2nd Round Game 6 At Chicago May 17th,
ESPN (time) TBD
After the Pistons debacle called game 5, only God knows what to expect in this one. The Bulls will be raging with confidence and their crowd will be ready.
The Pistons better be ready to play, and not let the refs dictate their attitude. Which may be easier said than done. Or else, A GAME 7!

I know that there isn't much faith in our team right now but I do believe with our proverbial backs against the wall, the Pistons will match Chicago's energy. With that being said I think we will win in game 6. Will the real Detroit Pistons please stand up.

my sentiments exactly. i do believe that when both teams come to play, we are a enough better to win. but everyone's got to show up with effort and concentration for the full 48.
go pistons!
Pistons need to maintain competitive juices. They must make sure they don't fall behind by more than 6 points AT ANY TIME..........Keep the pressure on THEM. Put em away in the 4th........

If you believe in luck, trends or karma, then lets hope Steve Kerr is the color man on the ESPN telecast. The Pistons seem to respond and win, when he is the arena and he actually likes the Pistons. (We may need to suit him up for some 3 balls)

Oops, I have to correct myself. Steve Kerr is the color man with TNT and although he did a couple of games for the Pistons-Magic series, he is now doing the Western TNT games. So we may have to rely on homeboy Mike Tirico to call the game, but his home edge may be offset by Piston hater Hubie Brown

Great another entire ESPN broadcast of announcers talking about whoever is playing against DET.
We'll be lucky if they stop talking about the other team and their families and vacations and childhood snacks long enough to even give you our starting 5 let alone actually discuss anything we do during the game.

The game is also going to be on channel 20 locally.
The always talk about whatever team is ahead at the time. I could deal with it if not for those dang cutaways. They treat us as if we had the attention span of a 5 year old.
In this game Flip has to go away from the zone. Its not working anymore as it did in the 1st 2 games. Thats going to be the key. Flip was doing a great job making adjustments until this series. Its just leading to easy baskets at this point.

"Only the Detroit Pistons (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/teams/det/;_ylt=AtdGz5Knnub6kf.3ukEU0knqxLsF) could be on the verge of a fifth consecutive trip to the Eastern Conference finals (the definition of sustained excellence) and at risk of becoming the first team in NBA history to blow a 3-0 series lead (the definition of futile inconsistency) at the exact same time.
And, of course, not be excited or worried about any of it.
Maybe they are just that laidback. Or maybe they are just arrogant. Or just ignorant of anything outside their locker room, their own doings.
The Pistons are fascinatingly myopic, a confounding carefree team. Nothing rattles them. Not good nor bad; not fearsome foe nor overmatched one. They are more likely to win on the road down 3-1 in a series, than at home up 3-0".

The absolute key to this game is to keep it close (or have a large lead, I'm ok with that:)) in crunch time, because that is when we've seen Chicago's youth be their downfall.
Gotta keep it close then use our execution to get a slim lead and start the Chauncey/Rip FT contest and put the screws to them. The Bulls and their fans get anxious when the game is close in 2nd and 3rd let alone in crunch time.
Let's put these sob's away.

I believe it's the Piston's way of thumbing their collective noses at the rest of the NBA.........Most of our players had to ARRIVE here before they became recognized stars. Like Isiah did, they crave to be top ten players in the league, but instead, just draw attention to themselves with this style of play..............:stirthepot: :stirthepot: :frusty: :frusty: :pirates:

Agreed, 100%. Even in these last two games we have turned up the intensity in the 3rd and fourth quarters. In game 4 it wasn't enough, in game 5, it REALLY wasn't enough. If we can get to that point without being down by 20, we can put them away.

I'm in the middle of racing between dogsitting venues before the game starts so I can't find the link but Professor wrote the BEST article about this maddening quality of the Pistons. It made me feel so much better about this character defect of my favorite team. Maybe someone can find it and bump it up. I think it was in his original Dharma Cameleon article. Whew...now we can exhale. I'm proud of the way our guys stepped up in the second half. CB was big going to the basket in the second half after struggling in the first, Tay was enormous in the 4th quarter, and all three Pistons big men (Sheed, CWebb, Dice) were huge on the boards and on D in the second half. It was a true team effort to bring this one home. I had a pretty bad crisis of faith in this team after Game 5, and the terrible second quarter tonight kept me worried, but they showed great poise and teamwork in the second half.

Great win tonight! The boys really stepped it up despite some adverse *coughcrappyrefscough*conditions.
Sheed was a MONSTER tonight. He was EVERYWHERE on the court. Blocking shots, fighting through screens, controlling the glass, hitting huge shots, running his mouth.:tape2:
Tay just manhandled Deng.
Dice was all over the place, hustling like a mad man.
CB really took charge of the team when the game could have gotten out of hand.

Can somebody please tell me why we can`t play with such urgency and focus all the time!!
You could feel the hustle coming through your TV after each missed shot came off the rim. Sheed was perhaps the most active on defense since the post-Ben era.
Tay used Deng early and often. Hell, even Lindsey made a few timely jumpers and provided some pressure D, however, he had nothing to do with the win..........:)
Hopefully, the Pistons have learned their lesson about flipping a a switch in the playoffs - maybe not, didn`t this same thing happen last year??

The Piston grinding machine back in action. It is as it should be. The Pistons can only go as far as their defense.
We did what we were suppose to do. NO JUMP SHOTS RULE against this team. We made them drive into the bigs or trap them. They could not beat us with drives (no D wade there).
I hope that we learned that you cannot give games away late in the playoffs. We were tight early and the Bulls did get better.
I have been harping to anyone who would listen since last year's playoffs that Tay was a major offensive piece that we were not using well. How huge was his game?
How about the jumper late by Sheed at the free throw line? That is there all the time and we rarely go to it.
OK. Bring on the next NBA hype team (probably Le Bron) and those Stern refs. Sorry, Sheed's monster slam was beautiful basketball as was Dyss block of Nocioni.

