I'm going to hedge my happiness and pick the Bears in my survival pool.
Win/win.
Last year's Super Bowl representative. Can we beat them twice this season. Probably not. I don't think they've fallen that far yet. Look for a 14 point Bear victory margin........

Not so fast there youngin. CJ back with KJ running the rock? More balanced offense should produce more points over the whole game.
That said, I had this pegged as a loss.

Your positive attitude is respected by me. So is your intelligence. I still WANT the Lions to win......but.

Nemo, you pick the Lions to lose EVERY week. So far you're 2-4.

Yea, I know. I used to be good at predicting Lions losses. They never were opportunistic before. They would just roll over and play dead.
This week, If the Lions win. They should pour the gatoraid on Marenilli for the 2nd week in a row. And Millen should have to dry him off.

Griese has been putting solid #s but their D is beatup.
Bears should be solid at home. If Lions win...well ESPN rating before last weeks win was 11 and now we are 9th best !!!
Mirrors break on the rough NFL road.
Bears 24
Mirrors 17

This is a tough one to call. It could go either way, but I think it's almost always safe to go against the Lions...especially for a road game that matters.
Bears win.

This is the week where the Lions look like a real NFL team. Not only will they defeat the Bears, the offense will look like the juggernaut that it`s really not.
Kevin Jones will rush over 100 yards and the defense will force three/four turnovers to remain one of the top (in forcing turnovers) teams in the league.
Stay tuned for the winning lottery numbers after the game!!!!!!!

The colour commentator for the game just said that Calvin Johnson may be the biggest and most athletic player to EVER play WR in the league. Wow, talk about a lofty statement. I don't know about all that, since he has only played 6 games in the league, but he's special for sure.
CJ just had another nice gain on an end around but came up a bit gimpy.
Lions are winning 10-0 near halftime.......I may have to start predicting WINS for these guys......:party2: :eyebrows: :lecturer: :greenapple: :good:

13-0 Lions at the half.
Roy Williams is an immense talent, but he makes a lot of mental mistakes. Two weeks in a row now he has failed to make the right move to get out of bounds after a catch with time running out.
Last week he didn't even attempt to get out of bounds, which the announcer picked up on right away. He made a catch near the sidelines and all he would have had to do was continue running in the direction of his momentum and would have easily got out of bounds to stop the clock. Instead, he turned it back inside to try to get an extra yard or two. In that instance, time (and saving a timeout) is more important than an extra yard.
Again just before the half today, approx 20 seconds left in the half, Roy catches a pass for a first down near the sideline. Instead of getting out of bounds, he makes a spin move back inside to try and fight for extra yards. The Lions were forced to call their final timeout and had to settle for a field goal.

NO! Don't do that. Keep predicting losses. It's working like a charm. LOL.
I'm not going to get too hopeful. MSU was up 17-3 at the half yesterday.
Damn, if the Lions win and go to 5-2...I dunno...I can handle them being losers I'm used to it...but success? Seriously, I really don't know what to think about this. But I'm jumping ahead...Still a half left to be the REAL Lions.

You're right, there's still a lot of time left. However, I'm feeling decent about our chances. Though I would have preferred a TD at the end of the 1st half instead of a field goal (lucky bounce for Hanson on that 52 yarder).
The Bears O doesn't really scare me, although Griese is at his best in the hurry up offense.
The Bears D is without several key players, but they still have enough play makers to turn this game around. They average more points than their offense, so this one is a long way from over.
I'd like to see the Lions feed the Bears a steady dose of KJ and TJ up the gut to eat some clock in the 2nd half.

I think it's more dumb than selfish. I mean, he hasn't complained since we drafted CJ, and he seems to have embraced it. Despite the fact that he knew his touches would go down quite a bit.

I don't think he's dumb either. I agree about him being a bit selfish. A great example is his "first down salute" in games when they are getting blown out.
He has a bit of an ego too. He reminds me of a tamer, less crazy version of Chad Johnson.
I think Calvin Johnson will end up being Roy v2.0.
He's bigger (6'3" vs 6'5"), faster (which Roy admitted to last week), smarter and more grounded than Roy.

Excellent point. I don't think that he's totally selfish, but I definitely think that he's a bit of a "me" player (which, IMO, most of the elite WRs are).
I think that it's a combination of selfish and just mental lapses. Not dumb, just "brain farts" once or twice a game.

Lions again can't punch it in from the Red Zone. Hanson misses a chip shot FG attempt. They come away with 0 points.

