I've been a diehard Lion's fan now for over 40 years. I find the Ford's extremely frustrating. When an organization is this bad for this long, there is only one person that can really take the blame. Ford himself. There are three things the Lions need to do to turn this franchise around. The first thing they need to do is to hire the best GM (capologist) in the league. After they identify who the most successful GM is (using many competent consultants), they go after him with a vengeance. Money not being an object. They must pay top dollar and then some to get this guy. The second thing they need to do is to get the best coach in the league. Again, this guy will not want to come to a loser organization without some serious sell. Top dollar times two may be necessary to get this man. If that's what it takes, do it. The third thing they must do is to have the best scouting team in the league. No doubt the best GM and coach will know who to hire for this. When these three things are completed, then we will soon have a championship in my opinion.

I would not replace Millen until I had one of the very best GM's on the line. No sense firing him just to replace him with an interim. But Millen must go. He's been here for 5 years and what did he do? He hired a head coach that has never been a head coach on ANY level. I could be wrong with this next phrase, but I don't think he was even a coordinator on any level. We don't need a GM or a coach that first needs to prove himself. We need a proven man. This franchise is a total joke. It's time to get serious and turn this thing around. Look at what the Tigers did within the last three years after they decided to get serious. Nobody wanted to come play for the Tigers. Now, many people do. Absolutely amazing what competent leaders can accomplish. This isn't rocket science. It's very easy to do. Just hire people who have proven they can win. Yes, you will have to open up the purse strings, but a winning coach knows he can win anywhere if he has the best GM and scouting team behind him, and the guarantee that he will be able to spend to get the best assistants.

The Tigers and the Wings have Ilitch...a guy that is determined to win...be it business or the business of sports...a self-made man...a thinker and a doer with creativity.

The Lions have the Ford's...heirs to old money...a silver spoon in their mouth since they were babes...and driving Henry's company and the Lions into the toilet. I equate them to spoiled brats.

FIRE THE FORD'S!!!

Ilitch didn't show much interest in the Tigers until the NHL instituted a salary cap.

I thought it happened because of the very embarrassing 119 losses that one season.

Here's my plan in two easy steps.

Step 1: Move the Lions to Windsor. Who knows, maybe they can compete in the CFL... they certainly can't do any worse than they have here. Fans have new hope for their team, and benefit from the favorable exchange rate on Molsons while they are at the game. Win/Win.

Step 2: Apply for an expansion team to play in Detroit in the former Ford Field (renamed after the new owners, maybe something like 50 Cent Field). After all, with new owners, new management, and a new outlook, perhaps the new team could compete. Win/Win.

This mention of the CFL reminds me of a Michigan professional football team that actually did win a championship:

Ilitch didn't show much interest in the Tigers until the NHL instituted a salary cap.Savy guy...don'tcha think? ;) Kinda proves he has more business sense than WCF.

Ilitch is 3-0 vs the Ford's in a much shorter time span and got the Tigers soooo close last year.

My point: Ilitch has a winning mentality...and the Ford's are only worried about who-gets-what when WCF finally receives his 'official' kickoff.

FIRE THE FORD'S!!!

All "fix the Lions" discussions start with...

FIRE FORD!

FIRE MATT!

Then we get down to the nitty gritty. :heh: :eyebrows:

More like Ford goes broke and sales the team to keep a roof over his head.

Matt is given a one way ticket and told not to miss his flight or Mr. Knuckles we be paying him a visit.

This is the only way this team will ever win again.

Matt Millen is not the problem. Matt Millen is a symptom of the problem. The problem runs deeper than Matt Millen. Yes, Matt Millen needs to be fired after the correct GM is located. Matt has only been here 6 years. What about the other 44 years? The common denominator is Ford. If he cares, and apparently he doesn't, he would go after the most competent GM out there. To solve the problem, we have to ask who hired Matt Millen? And that person needs to change his ways or he will continue to fail. Ford has proven he can fail. He needs to one of these years look in the mirror and own up to the real cause for the Lion problems.

Everyone in the NFL knows the Lions are a blackhole...sucking in all that come here, and spitting them out in atomized matter. The Fords could buy all the top-notched talent in the world...and turn that group into losers.

I'm glad Schlesinger got out of here with his work ethic and integrity to the game intact. I hope he writes a book one day...he's seen it all.

I have more respect for Barry Sanders every day.

The first step will be later this month when the Lions draft Quinn. Once you put him with Williams, Furrey and Backus and Foster learn how to block, the offense will start to show up. Bad move signing White though, he's not the pass rusher you need, regardless of how much he makes. You need a DE to go with Cory Redding. Then you're cooking with gas.
