Larry Brown, the Philadelphia 76ers (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/teams/phi/)' executive vice president, told Philadelphia magazine in an interview that he has no interest in replacing coach Maurice Cheeks, who is in the final year of a three-year contract.
"I could never stab Mo in the back like that," Brown is quoted as saying in the magazine's February issue. Brown did say he wants to coach again.
Cheeks served as an assistant to Brown with the Sixers before being hired in 2001 as head coach of the Portland Trail Blazers (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/teams/por/). Though there still might be some who believe Brown will replace Cheeks, one NBA source said, "I think there is no chance that he will be their next coach."

Yeah right!!! Most teams don't let coaches go into the final year of there contract with out an extention. It makes the players believe te coach is a lame duck. So Larry in a way has already stabbed him in the back.

(A)"No I'm not interested in the Sixers job"

(B)"Mo is doing a great job as sixers coach"

(C)"I could never stab Mo in the back like that,"

Which quote did Larry Brown actually choose to use? Two of them do not undermine Mo. One of them does. Yep. He picked choice "C"

Larry Brown is not a good person.

Even when the guy says something that is NOT wrong. You guys make it wrong.

Pathetic. Sad.

Well, there is something to be said for consistency. Flip gets the same treatment...

Can you believe what he said though? He's got history of saying one thing and doing something else.

I'm not making it wrong. I tremendously respect the guy and spent my entire career dealing with lying backstabbers, many of whom remain good friends of mine.

And I don't even think LB is even a lying backstabber; he just has a childlike ability to cause chaos in the most efficient possible way. Darth Tater is exactly right here.

Brown is not stabbing Cheeks in the back, he is getting someone else to do it. Bank on it.

Yup! When I saw the title of this thread, I thought, so how long do we have until it's Coach Larry again?

I still love good ol' LB, though.

An NBA source said Sunday that Philadelphia 76ers (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/teams/phi/) executive vice president Larry Brown has drawn interest as a candidate for the Chicago Bulls (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/teams/chi/)' head coaching job.
The Bulls fired Scott Skiles on Dec. 24. Three days later, Jim Boylan was named interim head coach for the rest of the season. Brown, a former Sixers coach for six years, has been out of coaching since the 2005-06 season, when he went 23-59 with the New York Knicks (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/teams/nyk/).

Exactly. It's like falling in love with a girl you know is bad news. Seductive, predictable and destructive.
