Darth fears me. (Been dodging me for an entire year hiding in Novice)
Slippy fears me (Scared to play with the big boys)
MainManJoeD has earned himself a butt whippin' for all the smack-ola he's been spewin'.

Darth, even though you have the drafting skills of a blind monkey with a pronounced limp trying to pick an apple out of a crate of oranges and failing miserably, or the effectiveness of a camel space walking in orbit around the moon while covered in castor oil, or the trading skills of a 3rd century greek orator on wall street (also with a pronounced limp) trying to corner the market in orange juice produced in Venezuela, or the waiver wire mastery of a four year old trying to decipher the Enigma code by drawing circles in crayon on a sheet of newspaper, I think that you stand a good chance of beating #1. Good luck brother!

Draft recap: The Pink Slips.
Players drafted by the GM formerly known as Slippy have unanimously petitioned to have their team name changed from The Pink Slips to The Charity Stripes. "We feel that the color pink lacks the masculinity that this team embodies," said Arron Afflalo the nominated spokesperson. The notion is being taken into consideration.
The Shakedown: Getting your cake and eating it too but then going on a diet and being forced to chew on celery and rice crackers.
Outside of the big name superstars, there are few players better than Pau Gasol to build a team around. He has that all important C associated with his position, brings points, rebounds, assists and a few blocks while maintaining high FG% and most importantly FT%. He's like a poor man's Yao Ming except that he's not anything like Yao. And he's rich.
Paired up with Pau is Josh Smith. At 19 overall, he went a little high but its now or never in a 16 team league. Josh brings rebounds, a few steals and beaucoup blocks. Beaucoup? a hah hah. Michael Jordan est considéré comme le plus grand joueur de basketball de tous les temps. Jordan? Parlez vous francais? Um no.
Rounding out the Pink Slip core is Caron Butler. Butler slipped all the way back to the unlucky bottom drafters and while he was called a fluke by another gm, he's maintained a high number of steals and great FT% for several years. We're shoring up our small stats.
As the draft snake rears its ugly head, Slippy wonders where the heck is he going to put in a serviceable PG. Can you honestly believe that 30 picks later, a good PG will still be available? Cooler GM's show patience. Slippy grabs Roy the oft injured R.O.Y. He doesn't have the sheer gaudy assists that Slippy likes but does everything above average. Felton's FG% and TO's blow chunks and while a new offense may alleviate that, I'm looking to maintain the % cats.
Next is Shane Battier who fits in with Slippy's small stat fetish. He brings some 3's, stls, and with a new offense, maybe some assists while not hurting you too much anywhere else.
Andrew Bogut is next. He doesn't get small stats but might help in assists. His FT% sucks but he's a steadily improving dude, mate. Aside from that, he's a mediocre rebounder and scorer. We need depth at C and we don't want to be like Darth scraping the bottom of the barrell.
We start losing it here. Mo Pete brings 3's, as does JJ redick. Acie is there cuz I felt insecure about my assists. Robert Swift is my deep sleeper. Corey Brewer my light rookie sleeper.
Motown took my guys at least 3 times and a few others got picked right before me. Overall, i have too many rookies and too many pg/sg's, but we should compete in every cat.

