Where is she going? Who told you about this? A sports forum? A radio DJ? Your barber? Your Aunt Dorothy?

Last year, Swin was very disappointed with her minutes and relationship with your mentor. He was very frustrated with her play and publically called her out. After the finals, swin made hints toward not resigning. she is a free agent and not expected back. Next years starters will be Ford, Pearson, Braxton, Smith and my wifehttp://deannanolanfanclub.tripod.com/

Do the Shock have a draft pick?? We know Candace Parker will go number one and the LA Sparks have that pick.. Supposedly Sylvia Folkes of LSU is a top 3 pick too, even though she has sat out part of the season injured.

Swin still has her swagger, but has lost those skills that got her there. Laimbeer may be better suited trying a sign and trade with some team out there that can post up and drive like Swin used to do. Somebody might bite because she still has some marketability in a small market WNBA city.

Swin is a beautiful sister though. I don't go for Tweety and her tattoos.

Pierson's not as pretty, but her game screams "Detroit Basketball".

Swin is now part of Shock history like Ruth Riley as Laimbeer deals her away for the 4th pick in the upcoming draft.

Shock trade Swin Cash to Seattle (http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080219/SPORTS0105/802190433)

Laimbeer sent captain Swin Cash to the Seattle Storm on Tuesday. In exchange, Detroit will receive the fourth pick in April's draft.

Also Indiana traded Tamika Catchings to the Connecticut Storm so their chief rival in the east goes from Indiana back to Connecticut...

OK, I know we can get a really good player with the 4th pick...BUT!!!.....Swin is supa-fine, I mean we had a pretty good looking WNBA squad here, nothing like Hoops & Eye Candy. The 4th pick better be a Baller and a Looker......If we could somehow/someway get Candace "Please Be KGreg Baby-Mama" Parker........aaaaahhhhh.

Face of the franchise is traded away after 10 solid years and championships. She hasn't been as quick since her surgery.
Hopefully, she fares better than Ben Wallace who left under similar circumstances........

I could care less if they're the ugliest team in the league as long as they're competing for championships.

Great move by Laimbeer.

4 th pick in the draft sounds good. Bill didn't like Cash anyway.

The Fever just got Katie Douglas, so they just got better. It will be interesting to see who the Shock get with the #4 pick.

Kgreg it would be nice to get Candace in a Shock uniform but she is a junior and I am not sure if she will opt out this year or not. If she does, the LA Sparks have the # 1 pick and believe me she would love to come out here for a modeling career too. Besides she is engaged to the guy with the big Forehead >Shelden Williams who was just traded to Sacamento Kings for Bibby, so that may influence her decision too head west...

Thanks OZ, I watched the first round and the girls seem excited about going to help their respective new teams.

Basically, Bill swapped a partially mended knee 28 year old former champion in Cash for a 23 year old 2 time NCAA Womens champ who probably plays better defense than Cash and is better behind the arc. Second pick Natasha Humphrey looks good too. Good luck Shock, time to bring two more banners to the palace this summer

I watched this one....Parker was very impressive, almost scoring a triple double.

Only the second time a defending champion has lost the opening game of the season when receiving their rings. Each time the Sparks have done the trick spoiling the Shock's ring ceremony by beating them back 2004 after the Shocks 2003 champion victory over them.

If the Sparks and Shock get to the finals, I might even venture out to my first WNBA game here in LA this summer:sssh:

Not a bad win there. Atlanta was high on a home opener for the first time in their history and had a 13 point lead into the half.

Another win. 4-1 so far. Although it was superfulous, Hornbuckle hit a last split second halfcourt shot at the end of the game. Aside from the obvious differences in the game play versus the men, one thing that stuck out is how the gals artfully can use the glass in shot making due to their circumstances. Deanna is a lot of fun to watch. Next game: May 31st @ Indiana.

Pierson scores 25 to lead Shock past Liberty

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (AP)—Detroit coach Bill Laimbeer was worried that his Shock weren’t ready for the start of the season.
One of his All-Stars—Swin Cash (http://sports.yahoo.com/wnba/players/501/;_ylt=ApeqzCpIVWnFAJPZnFOkW1VbvrYF)—had been traded to Seattle and two others — Cheryl Ford (http://sports.yahoo.com/wnba/players/572/;_ylt=AvSO7nuTGV4QZ_8d_gX4SL9bvrYF) (knee) and Deanna Nolan (http://sports.yahoo.com/wnba/players/420/;_ylt=Au60YRQ0F3XZbYewkYUUzuFbvrYF) (ankle)—started the year at less than 100 percent.
Sunday, though, the Shock beat the New York Liberty (http://sports.yahoo.com/wnba/teams/nyl/;_ylt=AtD5Zlbu5x5AbTl92cjJXLJbvrYF) 72-62 to improve to 4-1.
“I told our staff that I was afraid we’d start 2-10 with the new players and the injuries,” Laimbeer said. “It feels very good to be 4-1.”
Ford had microfracture surgery in September and only started practicing a week before the opener, while Nolan came to training camp after spraining her ankle in Russia. Both players have been in the lineup, but they are happy to be getting a lot of help from their teammates.

