I set up a private bracket on Yahoo for pf.com users.
Please join in on the fun. Everyone is welcome.
I hope I did it right...it seemed simple enough, but I'm not sure it works.
Anyhow just go to this page:
Yahoo! Sports (http://fantasysports.yahoo.com/)
and click the button for tournament pick em.
Once the brackets are chosen (Sunday night), you can fill in your teams.
I usually do well in this thing and never watch a college basketball game, so it's not like you gotta know anything about basketball to enter.
The tourney lasts two weeks and the computer tracks everyone's scores. There is no limit to how many people can join. I guarantee you it is fun.

Prize details
A new and unused copy of "The Sixth Man" by ESPN's Chris Palmer will be awarded to the highest finishing PF.com member with more than 10 posts at contest's end. Spam posts will be an automatic disqualification.
In the event of a two-way tie, I will tender a tie-breaking skill testing question. If there are several people tied, I will conduct a lottery.
Shipping paid by me, you must be willing to supply your name and address (privately) so that I can send the book.
Disclaimer: This prize has zero cash value (you cannot ask for the money instead). Roscoe36 and pistonsforum.com assumes no liability whatsoever.
In this astonishingly intimate portrait of the 20042005 NBA season, ESPN The Magazines Chris Palmer steps inside the closely guarded inner circles of five NBA stars to reveal the soul of the modern athlete.
Like a teammate without a jersey, he sets off on the ultimate road trip, exploring the spoils of wealth and fame with flashy champion Rip Hamilton of the Detroit Pistons, uncrowned superstar Tracy McGrady of the Houston Rockets, starry-eyed rookie Luol Deng of the Chicago Bulls, charismatic utility man Damon Jones of the Miami Heat, and straight-laced veteran Elton Brand of the Los Angeles Clippers.
By examining their lives on and off the court, Palmer reveals not only the private sides of the gods of the gameShaq, LeBron, Kobe but also the joys and fears, triumphs and failures inherent to anyone with the talent to play in The League.

I read a book called the Michigan Murders about a serial killer who stalked the Ann Arbor/ Ypsilanti area. At the time, I lived in Ypsilanti just a block away from where the killer lived in the 70's. It really creeped me out, because most of the places in the book (where the girls lived, worked, and were killed) are still there, so it was very real to me. :cold:

I honestly cannot name even ONE college player. Even on the Spartans. Most years I can name about three players total and I win the tourney a lot.

Only pf.com members, however, with 10 plus legitimate posts can win Micro's prize. (I've got over 2,ooo posts so I figure at least 15 must be considered legit)! :pound:
Please join. It's just for fun. Don't miss out becuase you feel you don't know anything. Nobody pays attention to anyone but the leaders anyhow.
If you need assistance, please PM me or ask here.
Hint: When filling out your brackets, click on the little symbol by the teams names. It gives you their record and tells you a little something about the team.
We currently have 18 people signed up. That's a very nice group, but the more the better. You can fill out your card in minutes. Even after it is complete you can change it up to the time the tournament starts.

This is the first time I've picked brackets beyond making my own private predictions round-by-round. I assume the PF contest is picking all brackets upfront, right down to the tournament winner.
Maybe this is a stupid question, but can we pick round-by-round to cover the previous round's mis-picks? Or if you screw up big time in the first round, you're just plain SCREWED...?
Another stupid question: Is there a yahoo link that gets me directly to the PF.com group brackets?
DOH!!! :tinfoil3:

Not stupid questions.
You pick all brackets up front BEFORE the tourney begins. You cannot change once the tourney begins. Also, the later rounds are worth more points than the first round, so if you mess up the early picks, if those teams were not slated to go very far, you still have a chance. For example, I think first round matches are one point each, while third round matches are four. Fourth round matches are 8...etc.
Yes. Once you've signed up, if you go to your yahoo sports page & click "Fantasy" in the top right corner, you'll find our group and your team name on the page. Just click it and you are there.
Was I clear? If not...please let me know.:)

Whoa, Darth, Texas A%M Corpus Christi over Wisconsin? Took some onions to pick that one! Aside from that, your bracket looks kind of boring.
I know I'm probably going to finish last anyway, but there are always some weird teams making it at least to the Sweet Sixteen, and if you can guess those right, you're in good shape. I have a UNLV-Winthrop showdown in the third round. Not because I particularly know anything about those teams, but just because I figured I needed at least one bizarro double-upset Sweet Sixteen matchup.
Of course, getting the Final Four as accurate as possible is really the key to winning with this scoring system.

Whoa, Butler over Florida, prof? Hmm. Actually, back in 2000, I had Butler upsetting Florida in the first round (it was a 12 vs. 5 game). Florida won it at the buzzer, on a crazy shot by Mike Miller, so I was right to have suspected that one as a possible upset, even though it fell just short of happening. BUT, Florida went on to make the national title game! Much to the chagrin of my bracket...
prof, it looks like you're hanging your hat on Louisville getting to the Final Four and Florida getting upset in the third round. If those two things happen, you'll probably have a good shot at winning it all again.

I had Oregon beating Memphis in the final, but only because I wanted Oregon to win. I changed it to North Carolina losing to UCLA. If Oregon wins somehow, I'm gonna kick myself.
I had a really tough time deciding between the BYU/Xavier matchup in the first round. I eventually stuck with BYU though.

Ah, so that explains it...LOL. I was always bad at it even when I did have a decent idea of what I was doing.
An interesting connection between Maryland and Davidson is that longtime Terps coach Lefty Driesell coached at Davidson before coming to Maryland. He even got Davidson to the Elite Eight one year, in the mid to late '60s.

Drisell also coached at Georgia State, when I did my masters degree there. The guy is a major di*k. I one time caught him in the hallway trying to get an injured player to come back and play sooner (before the guy was ready). Lefty was persistent, almost threatening. Totally messed up the guy's career, because he did come back earlier at Lefty's behest. They named the court at GSU after him. What a waste.
Lefty was our arch rival when I was in school. We used to have this great picture of his big old bald head with an empty gas gauge printed over it. There would usually be about thirty roles of kids behind the visitors' bench all holding the picture over their faces.

Stanford was a stupid move on my part, but I figured if they were lucky enough to get in that they might just win one.
Bobby Knight let me down. Yeah...he's a loudmouth jackass, but ya gotta admire the drill sergeant in the guy. He is Woody Hayes temperamental basketball equivalent. They broke the mold after those two guys...the likes of which will probably never be seen again in college sports. "They" being the media.

Glad to see everyone having fun with this.
Don't be so hard on yourselves for picking some upsets that didn't come through. It takes guts to pick upsets and you need to pick some to win and it's pretty much all luck.
I got BOMBED my first tourney, but learned a lot from it and usually do quite well even though my knowledge of college hoops is sub-zero.
Usually, about 26 of 32 right is good enough to lead after the first round. It depends on how many upsets there are. So far everything is going according to plan. That means tomorrow we will see a ton of upsets!
For those who haven't noticed, just click "view full standings" to see all the teams in our group.
Right now we are all bunched up. They usually update the standings every few hours, so we haven't received credit for every game yet.

My favorite incorrect picks of the first round so far: HQ picked upsets in both the Vandy-GW (6 vs. 11) and Washington St.-Oral Roberts (3 vs. 14) games in the East, which would have led to a GW-Oral Roberts 11 v. 14 game in the 2nd round. Final scores of those two games:
Vandy 77
GW 44
Washington St. 70
Oral Roberts 54

Man, talk about free chili...that was some of the worst defense ever, by both teams, in the last couple of minutes. Definitely a "last team with the ball wins" sort of finish all the way. Credit to the VCU point guard, though, that was a pretty clutch jumper he hit to win it. And he was driving through Duke's sieve-like D on each of the few possessions before that too.