Draft Recap: 5 Championship Drive
The Shakedown: 5 Championship Drive meets the Flip Saunders of Fantasy Basketball....call a TO Darth! Call a TO!
You painstakingly pour over a myriad of stats to come out with a ranking that balances a multitude of factors into a single number. Then you toss that aside and go for your man crush. Darth is has never been a master drafter. He could rival Kevin Mchale. His strength is in his ability to outstrip his opponents obsession over the details of fantasy basketball. Nash is a great guy to build around...if you draft at #5...luckily for Darth he didn't have to wait that long.
Sun Tzu said that if you strengthen everything, you become weak everywhere. Darth takes the words of the master to heart and grabs Joe Johnson whose solid numbers augment the godly small ball stats that Nash brings. Lucky too, that JJ doesn't cost as much as he does for the Hawks.
Antwan Jamison's history reaches back 2 years when Slippy said that AJ would win you the league and Darth said AJ sucks. Lucky for Darth (see a pattern here), he took pity on Slippy and his Okafor drafting ass and made the trade after which AJ exploded and added 3's to some impressive pts and reb numbers. AJ is a fixture on Darth's teams.
Manu is there because at that point he couldn't reach for anyone else. Ginny adds some 3's and hustle stats.
Maggette who? Darth told be he regretted grabbing this guy for Kaman. But he posed the question Dalembert or Gordon? The answer to that one was Maggette. Maggette will fill the scoring void left by Brand. The clippers are gutted so expect him to deliver the old lines adding decent reb, ast, stl and a few 3's. Kaman would have been good too considering Darth's frying a donut right now.
Darko. Darth drafted darko so that Jackattaq and Lazyberbs could post on his team's forum. Said posters will question Darth's choices on Darko's playing time and role saying that he'll be an allstar if he was the first option on offense and also the last option on offense. Darko brings blocks. With Jamison the only other big man, you need gaudy blocks.
When Slippy posed the question: How long is Adam Morrison going to be out? #1 said "2-4 weeks" for a torn ACL that was highly optimistic. So optimistic, I'd consider it deceptively so. Enter Walter Hermann. The big fantasy stud of the late season shows up on Darth's team to shoot the heck out of the ball. The team needs scoring depth and without Morrison and May, Hermann should get ample looks.
Al Harford. Scraping the bottom of the barrel yields a decent risk/ reward package not named Alonzo Mourning.
Darth picks Alonzo Mourning.
With memories of Matt Barnes brief glory days emblazoned in his mind, Darth grabs the mohawked maven. How Barnes will fit in an increasingly crowded team is anyones guess. Barnes brings 3's and pts which combine with JJ, Nash, Ginobli, and Maggette makes a whole lot of sense if you read between the lines and visualise the outcome.
Stuckey, Dampier, Antonio Daniels. In predraft huddles, Darth lectures Slippy on the perils of drafting injury guys. Dampier has a shoulder injury, Darth. The other slots are for Darth strategy of mobbing your team with lesser guys culled from the WW herd. mooooooooo!!!!!!
Darth is a small ball expert. Whether his domination in Assists, 3'st and TO (whoops!) will translate into a playoff berth will be one of the seasons storyline.

10-22-2007, 06:37 AM
the Rapid Ralphie's GM Ralphie announced today that his team officially has Jason Terry on the trading block because he sees no chance for PT with Iguodola and Chris Paul logging heavy minutes. If anyone's interested, let me know- I need someone who can block shots and rebound and deliver a decent FG%.
The draft
well, I think my first 5 choices all where guards. I kinda forgot that there are tons of goog G's out there, but not many C's. So I ended up with the likes of Haywood, Magloire, Garbajosa and Abdur- Rahim to deliver rebounds and blocks. So, as you can guess, your team has good chances to beat me in these categories. On the other hand, forget about scoring.
I expect Iguodola to avg 40+ppg this year now that Iverson is gone and Dalembert ain't the best scorer. I got Hamilton and Gordon pretty cheap so I'm loaded with scoring guards. I don't need any guy to give me assists since I have Chris Paul, whom I expect to play a full season, 48+mpg averaging around 25+apg.

You could be right but IMO the risk reward and flexibility if he bombs out is worth more to me than having a inconsisent low end producer that adds TO's and bad FT% for maybe a single rebound and 3 points.

Too funny and too true on the Jamison part.
Slippy...that was a great rundown of my team...I think. I didn't understand half of it. That's ok though because I didn't know what I was doing drafting either. You'll have to splain' it to me later.
Are you saying I did poorly? I think Nash was a great choice. I'm very happy with it. I honestly don't see much difference in the top 10 guys. It just depends what kind of team you want to build. I really enjoy the threes, points, assists, and steals.
I have no idea what kind of team I have. But you know me...that never makes a bit of difference in the end.:pound::sssh:

Swift can't play because his knee is messed up. He was supposed to start this year, but Carlissimo is reduced to starting 6'8" Nick Collison. Nick can seriously rebound. He's like the white Ben Wallace, but without all the muscles and excellent timing.
Has anyone ever played in a league this large?
Its hard to tell what kind of team with 16 Teams. Totally different talent pool. People were picking players in the late rounds that may not even have gotten picked up at all in a 12 player league.
I have last years league leader in 3-pts made. Have a couple more in the top 10 and one other in the top 5.
My strengths. 3-pt, Rebounding.
possible: Points, Steals, Assists and Blocks.
Weaknesses: FG,FT and TO's.

