ESPN - Well-traveled F Barnes re-signs with Warriors - NBA (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2963832)

Forward Matt Barnes (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?statsId=3643) re-signed with the Golden State Warriors (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/clubhouse?team=gsw) on Monday, agreeing to a one-year deal after enjoying his best NBA season with the club last year.

Barnes, a four-year veteran who has played for five teams, had career-best averages of 9.8 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.1 assists last season in coach Don Nelson's uptempo offense.
He also made headlines with his energetic play, a mohawk haircut and a tattoo reading "Believe" -- especially while the Warriors upset top-seeded Dallas and advanced to the second round of the playoffs.
Barnes shopped his services to several teams as a free agent, but couldn't find a lucrative deal despite changing agents twice. His contract with Golden State is expected to be worth slightly more than $3 million -- the remainder of the Warriors' mid-level salary cap exemption.

He'll probably have a good year and end up signing a good contract after the season...but some of the guys who signed fairly lucrative deals seem less talented than him. I'm thinking a guy like Jason Kapono...basically one one dimensional player...got a decent deal....why couldn't Barnes?

I'm kinda thinking Barnes is in the Flip Murray class. They can score and look ok in the scoresheet. Kapono is in the Dell Curry class. One dimensional, yes, but that one dimension is gold.

OK. How about Matt Carroll signing a 6 year 27 million dollar contract? Seems to me he played well against us the two times I saw him last year but Barnes has to be comparable to him?

Lot of talk about Barnes is that he's prospered in that run-n-gun system. I wonder what would he look like in the structured environment like SA.

A shooter can spread the floor making it easier for your key guys to score.

My guess is that he wouldn't look too good playing for anyone other than Nellie. I'm just not impressed with his game. He's scrappy, but can't really defend. He's only a decent shooter. There's a reason nobody offered him a contract.
