I am so excited about this time of year, especially since I dont have to worry about the LIONS!!!! We are going to witness history this year,,,but I'll save my predictions for later. Lets just enjoy today for today.

It's that time already? I am still immersed in basketball and hockey.

The media hype for the Tigers is the biggest I've ever seen. And that worries me, of course.

That being said, I'm definitely getting the MLB package.

I don't think I'll have enough time to make the purchase worthwhile. And my wife would kill me.

Don't tell her. Pay the bill in one lump sum with the debit card from your secret slush account at Fifth Third. Then pretend that channel is free and everyone gets it.

I just bought tix to a couple spring training games. Anyone here ever go to those? I'm sure it will be a festive atmosphere this year.

She'll be onto it very quickly if she notices me watching a few baseball games. She won't know if I pay for it since I take care of all our financial stuff, but she'll find out soon enough after I've been watching all the games.

TaS, are you a marriage counselor? :)

I've been to a couple of Tigers/Braves games in Orlando. Never been to Lakeland though. The Grapefruit games are great but now they are becoming as expensive as the real games. The stadium in Orlando is pretty nice but I could do without the Disneyesque atmosphere.

I'd love to go down to Lakeland for the month of March and just watch grapefruit ball for a month. Rent a room at a motel, hang out by the pool, go to games, hang out at the bar at night. Talk about a bachelor's dream. This year would have been a good time to do it. Alas, I think my time has passed.

I'm actually going to go to the Blue Jays park in Dunedin, just outside of Tampa Bay. Then I'll swing through Lakeland.

I went to Lakeland when I was 8 years old, just after they won the WS. I was sort of shocked when my boyhood idol, Lou Whitaker, decided not to sign any autographs after the game and sprinted to his car (corvette I think) with a bunch of us chasing him. That is when I realized that pro athletes are just like regular people, but meaner.

The Jays are my team. Be sure to tell the boys that Jammer says hi.

And much, much richer.

Turned 40 in December and my brother got me a Tigers Jersey with my last name on it and the number is 40.

Cool gift idea but I haven't really found the opportunities to wear it.

went to the tigers/yankees game today in lakeland - very hot today. nice stadium. verlander got rocked in the 1st and 2nd innings, but oh well. it was cool to see the opening day pitcher & starting lineup. cabrera is a big boy, and hessman is huge too. there were a fair amount of yankee fans, and an attendance record was set with 9,660 fans. good times.

Now that a lot of our hitters are 30+ at bats into the pre season, I thought I'd take a look at how the averages are shaking out. Obviously, these are all over the place due to the relatively small sample size, but it's still fun to look at.

1) Polanco- 19/40- .475 (on fire)
2) W. Ramirez 7/16- .438
3) Pudge 15/35- .429 with 6HR's (great news if he hits well this year).
4) T. Perez- 11/26- .423
5) R. Santiago- 11/26- .423
6) B. Clevlen- 13/31- .419
7) F. Guzman- 11/27- .407
8) Mags- .366
9) Cabrera- .300
10) Inge- .300 (this would also be unreal if he could hit .280+)
11) Guillen- .295

The real bummer is Sheff at .148. Coming off an injury with some court dates to worry about. I'm sure he'll come around.

The good news seems to be that Pudge and Inge are hitting well and all those backups are hitting for average. We need all the scrubs to be focused on making contact and getting on base by any means necessary this year.

We nitpick a lot with the end of the Pistons' roster, so here is goes with the Tigers!

Brent Clevlen.

30 seconds with Brent Clevlen (http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080303/SPORTS0104/803030371/1129/sports0104)

According to manager Jim Leyland, you're a major league outfielder already. The only challenge for you, he said, is "getting the bat to meet the ball more often."

OK, so his defense is MLB quality, but Leylands says he needs to improve his hitting. So he shows up at spring training and hits .419.

Today they decided to send him back to the minors.

What did he need to do to make the team? Did they just bring him up to give him a taste and it wasn't really a tryout?

Last year he only got 10 at bats in the big leagues and got 1 hit. In 2006, he got a lot of at bats and hit .282 with 3HR with a slg of .641.

Seems to me like he should be playing for some team at this point.
