'll have to research how you guys fix these leagues....

WTG Bill. Don't ask me how to cheat. I got 10th (last) pick in Hockey.
Ask Jammer or Linwood

Congratulations Commissioner Lambs. It will be a breath of fresh air to have a baseball commissioner who is not corrupt for a change of pace.
I think last year went really well with the exception of a couple of Cannuckian malcontents that tried to move the league to the frozen tundra across the border. I say kick em' to the curb. Have a secret sign up or something. I'm just sayin'...

You guys have your little laugh. I don't have time for such nonsense. I'm already carefully planning my draft strategy :reading:to REPEAT as league champion, although I'm not sure I can win the division by 87 games again.:stirthepot:
The draft is tomorrow night, right?
Come on Bill...you're lagging! You've been commish for almost an hour (although you have absolutely no idea yet that you've been appointed Commish). :pound:Do something already.:bored:
