NBA referees will be able to use instant replay to review altercations and some flagrant fouls starting this season.
The NBA Board of Governors voted last week to approve the changes recommended by the league's Competition Committee.
Officials will be allowed to use replay on the more severe type of flagrant foul, known as the penalty 2. Because a flagrant-2 results in an ejection, the committee ruled that reviewing such infractions was appropriate.
Referees also will be able to use replay after an altercation to ensure that no punches or other unsportsmanlike actions are missed in determining penalties.

It's too bad they didn't have this in the 80s. Maybe someone would have caught Celtics Coach KC Jones punching Bill Laimbeer in a scrum at the Boston Garden.

This could turn out almost as exciting as the NHL.'

:hoops:

I think it was in 87. Lambs had gotten mixed up with Bird who took a swing at him. Then Parrish went for more payback later, punching Laimbeer in the back of the head. Then at one point in the series, the Celts Coach, KC Jones got involved in a fray and took a shot at Laimbeer.

I remember because in this Pistons book I have, there is a photo of a Celts fan in the Garden with a homemade poster that had Bird, Parrish and Joneses faces on it next to a ? mark, with the title, "Who is gunna punch Laimbeer next?".

Do you guys remember when Celtics fans would wear baby bonnets and Laimbeer crybaby shirts? In the new politically correct, competitively neutered NBA, we'll never see a series or rivalry with that much passion again.

That was just as the team was feeling its oats. Boston knew what was coming.

Its a start. Next up I would love to see them get rid of that Zero tolerance tech rule.

My question here is who is watching the watcher? Last time I checked one of the watcher/ref was playing Vegas.
