I can't believe Minnesota would trade him for a bunch of nobody's. Kevin McKale must be trying to rebuild Boston. Watch out for Boston next year. Minny gets Al Jefferson, Ryan Gomes, Bassy Telfair, Gerald Green, Theo Ratliff, and a 2009 lottery protected pick
Thanks for posting that.
Looks like they are going to do it. That deal fell through a could of months ago when Garnett informed the Celts that he would not re-sign with them when his contract was up.
Looks like getting Ray Allen changed his mind. There was a method to the madness afterall.
Granett, Allen and Pierce on the same team?
NBA.com Source: Celtics, Wolves Agree to Send Garnett to Boston (http://www.nba.com/nba_news/Garnett_Celtics_070730.html)
Garnett, 31, has spent all of his 12 NBA seasons with Minnesota. He would get an extension of his contract, which has one year plus an option year remaining, the official said.
The Celtics had tried to get Garnett late last month, but his agent said he didn't want to go to Boston. Since then, Boston acquired seven-time All-Star guard Ray Allen (http://www.nba.com/playerfile/ray_allen/index.html) from Seattle in a draft day deal. Already with Paul Pierce (http://www.nba.com/playerfile/paul_pierce/index.html), the Celtics would become instant contenders in the Atlantic Division with Garnett, even without promising forward Jefferson.

Garnett and Pierce are above average defenders. Actually they are very good defenders.

I have a feeling that the people who think Boston is now a serious challenger in the East are the same ones that thought that Denver would be serious challenger in the West after they got AI.
AI can in addition to being able to score, at least pass for assists, which he does pretty darn good, but Boston has three guys being used to being the #1 option on their respective teams and no one of ability and NBA experience to get them the ball who will want to . Ray Allen is a shoot first and shoot second guard. Kobe actually had more assists per game last year than Allen did.
Does anyone think that at his age he is going to change his playing style? Three #1 options,, all of whom are over 30 years old and none of whom have ever won an NBA title, along with no decent point guard with NBA experience and no bench, is not exactly what I would call the makings of a serious contending team, especially when the rest of the squad could be in the D league.
The Celtics evidently think that Rondo or Pruitt can run the point and feed their 3 #1 options. Good luck.
This trade will improve the T-Wolves more than it will the Celtics

Reminds me of that three All Star team from the West a few years ago. They had Kevin Garnett, Sam Cassell, and Latrell Spreewell.

Yeah, and the only thing standing between them and victory was Flip Saunders.

That is not correct. They would definitely have beaten the Lakers and gotten to the NBA finals and maybe even won it all that year if Cassell hadn't lost the effective use of one of his legs. Even without Cassell they almost beat the Lakers

The pressure is on Danny Ainge and Doc Rivers. They have the "Big 3" in place now..the modern version of Bird, McHale and Parrish. Ainge has some holes to fill and Doc has to make this whole thing work.
Remember when the T-Wolves got their Big 3 it took a while for the chemistry to form.
McHale, on the other hand...does he does realize that he's not still employed by the Celtics?

That's hardly the case as MIN won game 5 sans Cassell and only lost game 6 because, as we've seen in a Saunders defense, they failed to cover open shooters and keep Kareem Rush, of all people, from hitting 6...not 1, or 2, or 3, but SIX three pointers.
But, in an effort to NOT hijack this thread, I think it does a hell of a lot to make BOS a contender. I'm not one of those who thought DEN would be a contender with Iverson because AI has never made a team a contender "by himself" and Caramello hasn't done anything for DEN's chances since he's been there.
With those 3 on the court, BOS will definitely be more effective than NJ and able to actually do some damage once they finally get used to playing together.

I did not think AI was going to make Denver a serious contender, even though he is my favorite player.
I would not even compare the two trios of Boston and Minnesota. Ray Allen and Paul Pierce are way better than Cassell and Sprewell. Boston is very weak after KG, Pierce, and Allen though.
As far as Flip goes he is not a good defensive coach, and he is not demanding. That my friends puts him in the soft coaches list.