Yes sir! Not really that huge an upset, actually. Lots of people had VCU winning. Generally speaking, that is...I'm not sure about our bracket challenge, though I'm sure at least a few other people there picked it too. As much as I love March Madness, it tends to bring out some of the dumbest sports fans alive in a bunch of places. There are SO MANY people who say the most ignorant things about how college ball is so much better than the NBA. The one-and-done excitement of the tournament is unbeatable, and I understand people who prefer that to the endless NBA season. But when you hear people talking about how much better the quality of play is in college, how they share the ball so much better, how they're trying hard every game while the pros always mail it in...don't get me started...:mad2:

Finshed the first found with 24 winners which is better than I did last year. Three of my losses were by 2 points each, VA Tech over the Illini, VCU over the Duke, and Zavier over BYU. Five of the losses were the result of me trying to go against the odds and pick the lower seeds in hopes of getting extra pts that no one else would have chosen.
Oh well fun first round and the good thing is that all of my brackets where the team lost, I already had them losing the second round so it didn't upset my sweet sixteen choices.
A couple of close games for Oregon and Wisconsin, which means that they may have been looking ahead to their potential sweet sixteen matchup next week. I think both teams were down 10-0 out of the block.

I hate ND football, but I don't care much about their hoops team. Winthrop had a great record and some tough losses against good teams, so they were a hot upset pick. I have them in the Sweet 16.
As for Duke-VCU, my hatred of Doooook knows no bounds, AND they kinda sucked and were overrated as a 6th seed, AND VCU was getting props from some people as a possible sleeper, so...perfect storm. Now they also need to get into the Sweet 16. :)
I always try to pick a decent number of upsets in the first round, which didn't materialize this year, but those two picks (Winthrop and VCU) were ones that I actually felt pretty good about when I picked them. Looks like UCLA is gonna screw me. Can't beat damn Florida. Looks like either dre or hq can win this thing now. I think the final game is a 32-point payoff so hq can come from way back and win.

Dang looks like my stay in first place will be for two days as I see Florida taking this one over OSU, so I am conceding early to my fellow CT and EMU brudda HQ. Good luck man
However if OSU does pull this out tomorrow, then I take this out victory!!

Congrats to HQ for overcoming his blood-red early rounds with a come from behind win on Final Four weekend. I ended up tied for fifth, not too bad.
Did anyone watch some of the post-game celebrations? I know that you have to cut 21/22-year-old guys some slack when they're that excited, but Noah, good lord...what a tool. He seems like 22 going on 12.

He didn't do anything outrageous, just yammering on about, "We gonna go on all night! And you know what I'm talkin' about!" or something like that. He sounded like an utter fool.
Though I have to admit to being a hata--not of his game, which certainly commands plenty of respect, but of his personality. When they played at Kentucky earlier this season, he dove out of bounds after a loose ball and landed right in front of the UK cheerleaders. When the whistle blew, they started waving their pom-poms like they always do, and one of them happened to be waving her poms right next to his face as he was getting up. And then he swung at her to swat her poms away, as if she was coming after him! Yeah, man, you show that 5'2" chick that she can't get all up in your grill.

Those cheerleaders can be pretty vicious, you know.:cheerleader::suspiciou
But IF I win the fantasy hockey championship, I'll prolly be jumping around the house like a fool too and I'm twice his age! :pound:

Congrats BroQ! Two weeks ago you were near the bottom, but pulled it off! :thumb[1]:
But I have to admit...I'm getting tired of UF winning everything. :P

Reminds me somewhat of how John Salley acted when the Bad Boys won their first, but not that toolish:nerd2:
Noah is one who should have come out last year ..even though his team did the back to back, he looked better last year than he did this year. Da half brotha can 't shoot!! Another Rodman in the making:MusicBigGrin: , but he will be a top 10 pick anyway
