Golden State Dec. 16th, 12:30 PM

TV - FSN Detroit, NBALP

The Warriors visit the Palace, their first stop of a five game road trip. GS dropped their first five games of the season, however, they are 13-5 since then. Stephen Jackson and Baron Davis lead the Warrior attack.

OK here it is!!!! The high flying crazy Warriors!!!! This is THE GAME!!!! Awww man this is a great gauge. No more Nazr, and this is yet another game that is screaming AMIR.....AMIR......AMIR. We can play Amir and not lose any height/rebounding and inside advantages this game. This is the type of game that Max and Amir can really shine in and show their stuff.

I'll be the pessimist. Oh well, what's another DNP-CD.

Anyway, we've always had trouble with high-flying, athletic teams.

I'm holding out for a win.

Unbelievable run by the Pistons to close out the half: 23-3! They're up 58-35 at the break. Almost all of it came from a unit of Tay, CB, Dice, JMax, and AA. Everyone out there contributed and played great while the Warriors went cold. Flip tinkered a bit with the subs--AA and Rip in and out a bit, Jarvis and Lindsey in but kind of stinking it up--until he hit on a unit that blew it open. Great stuff.

OK, lots of garbage time in this one. Nellie waved the white flag early in the third, taking out Baron, Jackson, and Harrington only about 5 minutes in. Matt Barnes got hot and got the Warriors back within 15, as the Pistons ball movement stopped happening, but a quick run at the end of the third pushed the lead back to 20 to start the 4th. Sheed got T'd up late in the third quarter, which was a waste...why use one in a blowout? Anyway, Amir came in for him and played the rest of the game, almost 15 minutes total. Tay played about 2 minutes to start the 4th before sitting down, and none of the other starters played in the 4th at all.

AA, Amir, and JMax led the way in garbage time, with blocked shots all over the place for JMax (6 total) and Amir (3). Interestingly, Flip Jr. didn't play even one second in this game. Is he about to be traded, like Nazr? Maybe, although it's also possible that Flip Sr. and Joe finally tired of his "4th Quarter Slaughter" act and decided to get more shots for AA and Amir whenever the next garbage time opportunity rolled around. AA took good shots and ended up with 11 points, while Amir made his presence felt with the blocked shots, 7 rebounds, a follow-up slam on a fastbreak, a nice drive through the lane when they left him open at the FT line, and a diving hustle play to trigger a fastbreak (which ended with JMax missing a breakaway slam...doh!). Primos got almost 7 minutes of run at the end to give JMax a rest.

Afflalo is easily becoming one of my favorite Pistons. Kid's a gamer.

A game that was over at halftime gave both AA and Aj plenty of time to show the coaches and the fans that they belong. Afflollo got 24 mins and contributed 11 pts, 4 brds and 2 assists, along with some nice defense. No mistakes no TO's. Amir also played 14 mins including the the entire 4th qtr and added 6 pts, 7 brds and 3 blocks.

Youth was served with Aj, AA, and JMAX showing that they deserve to play and can contribute if Flip lets them. It's just to bad that Stuckey couldn't be out there running the point today instead of Hunter...

oh back to the game....Steven Jackson signed autographs before the game and was booed after every made basket but scored 13 of the Warriors first qtr points and finished with 13 points....... Baron Davis was snowed under in Detroit as he was only 1-8 and hurt my fantasy team as I needed more steals and assists from him today...

With the exception of Sheed, the starters hit at least 55% or better from the field. Tay also was 4/4 Ft and was 3/3 from beyond the arc for his 23 points...... If you noticed on his basketball card they showed during the game, he was born 2/28/80, which means that technically he has celebrated only 5 actual birthdays and will celebrate number 6 in two months.. Hopefully our 5 year old toddler is out of his scoring funk...:)

So Amir gets 15 minutes of GT, and is 2nd on the team in rebounding? 3 blocks? 3-4 shooting on dunks and layups? This dude is a force.

Max and Amir... and I agree, AA, should always play together and should come into the games like a tidal wave.

This is precisely what all the grumbling is about. They teased us with the quotes about Amir, then they showed us what he can do, and he seems to bring it every single time he's given a chance.

Don't develop him, just let him loose. Unhook the lease and throw his favorite bone in the neighbor's yard. Watch him tear up their grass, impregnate their poodle, and drink out of the bird bath.

Wow, a game where just about everyone got what they wanted. (Unless someone wanted to see Fabio play, he did not dress for this one.)

Our starters did not do all that well, but they did not fall behind either. Baron Davis was kept to 2 points, so you know our starters were playing some serious D. Prince was rack'n up the points all over the place, nice to see his outside shot back. Rip hit some shots. Dyess was in a shooting groove and he got inside here and there. Sheed had another no show game for the most part.