“Right now, everything hurts,” said Nolan, who scored 14 points two days after hyperextending her elbow in a win at Atlanta. “It’s huge that we are 4-1 with everything going on.”
Laimbeer decided before the opener to keep bringing last year’s Sixth Woman of the Year, Plenette Pierson (http://sports.yahoo.com/wnba/players/573/;_ylt=Ann6VWK6Vd0bQRbBqTXkNQ9bvrYF), off the bench despite the problems in the starting lineup. Sunday, Pierson had 25 points, and she leads the team with a 17.0 scoring average.
“Right now, we’re trying to play hard and bide our time until Cheryl and Deanna get back,” she said. “
Detroit improved to 3-0 at home despite only having one starter reach double figures. Kara Braxton (http://sports.yahoo.com/wnba/players/704/;_ylt=AgpA_6jbf9FMt0pcTsov6C1bvrYF) added 11 off the bench.
Lisa Willis (http://sports.yahoo.com/wnba/players/4063/;_ylt=AuPqA64Bu1kmMSKcbxHz4k1bvrYF) led New York with 12 points, but starters Loree Moore (http://sports.yahoo.com/wnba/players/707/;_ylt=AhjQTpm0BoPduovvTvs6_vVbvrYF), Erin Thorn (http://sports.yahoo.com/wnba/players/586/) and Janel McCarville (http://sports.yahoo.com/wnba/players/698/;_ylt=ArbPrxrYTcR6ecnGGd6JmDNbvrYF) combined for only two on 1-of-12 shooting.
“They put me in to shoot the ball,” Willis said. “I’ve got to think shoot first and be aggressive.”
New York missed 18 of its first 20 shots, and committed nine turnovers as the Shock built a 23-6 lead midway through the second quarter.
The Liberty rallied to pull within 29-19 at the half, but another prolonged scoring drought to start the second half restored the Shock’s big lead. New York missed its first 10 shots of the period, allowing Detroit to go up 41-19.
“We got off to such a slow start, and I’m not really sure why,” New York coach Pat Coyle said. “When you get down like that, you have to make threes to get back in it, and we didn’t.”
The score was 54-29 at period’s end, with Detroit outshooting New York 63 percent to 17 percent in the quarter.
The Liberty, though, started the fourth with a 23-4 run to pull within 58-52 with 5:17 left. Pierson, though, had a basket and an assist on the next two possessions, and the Shock held on to win.
“We always make things hard on ourselves,” Pierson said. “I guess it gets us ready for the playoffs.”

What an amazing comeback by the Shock. Down by 7 with 32 seconds left, the Shock outscore Minnesota 11-4 to send the game in overtime. Deanna Nolan nailed two 3-pointers and was fouled shooting another 3-pointer with 4 seconds left. She went 3-for-3 at the line to send the game in OT. Nine points for her in a half minute.

I don't usually watch WNBA, but I'm glad I tuned into the end of this one. Let's see what happens in overtime now.

shock fall short blowing a game a they were supposed to win against Played from behind all game long taking a one point lead late in the 4th and then tying it with less 7 seconds in regulation on a Deana Nolan three.

Nothing left in tank in the OT though as they fall 89-82 after giving up what look like three uncontested three pointers in the last 2.5 minutes of the game to the Fever. Meanwhile their own three point attempts were coming short.

At one point near the end of regulation both teams were a combined 39-39 from the free throw line but the FT differential was 14 points in the end in favor of the Fever. The difference the game however was the three point shooting where the fever made about 5 more threes than the Shock. A lot of then were wide open and you would hope that Laimbeer addresses that in tomorrow's practice.

Plennette Pierson suffered a shoulder engery with about 4.5 mins left in the game and it all depends on how it heals before Tuesday to say if the favored Shock will make it to the next round or not.

Not a good day for Detroit teams as the Tigers and Lions will suffer a losses too.

It would be nice to have at least one more championship in Detroit this year besides the Wings.

The worst thing about the game was that both Plenette Pierson and the Fever player Ebony Hoffman were called for offsetting techs, but Pierson was on the bench the rest of the game with her shoulder in ice and Ebony Hoffman stayed in the game and hit 2 three pointers in OT which was the difference in the game.

Meanwhile, Pierson who led the team in assists and steals yesterday and was tied for team lead in both scoring and rebounds, will probably have to sit out tomorrow's rubber game while Hoffman plays.