I know the Pistons can't think this way, but in my opinion, its over. Get the ring sizes for the Pistons, cause they will go on to win it all.
Flip made some adjustments. Good ones. Both game to game, and in that 2nd half. Now mind you, why we did not guard PJ Brown a lot earlier in that 1st half is beyond me, but I will give it a shot. Hinrich had a horrible shooting game, and a lot of that was that we just never let him get into any kind of rhythm. Hinrich took a lot of well covered shots. He did miss an open one here and there too, but he did not get very open very often. Maybe keeping Hinrich cooled off was more important than shutting down PJ Brown, who matched his playoff career high, with 20 points all in the first half. In the 2nd half, we played up on him, with our bigs giving less help in the middle. PJ tried too much in the 2nd half, so rather than Chicago using the fact that we were leaving the middle more exposed, we had PJ thinking he was Jordan (Note his middle initial)-and it helped us out. Sorry PJ, you are not Jordan, we were just not guarding you.
Webber started out pretty darn bad. Could not rebound, could not score, and just looked slow. He did go inside a bit, and that did help. Him and Sheed both went inside in the first few minutes of the game. In the 3rd quarter, Webber managed to be much more effective. Still too slow, but he kept showing up in the right place, either for the rebound or to help out on D. Not a bad game overall for him, and he did have a nice pass or too.
We had been using Delfino all wrong in the past few games. So this time, he did not play but a couple of minutes-and I believe part of that was at guard if it matters any for such a short time. But since he was not playing in position, it was a good thing he did not play hardly at all this game.
Jason Maxiell did not play a whole lot, but he came in earlier, very early in the 2nd half, and really helped us keep up a solid defensive game. A nice offensive rebound too. Too bad he can't shoot free throws better, as that would earn him a lot more minutes.
The concept of effort showed up in one player big time tonite, Antonio McDyess. Man was he after the ball. His offense remains exactly what we don't need as he is just doing nothing inside, but man was he a crazy man after the ball tonite. If ever I saw some hunger of late, it was from Dyess.
In all, we had a bit less Webber, and a bit more Dyess and JMAX. Good adjustment.
Chicago had a pretty good offense going, but we consistently nailed our defensive rotations. This was made possible by another adjustment. Flip Murray did not play a minute. He gets lost on defensive rotations so it is a darn good thing he did not play. Not just for this series, but in the regular season games, Chicago routinely exploited Murray not knowing who to cover. Another fine adjustment.
I got to give Flip some credit for getting his team all on the same page to play the pick and rolls so much better tonite. It helps to have a savvy veteran team that can learn quickly. Webber is part of that. Yes, I still think it would have been a lot easier to simply start JMAX, a much better pick and roll defender, but hey, it worked.
The calls were bent toward Chicago some. However, we were taking quite a bit of time doing slow mo to look closely at the calls. In all, while Chicago did get more favorable calls, the game was called more the way the Pistons like, with a lot of contact allowed. Yes, Sheed traveled. Indeed, he traveled twice before they called it. And he yelled. Did he yell too much? Maybe. But you got to love his fire. And you got to love his tremendous D tonite, all those rebounds, and some good work inside. Even his three pointers taken were usually like you want, off inside play and a kickout to him. Ditto for CB. Just an outstanding game for Sheed.
Tay was the hero of this game though. Flat outplaying their star, and contributing exactly what we need, inside play. And he heated up big time on the boards in the 2nd half. Matter of fact, I bet we outrebounded Chicago by a ton in the 2nd half-anyone got a stat on that?
As much as we hated watching Ben miss free throws last year, just how much more did we love watching him struggle from the line tonight. Two key misses late in the game surely helped our cause. Thanks Ben.
I must comment on the boards tonite. Other than one idiot mucking up the board, and we all know who I am talking about, the fans here did a great job capturing this game. Thanks everyone (except you know who) for their comments. I love reading them. Over at Micro's place, everyone is in chat I guess-and no, I don't read the chat log before doing this report. Still some good comments about the game after the game was over.
CB shot poorly, but then was the hero at the free throw line, making every one tonite. Rip did not miss either at the line, and had a fine shooting game.
Hunter played well. Good D. Made a couple of critical shots. And most important, Flip did not play him too much. I did get just a bit nervous in the 4th, but Flip took Hunter out within a minute of when I thought Hunter was done for the nite. Hunter has had a horrible playoffs shooting the ball, but here is a shout out to him for making those two tonite when we really needed them.
One quick comment about the announcers. Yes, its painfully obvious they were rooting for Chicago. I don't mind, it makes the victory that much sweeter. We won in front of Chicago's home crowd. In front of hostile announcers, and in front of a couple of refs seemingly on Chicago's payroll. Great win. Onto the finals. (oh, well, there is a minor thing called the East finals first, a meer formality this year. Did I mentinon thats five in a row? Five straight trips to the East finals. Now that is doing a good job as a GM, and as an owner. I still got my gripes, but this run is something you see like once in a lifetime. (Well, the Wings kind of have had similar success even though not in five straight years like this. Wow.) GO PISTONS!!!!!

I was excited about the Pistons win tonight and went over to the Detroit News to read the comments there. I think it's been about 8 months or more since I last went into their forum.
Idiots. Freakin' idiots over there. I'd forgotten how bad it was. Honestly, I read through a good 50 posts and I don't think I saw even one that was insightful.
Cheers  to all of our posters.
Was Pnat still saying that the Pistons were a dumb team and the Bulls will score 110 pts and beat the Pistons in seven?:p

Good Leecap...
As much as we hated watching Ben miss free throws last year, just how much more did we love watching him struggle from the line tonight. Two key misses late in the game surely helped our cause. Thanks Ben"

One quick comment about the announcers. Yes, its painfully obvious they were rooting for Chicago. I don't mind, it makes the victory that much sweeter.
I dont think so Lee due to the fact that Tirico is big-time homer.

