IMPORTANT!
Our first round of summer maintenance is scheduled for this Saturday (June 23). I am expecting no less than 6 hours of downtime to accomplish several important security updates, backup the forums and perform routine maintenance.
Expect the forum to be down between 6:00AM and 2:00PM, UTC/GMT -4.
Thanks in advance for your patience and understanding.

That's the gig my friend. A house is only as strong as it's foundation.
Thank you.

Today's scheduled downtime is now complete. Thanks for your patience and understanding while the board was unavailable.
Without getting too technical, the following work was accomplished.
Security Patches to the forum
Extensive Database maintenance
Upgrade of existing and removal of discontinued forum features
General cleanup of extraneous files
Complete rebuild of the "Similar Threads" listings to increase relevancy
Note:
No changes to usability should be evident however, members are always advised to click RELOAD/REFRESH on their browser when any maintenance is completed. This insures that the forum graphics and files in your browser cache are up to date.
An announcement about further maintenance will follow in the near future. This is going to be a busy offseason. :)

There will be an hour of scheduled downtime, Sunday June 24th between 8:30 and 10:00 AM.
I don't anticipate this will go as long as scheduled, however you should expect the forums to be unavailable during this period.
I apologize in advance for any inconvenience this may cause.

As an update, the forum clock has been out of whack for awhile. I have received numerous PMs about this, and we will attempt to get it fixed during the night of June 23rd/24th when forum traffic is at it's lowest.
Discussion on this and any other downtime topics can be made here

This afternoon, for approx. 1 hour, the forum was unavailable or offline. This was not a planned downtime.
What was originally though to be a network issue between the data center and the rest of the internet, turned out to also be a problem with our server itself.
After tech support ordered a manual reboot of the server, it appears we are back up and things are running well.
If you notice any issues, please PM me (http://www.pistonsforum.com/private.php?do=newpm&u=1).
Thanks for your patience and understanding.

Please read this post completely, it is very relevant to all frequent visitors and members.
Today's major forum upgrade is 95% complete and the most difficult challenges have been successfully crossed.
Some remaining cleanup and final touches are required and will be done over the next two weeks. These remaining issues are not considered mission critical at this time.
Known outstanding issues are,
The horizontal menu at the top of the forum is missing some functionality.
The individual post listings are missing some functionality. All visitors and members are advised to click REFRESH/RELOAD on their browsers to make sure they have the latest version of the forum files stored on their computer. You only have to do this once after an upgrade, and can do it on any forum page.
Please post any and all upgrade questions, problems or concerns here,
http://www.pistonsforum.com/feedback...iscussion.html (http://www.pistonsforum.com/feedback-suggestions/6922-2007-8-downtime-announcement-discussion.html)
Thank you for your patience. These intention behind these upgrades are to keep the forum secure and working as well as possible.

Some unplanned downtimes today. PF.com is drawing a large amount of traffic. We're watching this closely, and taking precautions to keep the forums up and available.

Possibly a little more downtime this evening, we're still chewing up a lot of memory, and I have asked our support team to investigate and as necessary, fix the issue.
Thanks for your support and patience!

This afternoon's two hours of downtime was unplanned.
At this time, we're not exactly certain where the problem lies, although slippy and I think it may be a DDoS (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Denial-of-service_attack) Attack. (Darko Denial of Service).
Sorry, a little bit of gallows humour there. :sssh:
Back to being serious, I've asked our support technicians to complete my request for a full system audit. Once that is done, hopefully we will have a better idea what exactly is causing the server to overload.
Thank you so much for your continued patience and support. We'll get this figured out as soon as possible.

I have temporarily disabled the forum's RSS and XML feeds, as there have been several spam blogs lifting our content and reposting it without credit.
I hope to be able to re-enable the system by early next week.
Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

Forgot to update that the RSS/XML feed has been re-enabled for some time now.
I need to loosely schedule some downtime this afternoon/evening for a settings change. Since I do not know exactly when it will be done, the forum may be down for 10~30 minutes sometime between 5:00 PM EST and 10:00 PM EST.
Hopefully everything is done very quickly, with little hassle.
Thanks in advance for being so patient.

It's come to my attention that there is a post server move issue with uploading files and avatars. I am working to correct this and hope to have it solved today. In the meantime, you may not be able to change your custom avatar to another custom avatar.
Thanks in advance for your patience and understanding.

Ok, I believe this is almost resolved. Or at least should be by tomorrow. We were missing a software package that does image processing.
I have made some modifications, and we should be able to use custom avatars again. You can PM me with any issues.