So, unless the other players step up or Hoffman is suspended, the Shocks season could possibly come to a quick end....:yellowprison:

Finally some justice for Detroit and Bill Laimbeer. The incident where Plenette Pierson was swung over the back of Ebony Hoffman has been reviewed with good news. This year WNBA most improved player Ebony Hoffman was upgraded to a Flagrant Foul, Penalty Two, and has been fined. While our girl Plenette Pierson's technical foul issued has been rescinded.

Bitter sweet news to some, but Hoffman plays in game three and Pierson sits with the injured shoulder.

Good thing is the Shock are up 30-7 at the end of the first qtr....:p_welldone:

The interesting thing is, had it not worked, people would be criticizing him for being clueless. The again, maybe it's just about knowing when to hold 'em and when to fold 'em, and folding 'em before they lose the game for you.

Also, it's about having the confidence to do what you think is best. If you have no backbone, then you do all the standard things to avoid criticism if you lose.

In this particular instance, I definitely would have called a timeout though. The Shock turned it over multiple times in a row and gave up uncontested layups in a game where they had an insurmountable lead.

Maybe Bill wanted to make the players feel responsible and step up themselves?

8 posts in one night for a Shock game...good to see some interest here as the city needs something to cheer about this fall (in spite of the Millen firing).

Pierson may not be available for the next series, but if they survive, hopefully she will be fine for the finals.

I see the Sparks snuck into the conference finals too as the league hopes that they can get in the finals to promote and live off of Candy Parker ratings..

If I am not mistaken, the Candace Spark(ers) came into the Brawl at the Palace part 2 (Girls Gone Wild style) with a losing record. They took that game from the Shock and proceeded to win a couple more games before and after the Olympic break and secure a playoff spot.

They looked terrible in game 2 vs Seattle Storm, but without Lauren Jackson the Storm could not hold on to win game 3 at home despite the Cheryl Swoops, Sue Bird and Swin Cash heroics...

The Shock are better than the Sparks, but I would not want to face them with out Pierson. The Candace Parker factor could weigh heavy here on the powers that be to make sure she is there in the end.

Of course both teams need to win their conference finals before I put them in a finals meeting:sssh:

I didn't watch the game so i'm not sure what happened, but it seems like the Shock have emotional problems against the liberty in the 4th quarter. Didn't this happen during the year as well (getting outscored by alot). I don't know if i'm going to watch this series; i don't mean to sound mean, but that liberty center Mcarville (?) really freaks me out.

I saw the first half, and then tivo'd the second to watch the debate. They looked tentative in the first half as both teams had trouble finding the hoop and the Shock had to many turnovers. They lead at one point 19-8 in the second qtr before finishing the half leading 29-23. Without the turnovers they could have had a 15 point lead and possibly coasted to the victory instead of losing by 4.

I have not watched the second half, but according to Bill's post game comments they didn't play smart in the 4th and missed to many ezy shots for the game and in the end.

Next two games (if necessary) are at home but they really miss Plenette Pierson...

LA Dre
09-28-2008, 05:15 PM
Nice wake up in the 4th qtr today as the Shock came back from a 8 point deficit at the end of third to win 64-55. They outscored the Liberty 26-9 in the 4th. The Liberty almost won the game with their inside game in the first half and then their three ball in the 3rd qtr, but came up short in both areas in the all important 4th qtr when the Shock were on the brink of elimination.

Nolan took to many shots, but did drive in the 4th to get some points at the FT line. Plenette Pierson came off the bench in Willis Reed like manner and scored 10 points and grabbed a few key rebounds.

The Shock defense forced 18 Liberty turnovers many of those coming down the stretch where the Liberty either missed the shot or were stripped of the ball.

The game was played at EMU, and according to the announcers the Shock did not get a chance to come down early to test the hoops, but Liberty were there yesterday.

Key to tomorrows win is to hit shots early, get the McCarville in foul trouble early, make sure Plennette Pierson's shoulder is being worked on by Arne Kander tonight and win the 4th quarter.

GO SHOCK!!!

Pierson, who played 24 minutes in her customary sixth-woman role, acknowledged that she was in extreme discomfort, but said she was helped by an unorthodox treatment session suggested by Detroit Pistonshttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/mag-glass_10x10.gif (http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080928/SPORTS04/80928026#) trainer Arnie Kander.

The Shock trainer applied a poultice to Pierson’s shoulder that included dehydrated turnips and cucumbers.

“I guess it is supposed to drain the blood away from the injury,” Pierson said. “They suggested it, and we tried it, and I was able to be out there for my teammates.”

I guess Arnie could not come up with any concoction to fix Cheryl Ford's ACL.....Somebody's going to have to stop the Liberty center McCarville to guarantee a win...