A FG there would put the LIONS up at the three possessions... A TD would have put the game out of reqch for the bears anemic offense....When is the last time Hanson missed a 29 yarder ??

Wow, what a HUGE penalty on the Bears. 4th and inches from the 1.5 yard line, the Lions go for it (or at least line up as if they are) and Tommie Harris jumps offsides.
The Lions got stuffed on the next play, but I think they just need to pound it 2 more times. If they don't get in, they need to kick the field goal and make it a 2 possession game.

10-28-2007, 03:26 PM
What was that, 6 straight plays inside the 2 and they can't get in the end zone. This team is garbage in the red zone. On the rare occasion that they actually call a running play, it's a very poorly designed one. You need a yard and a half and you call a toss sweep 5 yards behind the line???? This is far from the first time Martz has called a running play that requires 5 yards just to get back to the line when all they need is 1 or 2 yards.
They should hire a running play co-ordinator who's only job is to call the plays when the Lions decide to run.

Great win today. The D played well, especially the secondary, forcing 4 turnovers. Other than a few plays, they tackled ok as well.
The O moved the ball extremely well between the 20's, but just didn't get it done in the red zone.
The O-line did a nice job opening holes for KJ, who had 105 yards on the ground. They did give up 4 sacks, but a couple of those were "coverage sacks" where Kitna held onto the ball too long.
Overall a very nice performance.
5-2 baby and a sweep of the Bears this season! :sweeping:

Another win for the Lions as the defense is finally learning how to play including picking off 4 INT's including 3 in the endzone...
Kevin Jones rushes for 105 yards...somebody help me here and advise when the last time the Lions had a back hit the century mark?
Still a long way from my 9-7 prediction, but 5-2 gives a team some confidence even it the W's were vs some scrub teams...

KJ had 110 rushing yards against ATL Week 9 of last season. I think that was the last 100 yard rushing game for the Lions. So almost a full season between 100 yard rushing games. Ouch.

Thanks Jammer....looks like he may be back and the offensive line is doing better too>>> As you indicated earlier the sacks were probably because Kitna held on the rock to long. Marinelli, Martz and Millen have to realize that the Lions do have a running game and utilize it. Otherwise Millen will be drafting Mario Manningham next June:)

Roys boneheadedness will come back to bite us/him. I could've sworn he caught that pass at the 3 yd line then we kick a 40 yd FG. Did I miss something?
I thought Kevin Endzone Jones fumbled because he wore down. They barely touched the ball.
HUGE LION ROARING ROAD WIN !!!
Denver is gonna get it too next week.
Bears dropped like 10 passes and Griese missed 5 more times.
Best catch of the day was S. McDonalds sliding grab.

This is a nice surprise! Been beat 4 out of 5 years here and beat 72-13 over that stretch here, including the "take the wind" Marty game.
First 5-2 start for Millen. Ross had this in 2000, the same year the Rams were rolling. In fact, we beat them to have the same record at 6-2 with the tiebreaker advantage. Ended 9-7 just missing the playoffs.
I can live with that.

It actually wasn't that long ago. It was 2005. They went 5-11 that season with 2 road wins.
The Lions beat the Browns 13-10 in Cleveland and New Orleans 13-12 on a late field goal by Jason Hanson which ended up costing them the 1st pick in the draft. It dropped them from the #1 pick all the way to the #9 pick where they grabbed Ernie Sims (the only time in the past 5 drafts that Millen didn't take a WR with his 1st pick).

Glad to see the Lions with a winning record, but let's be honest: This team isn't all that good. They're beating teams that stink and their two losses have been to teams that stink. The Lions are mediocre at best.
18-25 is the combined record of the teams they have played this season.
They still have Green Bay coming up twice. Tougher part of the schedule is coming up.

I don't disagree with you on any of this Gazoo. However, considering the fact that this team has been HORRIBLE for years, I'll take mediocre from this team right now! Average is a big step up from Garbage, IMO. It's all relative. :pound:
There are only a couple of "elite" teams in the league right now and there are a few "horrible" teams. Most teams fall in the middle, which gives the Lions a decent chance of winning most weeks. Considering what we're used to, I'll take it!
I don't expect the team to go from worst to first overnight, but I do expect them to at least challenge and show improvement, which is exactly what this season's team has shown IMO.

Looks like Urlacher has arthritis in his back, which is a factor in his performance decline as of late.
The bad news for him is that there is no cure and he'll just have to deal with the pain.
If this is true, then I don't see him playing for more than another year or so. That would be a huge blow for the Bears.