Ha! The Rattler is back and better than ever! He can take this category for me by himself. Josh Smith would try and block his own mum if you gave him a chance. Unfortunately for him, he is grounded this week. Let's just have a look at the other cats shall we?
Steals- Thankfully for you my steals machine Artest is out for the first 7 games otherwise you might not recover mentally from the beating thats about to happen in that category.
3's- Fuhgeddaboudddit!!
Points- Do any of your guys even average over 13 a game?
Rebounds- True blue Australian Warrior Bogut will get you some, but not enough to carry those other darko-ites who run away at any sign of contact.
Assists- Hmm... West, Law and (Not so) Mighty Mouse versus Billups, Felton and Marbury. I DON'T THINK SO!
The other ray-ray (Felton) is going to go off this year. See how many weapons he has got? He's gonna average 10 assists this year.
The other categories won't matter because my main man Matrix is the revolution and he is reloaded and ready to be a 9 cat freak! Battier is the reduced fat (and skill) version of the Matrix or maybe i'll just call him the binary man. His lines look like this: 1-1-1-1-1-1
Also I hate to tell you that you have the all-time injury squad on your hands. Sure, they might last one week to feign giving my team some trouble, but come the playoffs they'll be resting their knee meniscus' on the sidelines and icing their icepack hands in the hopes of one more application.
Oh yeah... Good luck! :gun1::pound:

i think i'm going to be horribly weak in assists, blocks, and steals though.
this is going to be a very interesting year with 16 teams and 10 starters per team. one or two big performances could sway the entire weak.

i feel bad for motown - JO is supposed to sit the opener, foye is out for who-knows-how-long, and odom is sitting tonight (why??). meanwhile boozer posts a 32/15, and pietrus plays 30 mins for golden state, and hopefully he stays in favor with don nelson during the year.
i think i'm going to be horribly weak in assists, blocks, and steals though.
this is going to be a very interesting year with 16 teams and 10 starters per team. one or two big performances could sway the entire weak.
I don't need your pity. Save it for yourself after this week. You guys still have alot to learn and I'm here to teach it to you. lol.

Yeah, I was hoping to wrangle Boozer as well. But, lost out on that one. I would have settled for one of the big 3 in BOS, but got beat to those as well. I'm actually thrilled that Howard got signed in DAL. I picked him up thinking he'd end up in CLE, but DAL is great considering Dampier is out.
You are right though, I needed a nice night from Duncan & Williams PLUS and near triple double from AK47 just to beat out your two guys, but I'm thinking my squad will hold me down as long as Davis is inconsistent or McGrady pulls a disappearing act.

I'm feeling good about my WW work. Yi's been strong for me giving me some reb, stls, blks, and a nice fg%. The secret is the motivational fortune cookie I fed ex him before every game. he is apparently a big fan.
Mccants was a nice pickup then he tweaked an ankle but looks to be on his way back.
Bass is giving me something like 11.5 pts and 9 rebs with 1 block and decent fg%.
Learning about my team was a costly 7 cats but we've trimmed a little fat and will come in next week all that leaner.
I still like my team but all the injuries have been ridiculas. Almost laughable. Now Raja Bell is down.

I have plenty of scoring, assists snd rebounds but coming up short in steals and blocks. Two prolific scorers in T-mac and Baron davis, but they shoot too much...so I have sweat it out in FG%...maybe willing to part with one one of them for a couple of players who can provide some defense...
Slippy
11-11-2007, 09:40 PM
Coming up short once again as my opponents final day performance goes into clutch mode. Haslem and Lee combine for 30 rebounds. Against a 20 rebound deficit, I get to toss fringe guys like Swift and Delonte West. I could hope and Bogut and Jianlian snags some caroms but my team doesn't do that.
TWOTIMESRALPHI
11-12-2007, 06:18 AM
luckily, my lead in Assists and steals was comfortable enough, to let Chris Paul and Kevin Durant (who ruins my FG% with reckless abandon) sit out their final games- I wouldn't have won in the TO category with them playing.
Unfortunately, I did play Desmond Mason who, along with Louis Scola (whom I still expect to break out and deliver!!! Louis, I'm waiting!!!) ruined my FG%, which was pretty close- after a poor performance by Ricky Davis and Gilbert Arenas, I gained hope that I could win in that category, but than Ilgauskas delivered once more, shooting 11 for 18- I doubt he'll stay as dominant as he currently is an entire season.
So, I realized where my teams weaknesses are, but it seems like every other team has the same weaknesses as I do and no one needs scorers but everyone needs rebounders and shotblockers, what makes them pretty worthy.
And, as Slippy wrote in another thread, the trade talk is kinda like "I'll trade you two scrubs for your bonafide superstar" or "I'll trade you my round 7 pick for your round 3 pick" but I tend to do that too, since it would be too nice to acquire someone that way