Billups gave us some very important scoring at the line to end the 3rd quarter. His drives inside, and some good shooting by Tay, were all we had to counter a GS team that was all the sudden hitting all their outside shots. (Shots by their subs after their starters had sat.) I kind of wondered though why it seemed Tay and Billups were playing a two man game, ignoring Afflalo, JMAX, and Amir. Amir had come in for Sheed after he picked up a tech, with about 4 minutes to go in the 3rd. A unit of Billups, Afflalo, Prince, Amir, and JMAX played the last few minutes of the 3rd, and it got quite interesting.

The lead was 20 when Amir entered the game. It went down to 15 at one point and this had us fans wondering if yet again we were going to be shutout as far as getting to see Amir playing serious minutes. Fifteen points down with 14 minutes to go in the game is not garbage time. Amir ended up showing a lot of skill.

For the third time in 3 games, we saw Amir do a fancy move to the basket while making it look easy. Very impressive. He blocked a fastbreak layup attempt. He went on the floor and alertly knocked the ball ahead to start a fast break. (Where JMAX missed a windmiller.) Three blocks for Amir. Seven rebounds. He followed up a fast break layup miss by Afflalo with a slam. There is a huge difference between Amir getting a rebound and JMAX getting one. Amir makes it look effortless while JMAX, being much shorter, makes it look hard.

Amir is very active on D, and when it comes time for the rebound, he is right there. If the other team is fast breaking, they got to contend with Amir. I really can't see any down side to this young player playing for us. A whole lot of us want to see more. It is my opinion that if Amir started playing regularly, the Palace would start to fill up again.

Afflalo played half the game. Half the game. He played the whole 2nd quarter save maybe 2 minutes to start it. He even got some small forward minutes there at the end. What a difference between him and Hayes getting those minutes. Afflalo handles the ball well to complement the point guard, hits his shots, is all over the place on D. And when he drives in, people become open as the other team is forced to address him.

Hunter played solid ball for the most part. Yeah, he played too long, and got slow bringing it up at the end, but you know I was thinking he might need life support if they kept him in any longer. And still, even with a 25 point lead, an exhausted Hunter, Murray still got no time. Which was great, as Afflalo and Amir got lots of touches this way. Back to Hunter. Good solid D.

Hayes did very little in this one. A nice pass from Brezec got him a easy one under the basket, and very late in the game he finally made a jump shot.

Maxiell was pretty awesome. A unit of Billups, Afflalo, Hayes, Dyess, and JMAX held GS nearly scoreless for most of the 2nd quarter. Hunter helped start the run, and Sheed was in there too for some of it. We ended the 2nd quarter with Rip at small forward and Afflalo at shooting guard. I loved the fact that Afflalo stayed in after playing such fine D.

Now for just a bit of knitpicking. In the first half, we played exclusively a 3 man rotation for our bigs. JMAX spelling both Dyess and Sheed. I sure hope that next game, after what he just did in this one, that big rotation adds Amir to it. Yeah, and Amir could play some small forward too. Nobody could do much worse than Hayes did. (Though I must say that for this game and last, Hayes has been in during some seriously good defensive runs for us. He does hurt us now and then by being too slow on one on one defense, but he is a good team player.)

GO PISTONS!!!!!

Two cents...

- Slowly this team is falling out of love with the three. It's not longer the answer to every offensive problem.

- Dice is better starting. He's rebounding more in traffic, and he's calling for the ball in the post, taking it to the defense rather than taking what they give him. Don't know if he would maintain that aggressiveness if he went back to the bench.

- Flip was wearing the ugliest tie I've even seen today.

In 25 minutes, rookie Arron Afflalo scored a career-high 11 points, but also took a good dose of ridicule from his teammates. On a breakaway, Afflalo dished to Maxiell, who had a career-high six blocks to go with 11 points and four rebounds.

Maxiell’s dunk attempt hit the back rim and bounced about 25 feet up in the air. Saunders called it the “highest missed dunk” he’d ever seen.

“You might not see a punt in the NFL with that much hang time,” he said.

But at the next timeout, Pistons threw towels at Afflalo, goading him for not taking it himself.

“He’s been talking stuff about how much hops he’s got all year,” Billups said. “He had a dunk, and he gave it up to Max.”

I don't think I have much to add. I loved AJ and AA with extended minutes. I also have to say, I really like Croshere. That's a very smart basketball player whose mind is ahead of the body. If he had a bit more athleticism, he could've been a star in this league. Warriors were off from the beginning and never really in the game.

Think about what that play reveals about Afflalo's character.

He's getting an opportunity, but probably not as much PT as he wants or thinks he deserves. He's on a fastbreak with no defense back and he can obviously take it himself with zero resistance. Instead, he looks behind him, waits for his big, and gives it to him so that the crowd can see a show. AA is a team player with maturity beyond his years.

Too bad Maxiell couldn't repay him by giving him an assist in the box score.

