You weren't allowed to vote for your own coach. I'm sure Darko, Arroyo, and Delfino all voted for Flip, though.

Isn't Flip a "player's coach"?
Why wouldn't guys want to play for him them? Any ideas?

Because he's not good enough to win on a high level in players view? :sssh:

Maybe cause most players would rather get yelled at by a coach and win a ship, than have a nice little tea party with the coach and flame out in the conference finals.
Or maybe they just can't stand reading that massive playbook of iso's he's got.

it obvious most these players arn't interested in winning a ring.... Mike D'Antoni is never going to win anything with his style but lots of scoring records... and the second that nash hangs it up or has a drop off that team is done.
There are only two coaches today that i would want to come to detroit and as much as I hate to say it Jackson is one of them, hate him to the end of time but the job he's done in LA this time around has to make some of us that said he could only ride two superstars to titles rethink how we judge him. The other is Pop and how anybody doesn't list him highly doesn't know a thing about the game or care about the ring that there suppose to be working for.
Avery may have potential but not sold yet. Nate in the same group. as for the rest good coaches but not somebody i trust to get me a ring.
Riley has lost what ever he had, and never have been sold on his coaching....

I thought he did a great job motivating his team to come back on Dallas a few years back.

I thought the refs did an even better job of letting them back into the series.... but his i'll take over the team now that its ready to win a title this year gimmick was weak as it gets...
Nice split between...
"My goal is to win a title" - Phil, Pops
"My goal is to score points and have fun" - D'Antoni, Nelson
"I can't remember any coach's name other than my own and I can't / won't vote for him" - everybody else

If all of the Piston players surveyed would have voted for Flip, he would have 3.3% of the vote.

I wonder who KG voted for... :sssh:
I absolutely love these player polls. They represent the pinnacle of self-interest and a herd mentality.
Sure, y'all notice Flip missing.......Where's LB and Cola.

Doesn't herd mentality show up when each participant can see the other participants doing something? In this case, it would see to be the opposite. They all give their own opinion. Also, they get nothing out of it, so self-interest would not be served.

The PTI guys asked Phil Jackson today who was the best team in the NBA and he said .....Detroit? Despite their recent 3 game slide. He made a comment about the organization showing renewed interest in playing their youth.....He also said the New Orleans was probably the best team in the east? So bottom line is we don't know what his was smoking today, but if it was good and he shares it his players, then no wonder everyone wants to play for him.:)

Yea, I heard that also. I've gotta start watching better shows........Just kidding, I like both "PTI" and "Around the Horn". He did win the coach of the year once....so he must be ok.

Phil sat out that year after losing to LB and was embarrassed by the 4-1 ouster in the finals after assuming that it would be a sweep. However he did realize that the Pistons had something going there and may been critical of LB while praising the Pistons in his book.
I am sure he would have considered taking over the Pistons reins if he had been offerred the gig and probably would have had Darko actually playin in the 05-06 season. However that darn Kevin McHale ruined that scenario by firing Flip mid season and there he was waiting in the wings ready to lose more conference finals. We could have even had Nate McMillan instead of Flip "I only recognize/play vets" Saunders.:yellowprison:
