For the 10th straight year, The Gazette has researched and compiled a list of NBA coaching salaries. And for the seventh time in those 10 seasons, Phil Jackson is the league’s highest-paid coach.
Jackson’s $10.33 million average salary is well ahead of the second-place salary, Golden State’s Don Nelson $6.0 million-per-year. However, since there are no official reports of Miami coach Pat Riley’s coaching salary, it’s quite possible his listed $5.0 million average salary is actually higher than Nelson and even Jackson.

Interesting is that the White/Black ratio is 18/12 for head coaches, just as it last was in 2005, but the growth of wage rates has been faster for African American coaches than it has been for white coaches (between 2005 and 2007, omitting 2006).