Just got thru watchin the game! Started kinda spooky , but ended up real fun! Tay finally got his groove on in the 2nd and he seems to play better with max on the floor. This is why my new Piston starters would be:

F- AMIR
F- MCDYESS
C- SHEED
G- BILLUPS
G- HAMILTON

BENCH:
PRINCE
MAX
AFFLALO
STUCKEY
BREZEC
HAYES

HVC TIME:
HUNTER
HERRMANN

RIP:
MURRAY

Also, that missed max dunk was 'per-cious'!! It was a terrible camera angle, but the bench reaction (led by Sheed) was hilarious!:pound:The look on Brahma X's face going back to the bench was priceless/ But he HAS truly become a force!

Good win....17-7 Bring on the Lepracuans!

Here's a fun recap (http://goldenstateofmind.com/story/2007/12/17/0729/4108#readmore) from the big Warriors blog. Those guys aren't too keen on the Palace fans (they always refer to them as "barbarians" since the Artest brawl), but they sure do appreciate JMax. Interesting point about how the Pistons have kept finding really talented big men in the past few years--with all the complaining we do about Amir not playing and not having a real center since Ben left, it does give you some perspective to see the Warriors fans jealous over what the Pistons do have, since GS has barely had any legitimatelly talented traditional 4s or 5s in over a decade.

Did anyone see Nellies qoutes on the game. He made some excellent points that we wish Flip would get. He knew his starters were not bringing it, he figured that could happen as a result of the scheduling, figured why wear them out and you have a game the next day, said that his bench needed the mins anyway, gave him a great chance to allow his young guys to play. SMART GUY!!!!! Not that we could ever, ever, ever, ever deal with Nelly as Pistons fans, but I do wish Flip would take a page out that book in ref to that game.

I think Flipper did that against the Lakers. The fact is that for most games that we have lost this year, except for the Lakers and maybe one or two others at the most, we have had a chance to win them well into the fourth quarter.

When we were blown out early on the road against the Lakers Flipper even played Cheikh.

They had a few legit points concerning the Pistons fans. Oracle is much louder than the Palace these days. They asked has the crowd ever willed their team to a victory and the answer is yes&no. When Ben was here and our Mantra was "Goin to work", we did it alot. Now with the Flip regime, the palace crowd is not as inspired as they used to be.

Oh and another thing, how and the heck can they talk about the urban problems of Detroit?? Last time I checked GoldenState was a Bay Area team, and the Bay Area is not just expensive San Fran, it also includes Oakland....Oakland is indeed the Detroit of the west coast. Oaklanders should in no means what-so-ever throw stones, since they live in a glass house.

Oakland, while definitely having issues of its own, is by no means as bad as Detroit is, although quite overpriced. Having said that, it has nothing to do with the ball game. Also, Oracle arena is quite a bit smaller than The Palace and the ceiling sits lower, so it doesn't take as much to fill it up with noice.

Wow, a game where just about everyone got what they wanted. (Unless someone wanted to see Fabio play, he did not dress for this one.)

Adding comments after rewatching the game. I'll start the paragraph with 2nd to show where I added comments.

2nd) Dyess only made one outside shots. The other 12 points were at the basket, three of them on post up moves. Sheed hits some shots early and that was it.

Billups gave us some very important scoring at the line to end the 3rd quarter. His drives inside, and some good shooting by Tay, were all we had to counter a GS team that was all the sudden hitting all their outside shots. (Shots by their subs after their starters had sat.) Fifteen points down with 14 minutes to go in the game is not garbage time. Amir ended up showing a lot of skill.

He followed up a fast break layup miss by Afflalo with a slam. There is a huge difference between Amir getting a rebound and JMAX getting one. Amir makes it look effortless while JMAX, being much shorter, makes it look hard.

2nd) Amir dribbled left handed to the left (from middle top), got past his defender, and then hooked it lefty over the 2nd defender with ease. Amir is right handed. No weaving was involved in this one; Amir just used a very strong move here when he saw an opening for it. Amir also scored a 2nd time in the post. This time, the pass was poor, and Amir fumbled it, recovered the ball, and simply layed it in before the defense could recover.

2nd) They say the snow kept half the fans away from this sellout. But I was at the Friday game - not much more than half there either.

Hunter helped start the run, and Sheed was in there too for some of it. We ended the 2nd quarter with Rip at small forward and Afflalo at shooting guard. I loved the fact that Afflalo stayed in after playing such fine D.

2nd) This ain't right. I had reviewed Friday's game just before watching this one. (something I usually avoid these days.) and got a bit confused between the two games. The unit that did the main damage, a 17-1 run, was Billups, Afflalo, Prince, JMAX, Dyess. Rip came in for Prince, and we got one more bucket to make it a 19-1 run. It was still overall a very good defensive quarter, and Hayes did play the first five minutes. (but the 19-1 run started with 7 minutes to go, and Hayes off the floor already.)

Nothing to add, I just added comments to my post. Lets see how this works.

In those comments it seems as if Nellie understands how to use today for the development of the bigger picture, and Flip doesn't.

Heh Dude.

We were being blown out early when Flipper sent AJ and Cheikh in for extended minutes and they helped get us back in the game.

Have a nice day.

:hoops:
