The anticipated contract is finally done, in spite of what that loud mouthed moron Brett Hull had to say. (http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=200770402061) (never been a big fan)

So anyway, the deal is the longest in Red Wings history at 7 years, and between $6 and $7 million per season. Here is the link. (http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=200770406018)

Good move by the Wings here, the price may be a little steep in the beginning, but as it goes on, it will be a steal if he stays healthy.

Now let's not start that crap.

Let's just be happy he'll be a Wing for a while.

6 to 7 mil. I didn't think we'd see that big a number with the new contract.
Figured the top guys would get $4m at the most.

Anyone know the longest deal Yzerman ever signed? I'm guessing 5 years.

7 years at $6-7M is really going out there capspace-wise. I like Dats, but dat's VERY serious money considering his playoff history.

And I'm still kinda miffed the Wings dealt Jason Williams for Calder. Calder is -27 and Williams is +2 for the season with each having roughly the same other stats across the board. Good deal...NOT!!!

Calder is the type of player the Wings needed. He has unrealized upside. The guy is a potential 30+ goal scorer on the right line.

Williams never seemed to be able to reach his potential. We're talking about a player who has plateaued.

I think that is a lot of money for Dats as well, but bear in mind that if he has a few more seasons like this one in him, it's not a bad investment.

I'm just worried that the Wings may put there money into a couple of players and one injury could sidetrack the whole thing. Then again, building an "equal share" salary environment like the Pistons is easier said than done.

One day I will bone up on the NHL CBA. I'm sure it's interesting reading.

detteam, f4t 4 u.

Calder

Philadelphia, 59 games, -31
Detroit, 18 games, +4

Williams

Detroit, 57 games, +7
Chicago, 18 games, -5

Being PLUS probably has a lot to do with playing on one of the league's most talented defensive teams. :)

Yeah...I know the stats...Philly sucks. But Williams had a pretty good year in 05-06 & decent this year before the trade. Contrary to him plateauing, I felt he was just coming into his own...tough to do with all of Detroit's talent.

Calder may prove me wrong...I hope he does it in this years playoffs.

Well, if it eases your mind at all, pro-rate Calder's #s to 82 games and you have 55 points, +18. Williams had 58 points in 05/06 and a lower +/-.

Plus, Calder is a scorer.

I'm so amped to get a healthy Wings team into the playoffs. I think we can do some damage in the West.
