ESPN - Redskins' Taylor dies from injury in shooting - NFL (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3129406)
Pro Bowl safety Sean Taylor (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=6764) died Tuesday after he was shot in his home by an apparent intruder, leaving the Washington Redskins (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=was) in mourning for a teammate who seemed to have reordered his life since becoming a father
A tragic loss to say the least

With that break-in a week earlier, it seems like somebody was out to get him.
However, whoever shot him in the leg just left him. If they really wanted to kill him, they probably would have shot him again. Mysterious.
Also, very bad luck that the bullet hit him in a key artery.
I feel bad that somebody didn't stop the bleeding before medical help arrived. To die from a wound to the leg is tragic.

Wow. I saw it run across the sports ticker last night that he had been shot in the leg/groin area. I didn't think it was serious when I saw it.
Very tragic.

The Girlfriend?? Never thought about that one.. You would think she would have at least a marriage license if she was setting him up to collect? I don't know the woman, but I only hope that she wasn't involved..but still how long did he lay there losing blood before she called 911??
Athletes and some singers(rappers) are targets for random violence through jealousy and unfortunately bragging rights...

A lot going on there Dre.........
No security system........Just had a break in a week or so before this incident.............
Phone line in the home not working.........first it was thought the line was cut, however, it wasn`t working at the time of the break in...hmmm
Nothing was taken, either in this break in, or the previous one....
Taylor and his girlfreind was awaken to noise in the living room, then the intruders broke into the bedroom, fired only two shots, both hitting Taylor............
Obviously, the intruders knew He was home and didn`t have a firearm (he couldn`t because it would have been a violation of his probation if I am not mistaken) or I am sure he would have played Scarface and introduced him/them to his little friend.
Just very strange........

Hit-men don't shoot their targets in the legs and then run away.
I can't think of any conceivable motivation for someone to break in for a 2nd time, shoot somebody in the leg... accidentally (through the door), then not take anything, not go after the others in the house, etc.
There has to be more info.

Michael Wilbon On Sean Taylor Shooting: "It's Not Surprising"
Well, thanks for being an a sensative man, Michael Wilbon. In his latest Chat House session (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/discussion/2007/11/20/DI2007112000544.html), he was asked various questions about the Sean Taylor (http://sports.aol.com/fanhouse/tag/SeanTaylor/) shooting.
His responses were a little surprising:
I know how I feel about Taylor, and this latest news isn't surprising in the least, not to me. Whether this incident is or isn't random, Taylor grew up in a violent world, embraced it, claimed it, loved to run in it and refused to divorce himself from it. He ain't the first and won't be the last. We have no idea what happened, or if what we know now will be revised later. It's sad, yes, but hardly surprising.

:hoops:
I read where he had a very small inner circle of friends. He seemed to be spending a lot of time at home with his family. This senario is not typical of the person who tours out in public with a very high profile and has all sorts of hangers on. With his initial set of circumstances, I do not wish to read all the speculation. It'll be very sad..........

True.
Nobody said it had to be a professional hit man.
Furthermore, a hit man is hired to kill someone, whether they are shot in the head, leg or finger. .

FOX Sports on MSN - NFL - Taylor's death a grim reminder for us all (http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/7499442?MSNHPHCP>1=10637)
Someone who loved Sean Taylor is crying right now. The life they knew has been destroyed, an 18-month-old baby lost her father, and, if you're a black man living in America, you've been reminded once again that your life is in constant jeopardy of violent death.
The Black KKK claimed another victim, a high-profile professional football player with a checkered past this time.
No, we don't know for certain the circumstances surrounding Taylor's death. I could very well be proven wrong for engaging in this sort of aggressive speculation. But it's no different than if you saw a fat man fall to the ground clutching his chest. You'd assume a heart attack, and you'd know, no matter the cause, the man needed to lose weight. Well, when shots are fired and a black man hits the pavement, there's every statistical reason to believe another black man pulled the trigger. That's not some negative, unfair stereotype. It's a reality we've been living with, tolerating and rationalizing for far too long.
Wow. A very interesting viewpoint. I wasn't even aware that people see this as a phenomenon. My first reaction after a few sentences was "This guy is on something." But I kept reading, and was intrigued. What are all of your thoughts?