Once I see one of those, I refuse to trade with those clowns. It ticks me off when they try to take advantage of others.
People know who you are. We don't call you savvy GM's. We call you rapists and rip offs and other things I can't really write here.
The best trade is the one that is made with the intent to help BOTH teams.
I just love getting trades where it's my guy for your two guys and even if I did want your two guys you offered I would pick them up off of the waiver wire for free next week after you dumped them.
You don't need to rip off others to win a championship. In fact, if you trade fairly, it helps you win championships because people will deal with you. The trade may end up being lopsided due to circumstances, but at least make it fair when you do it. Nobody wants to pay for your trash and it offends them when you ask!!!!!
It also makes me mad because I always worry I will inadvertantly hit the wrong button and then have to clear it up with the league.
Oh, and the talk doesn't stay within the league. So if you want that rep, knock yourself out. But don't bother me with it. Generally, if I don't respond to your trade offer with a comment...it's because I couldn't think of a civil one.
Thank you...I'm done ranting...for now.

I agree that it's usually a starting point or to gauge interest. As long as the first offer isn't an insult though, that can not only be a deal breaker, but could also turn the other GM off from ever wanted to deal with you again.
Sometimes it's hard to know exactly what the other person is looking for in return too. I'll usually include comments with any offer I make.

I'm not even sure why people think I want to make any trades. I have not offered to trade ANY of my players. I really like my team.
I disagree about the trade thing though. Injuries and trades in real life can make things very different than the way they were on draft day. A good trade can make the difference between winning and not winning a championship. At least from my personal experience it can.

generally, I wouldn't say anyone is trying to offend others with these trades- it would be a hell lot of work to find out what the other team needs. I try to make fair offers, get rid of players I don't need (players that dish assists for instance) and acquire players I need (rebounders and shotblockers). As far as it seems, most people in this league need rebounders and shotblockers, maybe that's why there are so many trade offers floating around that are kind of ridicolous

I think it goes like this. A guy wants to improve his team. He looks at his team and sees a guy or two that is an average player or somebody maybe a bit too good to be on the wire.
So he says, you know, I need lots of points. I think Kobe would really help me.
So he offers the deal. To me, that is just senseless. Hello???? Why in the world would somebody give up their stud/good players for your decent/borderline guys? It just makes no sense to me.

I agree Mo. I almost always add a comment when I reject a trade offer. It gives the other person an idea if he's: close, way off, what you're looking for, or that you just aren't interested in trading player X at this time.

That's another of my fantasy pet peeves. When you make a trade offer to someone and it just sits there for days. Since the same player can't be involved in more than 1 trade offer at a time, you're dead in the water until you either cancel the trade or the other GM responds.
If the person isn't around to check that's one thing - heck, we aren't all Darth Tater, checking in on our fantasy league every 5 minutes. But if you need a bit of time to consider it, let the person know. If you aren't interested, reject the trade and take 2 seconds to write a sentence or 2 as to why so that I can move on with my life!

Yeah, I was showing patience with Magloire and Scola too- but enough's enough, I could have had Bonzi Wells or Quentin Richardson if I hadn't stuck with them so long :nerd2:
You'll find both of those players on my squad mate.

The only thing I have read is he has left the team for personal reasons.
webz - playing you will make a guy re-think his team. I have made 3 moves so far this week.

how weird, i was close to being 8-1 and now darth's up 5-4 with his guys hitting 18 threes, which is pretty ridiculous. i haven't been paying attention to pick up guys who might actually play and grab boards (no show for krstic, pietrus, moore and warrick and williams aren't doing anything), and no one wanted to block or steal today. should be a good fight to the finish.

