FOX Sports on MSN - NBA - Marion asking Suns for trade (http://msn.foxsports.com/nba/story/7266426?MSNHPHMA)

Shawn Marion is sick of the trade rumors. So now he's making a trade request.

The forward told the Arizona Republic he wants out, saying "I'm tired of hearing my name in trades. I love my fans in Phoenix but I think it's time for me to move on."

There have been rumors swirling of a trade to the Jazz or the Lakers, while Marion has pushed the team for an extension of his current deal. He is the team's highest-paid player, due $16.4 million for this year and $17.8 million next.
He's said to have been seeking a three-year extension at $20 million per, but he says a conflict over an extension is only "part of why" he wants out. "Regardless of everything that went on with the extension, I'm tired of hearing my name in trade rumors. It's time for me to move on. I felt like they tried to force my hand to Boston with the (Kevin) Garnett stuff," Marion told the paper.

So, do the Pistons have any interest?

Wouldn't Kirilenko be a good fit for the Suns?

A great fit if you ask me. I think Marion wants to play with "good friend Kobe Bryant."

Marion to Lakes
Odom to Jazz
AK to Suns

...and it even works.

Maybe Marion thinks Grant Hill will take some of his minutes?

Anybody have any thoughts of how Shawn would look in a Piston uniform and who besides Tay would we have to give up? I know Tay plays better defense that Marion, but I like the Tay vs Shawn scenario better than the AK47 for Tay trade proposal thread. :stirthepot:

Marion played an awful lot of 4 when Amare was down. A front line of Tay, Marion, and Sheed at center is pretty interesting.

Have to give up Rip and Nazr.

Besides having to give up Rip, which is most likely not going to happen, that is going to slow down development of J-Max and AJ since it will eat heavily into their playing time. Basically, you're bringing in another guy who'll take at least 30 minutes of bigs playing time. If he and Sheed average 30 mins and Dyess with 20, that leaves 16 minutes for J-Max and AJ. Probably not going to work well. And that also leaves us with a hole at SG.

Actually my proposal was replacing Tay with Marion since some considered doing the same with Krelinko. We keep Rip and send Tay, Nazr and flip jr.....and keep our yunguns..

At the risk of getting rotten eggs thrown at me.

I thought a picture of real rotten eggs would be a bit gross.

I would suggest Nazr and Dupree for C. Wilcox. He is making $6.5 this year and $6.75 next year (his last under his current contract) vs Nazr who will be making $5.6 this year and $6.0 next year. Throw Dupree in the deal. He will be making $.8 this year and the total salaries match up pretty close.

Heck I would even throw in a second round draft pick.

I doubt though that the Sonics would do this deal, so it is more dreaming on my part.

Basically, I love these "we give up nothing and the other team gives us one of their best players"- but they're getting a bit old. JoeD should hire a private eye to have a pressurizing medium so that other GM's finally do these "nothing for a good player"- deals.

You forgot the 2nd round draft choice.

In one of the interviews that Dumars did leading up to the draft, he seemed to be revealing that the Suns were demanding a king's ransom for Marion. He couldn't be specific about the details, but it seemed to me that he was describing a potential trade where the Suns' stated price for Marion from the Pistons would be two of Detroit's four core starters, PLUS both of the '07 first round picks that the Pistons had. Joe mentioned it as an example of a ridiculously high price for a deal that he would never make.

That's what he was saying in the WDFN interview. It is beyond ridiculous in my opinion.

A longer look at Marion's situation:
SI.com - Writers - Jack McCallum: Making sense of Marion's complicated situation - Thursday September 27, 2007 1:27PM (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/writers/jack_mccallum/09/27/marion/)

There are few more perplexing NBA personalities than Shawn Marion. Even after spending the entire 2005-06 season with Marion's Phoenix Suns for a book (http://www.amazon.com/Seven-Seconds-Less-Season-Phoenix/dp/0743298136/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2/105-1852610-6652455?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1190898906&sr=8-2), I still find him a difficult guy to understand. Every question that arises about him only raises more questions.
I had lots of room to deal with the Marion paradox in the book and probably still didn't get it answered. But it's more relevant than ever right now because the Matrix has officially asked to be traded. SI.com colleague Marty Burns runs through the various possible trade scenarios (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/writers/marty_burns/09/26/marion/index.html) in another space, so this is more about the complicated landscape that surrounds Marion and the only NBA team for which he's ever played.
Herewith, some questions and some answers. Whether it's all of them, I can't say.

Marion epitomizes selfishness in sports - Sports (http://media.www.universitychronicle.com/media/storage/paper231/news/2007/10/04/Sports/Marion.Epitomizes.Selfishness.In.Sports-3015536.shtml)

I can say with firm assurance that I don't know a great deal about Phoenix Suns forward Shawn Marion as a person.

I have never met him, I don't have him as friend on Facebook and unless he takes leisurely trips to Minnesota, I probably haven't seen him driving down the street anywhere.

However, based on his actions recently, I can deduce this much about the four-time All Star: he's a selfish man who values his own image over the success of his team.
