Save Our Sonics & Storm (http://rs6.net/tn.jsp?t=6yh897bab.0.uvgadxbab.n75x5wbab.138&ts=S0223&p=http%3A%2F%2Fsaveoursonics.org) e-mails: "Next Monday, 6pm the state legislature has scheduled what they expect to be the first and only open hearing on the Sonics arena. It is in Olympia, after a rush hour commute. The team has stated that it is absolutely the critical meeting to have attendance at. Of course the opposition managed to get it scheduled during a home game against Portland. We are still working out the details but wanted to give everyone as much notice as possible. SOS&S will be able to deliver lower bowl, if not suite tickets for an upcoming game to any member of this list, or their direct family/friends, whoever, who can commit to going. All who attend will be given a Save Our Sonics and Storm shirt to wear."

I have a couple of Save Our Sonics T-Shirts from going to the games. The Sonics aren't very good, but they do have Ray Allen, Rashard Lewis, and some young talent.

It's amazing the difference in attitude out here. Games are cheap. You can buy best available tickets for 15 bucks. You can walk down and sit in an empty seat damn near courtside without being hassled by an usher, because they are just happy to see people at the games.

I remember the Teal era Pistons being the same way. In fact, I went to a couple of RC era playoff games, and sat right behind the bench when angry fans left at halftime.

I wish that was the case here. I'd go to a lot more games if it was that easy.

Too bad the Pistons don't get out there much.

I remember that with the Pistons too. Except Vitale was the coach, lol. I got seats like that later too during Zekes first couple years.

Yeah, the thing that ticked me off was once they got good, prices soared and they started treating customers like crap. Oh well.

I hope you don't lost the Sonics.

I hope we don't lose the Sonics either. Best case scenerio right now is they relocate to Renton (not quite as far as Detroit/ Auburn Hills, but still a drive). Most likely, they move to OKC or another town willing to foot the bill.

If the Sonics leave, I may have to move to Portland. I'm not sure I could really settle into a town without a basketball team. Growing up in Kentucky, I had the Cats to cheer for.

Maybe I'll move to Idaho and become a serious fan of the Stampede.

I'm heading out to Oregon on Sunday and will be there for a few days. We'll see where the (potato) chips fall. We could be neighbors soon and we can catch some NBA action like we discussed. :)

Good luck in Oregon. I wish you could delay the trip until March 14th, because I have courtside seats to the Pistons/Blazers game.

You guys should be able to spot me on the local broadcast, because I will probably be the only guy in the expensive seats painted red and blue.

For me, they were free. I am going with a friend of mine who lives in Portland. He got the tickets from the owner of the company he works for. The guy is a season ticket holder who doesn't go to alot of the games because the Blazers suck.

The Blazers are like the Sonics, and the Teal Pistons. When the teams aren't that good, the resourceful can find good seats for cheap.

That being said, I would still rather have a winning team and local TV and radio coverage. The Sonics don't broadcast their games on local TV. No UPN 50 or WB20 games out here. They are all on the Fox cable channel.

The thing about that is when a good teams comes to town you sometimes get more cheers for the road team. I used to hate that.

Renton is coming hard and fast with a serious bid to build the new arena for the Sonics. Here is the town's FAQ regarding arena development. Most likely of interest to basketball fans in Washington State and fans who follow the business of the NBA.

If you are interested in the business of the NBA, this story has been fascinating. The local papers have been reporting on it almost daily, as the owners square off against a public nervous about paying more taxes. Good stuff, unless you are a basketball fan.