Yeah I think homeboy Mike Tirico really wanted a Piston victory, but with Hubie Brown by your side as your color man, even George Blaha would appear to be pulling for the Bulls:laugh:
I am very proud of the way the Pistons stepped up in the 2nd half and put this series away. Lot of reason not to do it with all the bad calls and whatnot but they got it done.
Looks like Skiles final adjustment was to run the ball up and take shots as quickly as possible. Could have backfired by causing them to rush and miss their shots and not be in a good position to rebound.
I watched the game on WB20. It was the final broadcast of the season. Blaha is moving over to radio for the rest of the post-season.

All I can say is it's about time they got serious and put their game face back on to stay. I was having relapses of last year.
And kudos to the X man!

Interesting comments about Webber by Rosen
FOX Sports on MSN - NBA - Wallace, Pistons rev it up in second half (http://msn.foxsports.com/nba/story/6823862)
"While Webber's numbers turned out to be halfway decent — 2-6 from the field, 9 rebounds, one assist on a brilliant drop pass to Rip Hamilton, zero turnovers, and 9 points — he was more of a hindrance than a help.
If he was eager to post up the much shorter Andris Nocioni, he wanted no part of trying to maneuver for a scoring opportunity against Ben Wallace (a catch and instantaneous pass-out was as close as he came to attacking Big Ben).
C-Webb missed an easy layup.
In defending Brown in the low post, he stumbled and fell slowly to the floor.
C-Webb missed another easy layup.
Rather than bang bodies when Big Ben posted him, he gingerly slapped at the ball and was happy to be called for a quick foul. Then he was cited for a lane violation as Wallace bricked a free throw. (Wallace also missed the bonus shot.)
He failed to box out Brown on several occasions.
He scored his only buckets on a tip-in and on a clumsy flip-shot from 10 feet in front of the hoop that banged hard off the glass before falling dead through the net.
He was late on the vast majority of his defensive rotations. No wonder Antonio McDyess played the entire fourth quarter while Webber assumed the one function that suited him best: Being a cheerleader from the bench".
Will Webber be better in the conference finals (without Ben)?

Against the Nets, probably. Again, defensively, he's not going to be matched up on a real post threat. Offensively, he can work on Collins, Boone, Uncle Cliffy, Mikki Moore, whoever. I would pencil him and Rasheed in for a minimum of 25 points a night, if they're not both in double figures every night against that group I would be embarrassed.
Against the Nets, I'm not so sure. Defensively he won't want to bang with Big Z, and Gooden has the quickness to really both him, as does Varejao. Of course, who then guards Rasheed? His value will be in his passing against that team.

No question. The Bulls high-energy fronting-the-post D really took him out of the series. Against Cleveland, he'll be facing the even slower-footer (than Webber) ilgauskas, so he should have a good series.
With the nets, it will depend on who guards him. I think he can take Mikki Moore, but Collins is a very good defender.

Then who will guard Sheed?
And Collins does it with Position and Power, which Webber can handle, unlike what Ben/Tyrus did to him.
And Webber can drag him to the mid/high post and dribble drive.

For the life of me I can't find a quote I've been searching for (I mean Lexis Nexis searching, not just googling). Anyway here is the paraphrase to the best of my memory:
Dumars reported having a sit-down with Rasheed after he traded for him. Dumars said he didn't want Rasheed to lose his passion while playing but drew a line in the sand. One technical, fine. But two techicals was crossing the line. Dumars said something like you can even dance on that line but we need you to not cross over it and get ejected.
Last night was the best dancing Sheed's ever done on that line and I'm not talking about cutting loose to Donna Summers' in the locker room.
I really love having a player on the team that everyone else loves to hate.

Great post Crastinator. I looked for the article but the web is a very temporary place.
Here is an NBA.com video that I liked.
