View Full Version : College Footballs Never Ending Bowl Season

It used to be that there were not too many college football bowl games each year. The Rose, Sugar and Cotton being the main ones. They were held on Jan 1st each year. There were a couple other bowl games in those days like the Senior bowl etc but in total it was not much more than a handful, if that many.

Now the college football bowl season runs for what seems like two months, with any college whose alumni have deep enough pockets and an interest in creating a bowl game can and do so.

For me all of this has totally diluted the meaning the college bowl games, except for the Rose Bowl and that is only because I live in Los Angeles.

College football and its never ending season of bowl games. What a meaningless bore. With all of these games they still haven't come up with a good way to determine the national champion.

I agree, it's absurd. Pretty much anyone who wins 6 games from any major conference gets into a bowl, and you even have teams who lose their bowl game ending the season with a losing record. It's nice for fans of usually lesser teams when they get to have a rooting interest in a bowl game (my usually hapless Kentucky Wildcats have won the who-cares Music City Bowl two years in a row now), but overall, it's ridiculous.

when the bowl games last 2 plus weeks i thought it was ok, being mid dec thru jan1. but now its just insane. Ohio State for 2 years in a row is going to go 6 weeks between games? as much as I hate that team south of the border how can you be expected to play at a high level with that amount of down time.

the system really needs fixed and keep money out of the discussion... and don't try to use "student athletes" as an excuse either these guys are much more likely to be playing on sunday making millions then the division 2 and 3 players who do playoffs.

the whole thing just drives me insane

It's a way for universities to bring some $$$ in.

The Bowl system allows many teams to be happy at the end of the season. A playoff would result in one winner and many losers. Since these are kids we're talking about, they want to spread the happiness.
Hopefully, nobody feels that I'm spreading it with this response.

Agree and that is the reason why we can't hold a playoff as it would mean that only 10 teams would really play in December and January all others would play their last game on the last Saturday in November with no where to go and no money to make...

Some of the games seem like they take two weeks.

The only games I was interested in were involving Big Ten Teams.

Another football bowl game today. What else.

Today's game on ABC is not even a college game but the

"Under Armour All-American High School Football Game"

Well at least they have the right sponsor. LOL