With the LA Sparks now out, there won't be any conspiracies by the league to get Candice Parker a ring. Laimbeers' Ladies should be able to win that series vs San Antonio without the refs interference. (I feel that they wanted Diana Tarasi to win last year).

Plus the Shock can avenge the San Antonio victory over Pistons in 2005......:sssh:..

Man what a game, the Shock is up 2-0. When was the last time the Pistons was up two of anything?

Shock ready to avenge last years loss to the Mercury and Piston's loss to the Spurs in 2005.

Now I am trying to figure out how San Antonio they beat the Sparks or even won 25 games this season??? You shut down Becky Hammond, they got nuthin. We may have caught a break here as the Sparks would have been much tougher especially with no Cheryl Ford and a half of Plennette Pierson...

:hail:Katie ready to get the MVP trophy on Sunday:sweep:That's right get out the broom

If Curry fails, then Mr. D and JD will have to give in and give it to Bill & Horn

To bad the Pistons will be in Miami Sunday and can't be in the house to see how a Detroit team is supposed to win:tape2:

Finally got to see the game. That Katie is sumpin' else! Reminds me of Chauncey when he's cookin'. In fact, both her and Tweety remind of CBill and Rip in their play.

Yeah, it's scary how both the Pistons and Shock mirror each other.

Katie will rock you to sleep like C-Bills.
Tweety always is in constant full speed motion like Rip coming off curls.
Ford reminds me of Sheed except she actually plays in the paint.:D But she is always talking %%%% on the floor like Sheed.

Oh, and that light switch mentality they both play with.

I finally got to actually watch a game in this series (granted there have only been 2 LOL). The Shock really are the Pistons, but the Pistons of old with defense and late game execution mixed in with all the bad habits.

I agree. They're the same mold as our beloved Pistons.

Cmon you gals get it together for crying out loud. On the other hand, I'd love to see them clinch at the Palace. But the way they are playing in the first half reminds me of someone....hmmm...who?...reminds me of .....of....of....that switch again, god I don't want the switch to be Pistons/Shock DNA? God forbid.

C'mon Shock. Go Shock! C'mon. Let's get another championship for Bill Laimbeer!

Oh yeah. You gotta love the defense. So fun to watch competent defense.

Yep, just like their palace-mates down four at the half as they cannot put away a team at home even if it is 50 miles away. Laims sitting Katie Smith nearly the entire 2nd qtr with her two fouls and they are still within striking distance. She will have to go the full second half in order to close this one out today.

Nolan is 3-12 shooting with most of those from the outside and Braxton is 2/10 from mostly inside.

Taj will have to move inside take some of those shots if Tara is going to continue to play like a lazy Sheed....

The Shock went to the line one time in the first half so hopefully Bill showed them that stat and someone decides to penetrate instead of the outside jumpers...yep just like dem Pistons....:sssh:

Dominating 4th quarter for the Shock who despite looking tentative and letting the refs control the foul discrepancy in the first three quarters, prevailed like a champion should.

Now it's Six Championship Drive with 3 titles for each tenant. OK Pistons ...it's your move. For Mike Curry, he has to prove that he deserves the job more so than Bill Laimbeer who now has more titles in Detroit (5) than any member of the current Pistons or Red Wings.............except Mr D of course who has 6 with his Tampa Bay Lightning Cup.

Great Job. I mean this 'ship is unbelievable. Ford out, Nolan playing at maybe 75% and no Cheryl Ford for most of the season, then you lose Pierson to suspension and then injury. This was a great job. The Shock has something that the Pistons don't have, Katie Smith. Katie is one helluva competitor, her and the coaching staff willed this team to a title., UNBELIEVABLE!!!

Bill Laimbeer has thoroughly impressed me this series. I never really got the hype from people wanting him to coach, but he was on point this series. When they were facing the zone you could hear him screaming swing the ball. The play-calls were great. And he kept his composure today when the Shock were getting semi-screwed by the refs and in turn his team kept his cool. He was great and most importantly the team responds and listens to him. He keeps them together. Now if he can work on figuring out how to stop runs, he'd be even better.

Go Shock! Dominating 4th quarter. The last time the Shock won in 03, the Pistons went on to win the NBA title (we'll skip 07' for the purpose of making my point LOL)

Sheed who? The Pistons could have beaten the Celtics if he didn't went and hugged Kevin Garnette at the beginning of each game like he was his girlfriend.

The Pistons would have beaten the Celts if Chauncey Billups played anything like KS (or someone sat him down more in favor of Stuck)

Nolan is cuter. Thomas should have stayed around in MoTown like Dumar, Laimbeer and Malhorn. Now look at him and his legacy in New York. What a waste. :hoops:

That is very similar to the Yao Ming story. Cheryl Ford + Kwame Brown + Rip Hamilton's arm DNA = the American Yao Ming.