You're damn straight I blame hip hop for playing a role in the genocide of American black men. When your leading causes of death and dysfunction are murder, ignorance and incarceration, there's no reason to give a free pass to a culture that celebrates murder, ignorance and incarceration.....
Blame drugs, blame Ronald Reagan, blame George Bush, blame it on the rain or whatever. There's only one group of people who can change the rotten, anti-education, pro-violence culture our kids have adopted. We have to do it.
According to reports, Sean Taylor had difficulty breaking free from the unsavory characters he associated with during his youth.
The "keepin' it real" mantra of hip hop is in direct defiance to evolution. There's always someone ready to tell you you're selling out if you move away from the immature and dangerous activities you used to do, you're selling out if you speak proper English, embrace education, dress like a grown man, do anything mainstream.
The Black KKK is enforcing the same crippling standards as its parent organization. It wants to keep black men in their place — uneducated, outside the mainstream and six feet deep.
In all likelihood, the Black Klan and its mentality buried Sean Taylor, and any black man or boy reading this could be next.
I think that the same type of thing exists in other ethnic and racial communities in America. Maybe not as visible or exactly in the same form, but still there nonetheless strongly influencing and controlling young kids lives and not always for their good.

The other problem here is that so called black KKK will never read an article like this that punctuates what they are doing to their fellow black man. If they do, their attitude would be F-U or they are beating their chest on their so called accomplishments...in their world.

I heard Rolle's interview on ESPN this morning and I believe what he is saying is probably true... it is hard to shake the past if you are successful and move on and your old friends or aquaintances are not part of that success.
When I was 14, (back in 69), our family moved from the riot torn area of 12th street to the NW side of Detroit. When I went back to visit some friends in the old hood a few months later I was jumped on by some thugs (non friends who remembered me) as they tried to take my transistor radio. Needless to say I never went back over there again. :yellowprison:

I'm not sure how he could have avoided this, without living his life like a prisoner. If somebody really wants to get you, they will probably find a way.
The real shame was that he had the inner strength to make a break from his previous life and he ended up getting punished for it.

Miami-Dade Police: 4 men arrested in slaying of Washington Redskins star Sean Taylor
By LISA ORKIN EMMANUEL, Associated Press Writer
November 30, 2007
Police spokeswoman Linda O'Brien identified the men as: Venjah K. Hunte, 20; Eric Rivera Jr., 17; Jason Scott Mitchell, 17; and Charles Kendrick Lee Wardlow, 18. O'Brien said the charges for each had not yet been determined, but "we are talking murder and burglary."
The Miami Herald reported on its Web site that Mitchell and Wardlow had connections to Taylor. Mitchell cut Taylor's lawn and did other chores at the house, Mitchell's twin brother, Scottie, told the paper. Taylor's sister, Sasha Johnson, dates Wardlow's older cousin Christopher, and Scottie Mitchell told the paper the couple invited Jason Mitchell to Johnson's birthday party within the past two months.
This still doesn't sound like a robbery to me. It appears to me that more went down here than we might ever find out.

Sean's girlfriend and mother of his 18 month old daughter is the neice of actor Andy Garcia, so I doubt that she anything to do with this crime.

That makes sense that they weren't trying to kill him.
They broke in, were surprised by the resistance they got, fired off some shots like idiots, hit him in the leg, and then they freaked out and left.

Yeah they were amateurs, teenagers with at least one gun. So sad. I bet Sean Taylor would have given anything in that fancy Miami House to those kids to keep his life.

Nice moving funeral service broadcast on ESPN news this morning. Speakers included his girlfriend sister, his older brother, some current and ex team mates, coaches, neighbors and friends gave tributes. Jesse Jackson and a number of pastors provided the sermons and the most moving one was given by his personal pastor, David L Peay Sr, who ended the service with a rousing 40 minutes of tribute to Taylor.
One pastor even called out the media for blaming Sean's background on his ultimate demise as oppose to waiting for the facts to be drawn out. I wonder if Jason Witlocks comments are now... :sssh:
