View Full Version : "real" reason Yi Jianlian is balking at playing in Milwaukee

Said Ma Jian, a former Chinese basketball star: "Of course, definitely, CBA (Chinese Basketball Association) and Yi’s agents would prefer that he play in cities with large Chinese population. It will benefit both CBA and Yi; it will help promotion. And it will guarantee him better restaurants and perhaps better looking Chinese girlfriend."

Despite perceptions and reports, Yi’s selection by the Milwaukee Bucks placed the young Chinese basketball player in a “vibrant” Chinese community with a history that dates back nearly 200 years.
“We want to make sure people in China and around the world understands there is a sizable Chinese community here, and we want people to realize that Milwaukee is a great town,” said Wenbin Yuan, who was born in China but has lived in the Milwaukee area for the last 17 years. “We want to give the message to Yi that there is a vibrant Chinese community here and that the community here is very passionate about him coming.”

Milwaukee's Chinese Community Wants Yi Jianlian
David Marcus
Brian Wang has been living in Milwaukee for more than two decades, helping run his family's restaurant, Yen Ching. But he's also an NBA fan. Wang wants Chinese Basketball superstar Yi Jianlian to sign with the Bucks.
"As a Chinese American living in Milwaukee, having a guy like Yi come to Milwaukee would be a tremendous thing for our community."
But the issue is community. Yi's representatives want their client to come to a city with a large Chinese population.
"Obviously the Chinese population here is small, so we won't be able to fill the stands. But the excitement and enthusiasm will be equal to any larger city," says Wang.

America has had a too long history of ignorant racism. People like Yi Yianlian shouldn't even be allowed work visas in the U.S..

I kinda sympathize with Yi after reading that. I mean, who wouldn't want a better looking girlfriend? Although I suppose it is kinda a slap in the face of the Milwaukee Chinese community that they may not have produced a beauty worthy of Yi.

Yi likely will have plenty of young Chinese groupies to chose from on the road when he visits all of these cities with so called big Chinese populations. I highly doubt he is going to have a problem in that category. LOL!!!

If you got time to make a match.com profile for someone, don't waste it on a millionaire.
My name is roscoe. I like long walks on moonlit beaches and breezy spring days. My favorite food is pretty much anything that contains meat. I try to shave 3 times a week, so hygiene is important to me, and I haven't gone bald yet, but because I am a planner, I've already started shaving my head so no one in my family is shocked when that happens.
I'm looking for anyone who will put up with me, take care of me, and let me do whatever I want. Looks aren't important, because I spend more time staring at my computer screen than anything else, so I won't really notice if my lady is looking fine or just dressing casual. The ideal match for me would be someone who can get food stains out of my clothing, and isn't irritated by snoring.
If you need any more info, PM me.

Yao Ming married a lady from China.
http://bp2.blogger.com/_ERGrznxTIwo/RrfyifWM2pI/AAAAAAAAFro/jywzlkHOP28/s400/Yao+Ming+Wedding+Ceremony+Photo+with+Ye+Li.jpg
On August 6, one of China's most eligible bachelors, basketball star Yao Ming, married his long-term girlfriend, Ye Li, at a closely guarded private ceremony at a luxury hotel in their hometown Shanghai. They received their marriage certificate in the Civil Affairs Bureau at Shanghai's Xuhui District August 3.
The 2.26-meter Houston Rockets center and his 1.90-meter bride celebrated their wedding at a Chinese-style ceremony at the Pudong Shangri-La hotel (see the picture below taken by my honey in 2005, click to enlarge it (http://bp1.blogger.com/_xXB7CTdjxkU/Rrf6GR0H_EI/AAAAAAAAALw/JuJS-z46hwU/s1600-h/Yao+Ming+wedding+at+Shanghai+Pudong+Shangri-La+hotel.jpg)) in the city's financial district.
The three-hour ceremony was attended by more than 70 family members and only invited home and abroad journalist allowed to take pictures. In the beginning of this month, Yao and Ye were spotted secretly taking wedding photos (http://fisherwy.blogspot.com/2007/08/wedding-photos-of-houston-rocket-yao.html) at scenic at Tai Huyuan Resort in Lin An city of Zhejiang Province.
The wedding ceremony took place in the Shangri-La's China Hall from 6pm to 8:50pm.
At the ceremony, Yao and his bride were accompanied on the red carpet by groomsman Shen Wei, a former teammate of Yao, and a bridesmaid who is a cousin of Ye. The newlyweds wore wedding rings each giving to the other and thanked their parents for giving them life.
The wedding banquet featured nine tables holding eight guests each. The food on each table was valued at about 12,300 yuan (US$1,580). The dishes were all Chinese cuisine cooked by the hotel's chefs. It was very sure that the most delicious shark fin soup (on Chinese cuisine menu) wouldn't be on the table, since Yao joined a campaign to promote wildlife protection and pledged to give up eating it in 2006.
Congrats to Yao, you together with our Shanghai'sLiu Xiang (http://fisherwy.blogspot.com/2007/05/liu-xiang-most-popular-athlete-in-china.html) will be my eternal idols!
Yi has a better chance of finding a suitable mate from the selection in China.
During the basketball season how much social time is the guy going to have? If he doesn't like the Chinese food in Milwaukee he will have enough money to hire his own personal cook who I am sure he can get fairly inexpensively if he brings the cook to the U.S. from China.

The photo is of the back entrance of this excellent brewpub. If you have a boat on the Milwaukee River, you can pull up to a small dock under the banner and head into the Milwaukee Ale House for a beer. The bar is decorated with mugs hanging all over and has a rotating cask ale special that is usually well maintained and presented. We enjoyed these house brews: Downtown Lites Honey Ale (wheat and Wisconsin honey), Session Ale (very light and drinkable), Solomon Juneau (golden ale with Saaz hops), Pull Chain Pail Ale (Cascade and Kent Goldings hops), Sheepshead Stout (made with nine malts), and Louie's Demise (malty amber beer with floral German hops and dark toast hints).

My second wife wouldn't be caught dead in the Hollywood Hills or the Ozarks. She lives in the Middle East.

I assume you eat eggs. If you don't think that there is blood in eggs you are sadly mistaken. Not cow blood but chicken blood if you are eating chicken eggs, which is what most eggs are that are sold in the U.S.
Ever eat a medium rare meat of anything with a soup entree. That is soup with most likely cow blood running through it, unless the meat was pig meat or some delicacy like rattle snake meat.

Besides, Yi can try to live wherever he wants to, it doesn't make him a racist. If I lived in China, I would rather live in Shenzhen, Beijing or Shanghai than other cities that don't offer as much connection to American culture, but that doesn't mean I have no interest in Chinese culture or that I am "obviously" a racist. When a person turn's down over $1 million dollars a year because he wants to live and socialize with people of his own race and a location can't give him that, that makes him/her a racist.
he adjective racist has 2 meanings:
Meaning #1 (http://www.answers.com/topic/racist-1): based on racial intolerance
Meaning #2 (http://www.answers.com/topic/racist-antiblack-anti-semitic-anti-semite-a): discriminatory especially on the basis of race or religion
Yi Jianlian wants to live in a community with a large enough Chinese population. Why, so he has a big enough universe of people to meet his social and other needs without having to spend time with non-Chinese. This is a racist, plane and simple.
A person who voluntarily hides in community of one race, is just as much a racist as a person who forces people of a race to live in certain area, like a ghetto. There is absolutely no difference. They are both discriminating based upon race.
I realize that it is not politically correct to call anyone other than a pink skin a racist, but I don't follow those rules. I call em as I see him.

Your own comments are the ones that sound a little bigoted.
You are darn tooten I am bigoted. Bigoted against racists and people who want to shelter themselves in segregated communities, where outsiders are not welcome.
Its one thing to be stuck in a community and not be able to leave because of lack of money or other reasons. That is very unfortunate and way too many times tragic and not being racist. When a family can't manage to get out of a tough and dangerous community because of lack of funds or other reasons and one of those family members falls victim to gang warfare or similar things that is a terrible tragedy and a left over from too many years of racism in this country.
But when a person or family says that I am going to live only in a place where people of my race are in enough of a majority even though I can live freely in a diverse community of people from many different races and religions, that is being racist.
Should the law prevent them from making this choice? Of course not because reverse racism does not affect others as does the more talked about form racism which restricts by action or law the rights and freedoms of others.
People should live their lives integrated with all kinds of people of different races and religions and not cloistered away among only people of the same race or religion whether they are forced to do or do it by choice.
Why, because it cuts down on people being suspicious of those that are different and helps people of different races and religions to come to understand each other and get along better.
