I am saddened by Shaq and Wade's marriage trouble. I just wonder how much does personal issues such as divorce, family illness, etc. affect the play on the court. Shaq has always been known as a womanizer and phony, but Wade has been portrayed as a religious family man. Professional athletes should stay single as long as possible. Too many temptations. The Heat's roster is full of holes and now the two most important players are going through breakups and the media hasn't even gotten started. I didn't know anything about Wade's extra-marital plays until I read it yesterday on ybf.com (http://www.ybf.com).

but Wade has been portrayed as a religious family man.
According to one of Siohvaughn’s close friends, the young mother of 2 and her NBA husband have decided to step back and take a break in the marriage. The friend told MediaTakeOut.com, “They’ve been together for a long time and I think Dwayne was starting to feel like he needed some space … They decided that it’s best to give him that space.”
Dwyane Wade and Siohvaughn Funches have known each other since attending the same high school. They dated exclusively and lived together during college. They married 5 years ago, while Dwyane was a college senior. They have two children who will stay with Siohvaughn.
It appears that they did not live together until after they were married.
In February 2002, the couple were married, and at the beginning of Wade's final year of college (Fall 2002), Funches transferred to Marquette.[2] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dwyane_Wade#_note-DWadebio)
Religion is a very, very complicated subject.
When William James went to the University of Edinburgh in 1901 to deliver a series of lectures on "natural religion," he defined religion as "the feelings, acts, and experiences of individual men in their solitude, so far as they apprehend themselves to stand in relation to whatever they may consider the divine."

If you wanna be happy for the rest of your life,
Never make a pretty woman your wife.
So from my personal point of view,
Get an ugly girl to marry you.

I figure this thread is the closest match to this topic-
If Shaq retires next year, then Miami gets $20M/year in salary cap relief??? Maybe they aren't in such bad shape then. They should tank out the year, draft a big man with a couple years of college experience and pick up some players in free agency to build around Wade.
But, that would require that Shaq turns down $40M that is owed to him. FAT chance.

Would any of us turn that down, especially with the divorce?

You sure about this? I thought retired players' salaries still counted against the cap, unless there's a buyout.
I was going to go looking for this thread to mention Shaq's monthly expenses (http://www.palmbeachpost.com/localnews/content/local_news/epaper/2008/01/25/a2a_josecol_0125.html), which were just revealed in the proceedings for his divorce. You think your monthly cable bill is big? How about $1500!
While the affidavit shows O'Neal makes a huge amount of money, $1.8 million in monthly salary, publicity contracts and returns on investments, his routine expenses total $875,015 - a month.
Among them: $156,116 in mortgages on three homes (including his $20 million mansion on Miami Beach's Star Island), plus $31,299 in homeowners insurance; $3,345 in phone bills; $1,610 in lawn and pool maintenance; $12,775 for food; $10,065 in electricity, $1,495 for cable TV; $5,000 in car payments (for three cars - he owns at least twice as many); $24,300 in gas; $6,730 in dry cleaning; $17,220 in clothing; $2,305 for pets and $110,505 for vacations.
Child care sets Shaq back $26,500 a month. He and Shaunie have four children, and each has a child from a previous relationship. By the way, he pays $10,000 a month in temporary child support and another 10 grand in alimony.
To his credit, the big-man-in-the-middle is doing his share in helping close the giant federal deficit. The 13-page document shows he pays $5.41 million a year in federal income tax and $217,000 in taxes in states where the Heat plays road games. Property taxes cost him $903,132.

So he has a pretty big carbon footprint, eh?
His food bill exceeds my everything bill by a ton!

I could say the same just about his dry-cleaning bill, though I definitely spend more on everything than Shaq spends on lawn and pool maintenance. :pound:

It looks like Shaq will be playing ball a while longer. He seems to be living beyond his means. I assume the 1.8 million salary is before taxes. His monthly expenses of 875,000 makes it look like he is barely covering it with his salary. I know Shaq is not broke, but i think it will be hard to cover 875,000 a month once his playing days are over and after Shaunie gets her cut.

He's inflating this stuff for the divorce.
I'm surprised he didn't try to throw haircuts on there.

Once he hangs it up he will definitely need to reduce these expenses...but now you get an idea of why Sprewell said he could barely keep his family fed.:)
$1495 for his cable bill?? What are they watching and what is he paying for?? All of his homes and all of his neighbors too??? I mean I have four HD DVR's hooked up to my Direct TV dish, all of the premium movie channels, the east/west coast feed for all of the network and premium channels, NBA League pass and the XM radio channels and I only pay $140 a month...
Also I didn't realize players have to pay/file taxes in all of the states they play in each season. Turbo Tax only allows you to download one state:)...If he played in 25 states he needs 25 Turbo tax software kits....he should have listed that cost too:)

Yeah; those numbers are way out of whack even for Miami.
Says $24,000+ for gas - where does he drive? (unless that includes jet fuel for the plane he didn't mention)
$17,000+ for clothing - he must only where his clothes once and throw them away. That is $550.00 a day, every day for clothes.
$110,000+ for vacations a month? He can't vacation 7 months out of the year because he is playing unless he is going on those days when he has 2 days off.
He owns the plane, island and has already included the cost of gas above. This is equal to $1,300,000 a year on vactions.
I would say these are a little inflated or he is buying straight from the U.S. government.

$3,000 a month on phone bills. I guess all of his guests and help at his three homes use his phones a lot.
Why doesn't he just get VOIP?

Shaq should get it through his head that no-fault divorce states couldn't care less what his bills are. He can inflate the numbers all he wants...it means nothing. He will pay...big time.
It looks like Shaq will be playing ball a while longer. He seems to be living beyond his means. I assume the 1.8 million salary is before taxes. If the tax numbers listed are right, he pays around $544k a month in taxes, so $1.8 - .875 - .544 means he's still clearing $381k or about $4.6 million a year.
Still, $875k a month, say $900 next year is $10.8 million a year after taxes. You're right, no way he accepts a buyout even if the Heat offer.

THE TICKER: Sheffield, wife welcome kid No. 3
January 26, 2008
Tigers designated hitter Gary Sheffield and his wife, singer DeLeon Richards-Sheffield, welcomed their third child, Christian Emari Sheffield, last Saturday.
"Gary and I are thrilled to welcome our newborn son, Christian, to our family," DeLeon said. "We are thankful for this blessing from the Lord, and we personally thank our fans for their support."

I just heard Shaq spends $12k a month on food !!!
-
$10,065 in electricity,
-
!!! OK this guys Carbon Footprint is size 20...
If Shaq spend 12,000 monthly on food. Then he and his wife only get $67 per meal for the 90 meals each eats per month. Wonder if he drinks expensive wine, or 30 year old single malt.........Needs to order off the "10 dollar menu"..........

I'm finding it hard to believe Shaq makes do with only three squares a day.
