Hey all,
Fantasy football sign up time is now.
Experience not necessary.
If you don’t really know people around here it’s a great way to meet everyone.
If you do know people around here, it’s a great way to get revenge on them (by crushing their teams to bits).
After you sign up, Jammertime will send you the password to join the league in a private message (this keeps out the riff raff not to mention any names) **cough cough...Linwood and Slippy**
Don’t be afraid to play fantasy sports just because you’ve never done it before. Football is the easiest fantasy sport to play (IMO) and everyone here loves helping people (because we can show off how much we THINK we know).
Besides if Roscoe36 joins you are guaranteed not to finish in last place. Plus he’ll trade you all of his good players for scrubs. Happens every time...every sport. Like clockwork.
More info to follow at a later date.
Sign up sheet:
1.Jammertime...He’s the Commissioner and soon to be former champion.
2. Webz...He thinks he signed up for soccer or rugby or something. He’s Australian and doesn’t know what “football”really is.
3. Darth Tater...I’m just here to irritate everyone and win the Super bowl.

Hey Darth, I noticed a spelling mistake in your post. I believe "former" is spelled "back2back".

TFD,
If there is a chance your computer may fizzle out maybe you can give Jammertime advance permission to adjust your lineups for that week if he notices on a Saturday night or Sunday morning that you have open spaces due to bye weeks or injuries.
I'll help him keep an eye out for it if we don't see you around. (But if you are playing my team I won't happen to notice, of course:gun1:)
Just let us know.

We'll be going with either a 10 or 12 team league, depending on interest. So we either have 3 or 5 spots left.:football:

Aurora,
The regular season starts in early September and we'll be having a live draft 1-3 weeks before then. So if you have it by early to mid August, you'll be golden.
Because I'm only sending the league info by PM, you won't have to worry about losing your spot if you don't create your team right away. This thread is the official sign-up thread, so you're officially in. You're lucky #8. Welcome aboard.

I've never done this before, so . . I guess I'm in. I'm pretty concerned about my strange, tumultuously unpredictable schedule-- okay, it's not that bad. It's still unpredictable at times. I just hope I don't mess with the draft. Not sure how you do these things.

Once everyone has signed up, I'll start a separate thread with a poll that will allow us to vote on a draft date and time. The draft itself won't be until mid to late August, so we'll have plenty of time to find the best time.
Our participants span several time zones and continents, so we may not be able to find a time that can accommodate everyone, but we'll do our best.
If you can't participate in the live draft, Yahoo has a pre-set ranking system of each player, and the system will automatically draft the highest rated player available when it is your turn to draft. You can also edit the pre-ranked players as you wish, by moving players up, down or completely off the list based on your personal preferences, injuries, needs, etc.
Darth and I will post more details as we get closer, ranging from our league settings to helpful hints for beginners. We want the league to be fun for everyone from established fantasy sports veterans to first time rookies.

Cool. Welcome aboard.
OK, the draft. Well we are doing a live draft. So we are all in a "chat/draft room". If you can't make it the computer will draft for you. There are pre set computer ranks, but lets say you hate Randy Moss who is ranked 20th or whatever. You can take him off your list or move him down your list. I think the list becomes available as soon as you sign up for the league, so you've got a couple months to research if you like.
Fantasy football was my first ever fantasy league.Plus it was a money league (which I don't like) with veterans. I actually won it as a rookie and I knew nothing about the players prior to the draft, but invested 5 bucks in a magazine that gave all kinds of draft info and tips. But you can just get info online too, or as I said, just go with the computer picks.
However, in football, a week before the draft, check around and make sure you aren't drafting some guy who is out for the season. The computer settings are made in advance & I don't think they adjust them.
As far as your schedule, football games are almost always on Sunday (occassionally a Thursday gamme). So set your lineup on Wednesday or whatever, and you are all set for the week.
PLEASE...ask lots of questions. You'll catch on fast, but as a new player it looks a tad crazy at first, but it is easy. Honest. But ask us. PLEASE. Even stuff you think is very basic. Check the cafe out (addy below). They actually have a forum for new players where people answer some basics.
If you like, i can give you a couple websites like this:
Fantasy Football Cafe 2007 (http://www.fantasyfootballcafe.com/)
Fantasy Football - USATODAY.com (http://fantasyfootball.usatoday.com/content/homesport.asp?sport=NFL)
There are lots of good ones.
Again, please ask questions. I promise somebody will answer them to the best of their ability. You can put as much or as little time into it as you like. Maybe Jammer & I can come up with a guide or something like we've had for baseball, basketball, and hockey. We don't have a football one yet, but it's all basically the same.