I had to make 4 moves to keep up with Motown, because T-mac is injured and Zack Randolph has only played one game this week due to the death of his grandma. If Randolph had played in the 2 games he missed I think could win this week, but right now I am missing his 20/13 as well as T-macs contributions.
No excuses, good games by your team so far Mo

You're fine.
My basketball team likes to make the other guy sweat, only to lose at the last minute in a couple of categories by a point, board, steal, etc.

let's hope that pattern continues :D at the same time, it's difficult to have patience with krstic and pietrus, but it worked out well for me with carroll and jack, so i'll give them a chance.

As long as the coach still has confidence in them then there is no need to cut bait and run. When the coach starts reducing a players playing time due to his poor performance then you just have to cut your losses.

Thanks bro. Not playing Tim Thomas against Golden State was a bad mistake on my part though. I hope it doesn't come back to burn me. Andre Miller has had a horrible season so far. He's yet to post one game worthy of praise.

I had the same issue with Brevin Knight and Charlie Bell and had to waive them. I expect both to put up allstar numbers once Tater picks them up:).. Chris Mihm played in 2 games this seaon and was so in effective vs Duncan on Tuesday that Phil Jackson hasn't played him since..... he gone...
My guys got a lot of steals tonight. May have a shot at winning this week.

this is coming down to the wire. tater and i have been going back and forth all week...i'm up 5-4 right now. he's up by 3 threes, 11 boards, and 1 block, while i'm up by 1 steal and 6 turnovers. i've got martin, moore, and pietrus playing, while he's got barnes and udrih.
so basically i have to hope pietrus plays and both he and martin bomb 3s while barnes and udrih forget to shoot them. i have to hope moore grabs 15 boards. i have to hope martin gets some steals. tater has to hope my guys turn the ball over a ton and don't get any blocks.
there's even a little chess match because there's a game at 1 and a game 9, where each of us has 1 guy playing at 1.
exciting! this is why purchasing stattracker is a worthwhile investment...it's fun to watch.

Anyone know that scene in the Mummy 2 where Oded Fehr battles the Scorpion Kings army and they defeat the first wave and then see the second wave? That's like my matchup with Jammer. Just like with everyone else, I have a narrow margin and some scrubs coming to hold them.

As of this moment Motown leads me 5-1 with three categories in a dead tie. Three pointers, points and assists. We both have one player in action this evening so it comes down to a one on one matchup to avoid my team being totally embarassed by the Motown Prides.
well we know who should win this matchup> he has kevin Garnett who this seaons is averaging 21.6 ppg and 4.8 apg....and I have .......Jordan Farmer 9 ppg and 2 apg:yellowprison:
Please Jordan just hit one three pointer today so I can possibly escape with at least 2-7 week:pray:
The Prides kicked my arse this week... be afraid, be very afraid of who ever he plays next week...that means you webz:)

It was close, but for some reason Darko & Maggette were DNP yesterday & Matt Barnes out today...not sure why. I'm toast in a close match, once again.

my guys absolutely killed me this week- Iguodola was so off one could wish AI comes back so that he has competition that makes him avoid having 6 TO's a game while shooting about 30% from the field.
Plus, I picked up Nesterovic not knowing he got injured the night before, in exchange for Scola, to whom I stuck so long and who finally had a great night- but not as long as he was on my team.
Durant literally shoots the lights out (instead if hitting the basket) and Wilcox may jump out of the gym, but refuses to block shots.

You have a tough team LA. Poor luck with McGrady....that's all. Ultimately his untimely injury did you in. You made alot of savy pickups to try to make up the difference and it took alot of patience on my part not to go after free agents to counter. Great matchup. Given how poorly I started the season, I'm looking to win big. Garnett hitting a three would be vanglorious! :)

i am taking a risk too, only up by 4 TOs, could backfire being greedy and going for 3s/boards/blocks

hmm, well you may have a chance considering my team is out of sync at the moment. we all know billups is out, i've got marburygate going on, plus injuries to some key scrubs like ratliff and turiaf.
this may become more of a strategic matchup for me.

barnes is attending to his sick mother i think. may not travel with the team on upcoming road trip.
maggette out for a couple of games with a hamstring injury.