I played Fantasy Football every year. I use to fantasize about the Lion's making it to the Super Bowl. About 10 years later I started fantasizing about them making the playoffs. Then 20 years after that, I started fantasizing about them getting to 500. Now my fantasy button no longer works. I can no longer fantasize about football. My mind is too numb to fantasize anymore.

The draft order is randomly selected by Yahoo just before the draft. No one knows the order - including me - until draft time.
Every year someone new usually leads the league in points. Last year it was LT, but in year's past it has been Payton Manning, Priest Holmes, etc. Having said that, I sure hope I get the first pick so I can grab LT! I had him last year with the THIRD overall pick. Larry Johnson and Payton Manning went 1-2. I won the league.

Yeah Woody. A computer picked my baseball team and I did really well, although I went over the list first and made some changes.
I actually think the computer does better in some cases, although in football with everyone else picking live, it might be tricky so if you can be there I think you should.
If the comp picks for you, go through the list first to look for injuries and people like Michael Vick who may not play or you'll be screwed.

If you are planning on attending the draft but would like Yahoo to automatically pick for you, I'd suggest that you set your status as "away". Otherwise, Yahoo will wait the fill 90 seconds before picking for you. It will just help to speed up the draft. If there is a player that you really want to pick, you can still change your status and manually pick if you'd like.

Nice to know the order is random.
My point is, there are 3 to 4 QBs that will throw ~30 TD passes.
Only 1 RB will score 25 plus TDs. The next best will be in the 15 to 16 range.

I'm partial to the Chargers in football, but I won't be getting my boy anyhow so I'll need to find another team.
Hmmm...
Any chance the draft order can be set now? I'd kind of like to work out my strategy for the draft. Knowing only 20 minutes prior kind of puts the pressue on.

I believe the setting of draft order 30 minutes before the draft is a Yahoo thing that cannot be modified.....and, even if it could be modified, Jammer would have to figure out how to do it....

Sorry everyone, your odds of winning this league just plummeted like Countrywide's stock yesterday.

You should fear the commissioner. You know what they say about absolute power....

You have to join the league first. As of right now, Oz has a bye in week one. Actions speak louder than words...

Aurora's Agent: Aurora has a brief statement to read before she takes questions.
Aurora: It was always my intention to fulfill the commitment I made when I signed up for Pf.com Fantasy Football. Contrary to rumours spread by casual Internet fans and some of the assembled media in this room, I did not take my position lightly then nor do I at this moment. That said, organizational limitations...may I be specific here?...(sound of grunt of assent in the pressroom)...lack of 24/7 access to a dependable computer for the duration of the fantasy football season stands between me and certain dominance of this League. Never did I ever think in my most vivid nightmares that this would come to be. I can only hope to obtain the technical support I need by Pf.com Fantasy Basketball season.
Agent: Questions? Aurora will take 2 questions with 1 follow up. And don't get sneaky trying to ask two questions in one. We're on to that.
Aurora: This is a painful moment and I don't know how much longer I can keep my composure. I will always rue the day when I kicked my computer right in the kisser and broke it. All over a very lame Playoff Basketball League that wasn't even Pf.com approved.
Aurora's Lawyer: I would like to interject that Aurora has undertaken Anger Management classes since then and also is on an anti-anxiety medication. When she was trying to pick up a free agent right before midnite and the computer was not functioning quickly enough...well, these things happen. I don't think she will endanger any of her future fantasy franchises in that way specifically again. Specifically. Thank you.
Besides my son, Aurora was the only other person I was worried about....:stirthepot:
As well you should have been, my man. :gun1:I must say you do have very good taste in both avatar and user name. Godspeed.
