S. Alabama.........now there's a team that could go far.......except they face my pick........:stirthepot:. Now when Drake plays you'll need an umbrella cause it's going to rain jump shots..........Look for a high percent of shots made from them....very high.

Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more
In the regular season there's nothing that so becomes a fan
As modest stillness and humility (yeah, right)
But when the blast of war blows in our ears and the game is afoot,
Then imitate the action of the tiger!

Or perhaps...

The rusted chains of prison moons
Are shattered by the sun.
I walk a road, horizons change
The tournament's begun.

Maybe this one...

We're leaving together,
But still its farewell
And maybe we'll come back,
To earth, who can tell?
I guess there is no one to blame
We're leaving ground
Will things ever be the same again?

Its the final countdown...

O Lord: support us all the day long,
until the shadows lengthen and the evening comes,
and the busy world is hushed,
and the fever of life is over,
and our work is done.

Then, in your mercy,
grant us a safe lodging ,
and a holy rest,
and peace at the last.

(With Apologies to Uriah Heep)

in the magic auditorium
Some were singing, some were dancing
While the midnight moon shone brightly overhead.

The stars so gaily glistened
And the fans in silence listened to
Dick Vitale tell of lives that he had led.

Let the bells of freedom ring
Songs of love to March's king.

Let's all go to the athelete's birthday
It's in the auditorium, but not so far away
Much to do and so much to say
While we listened to the orchid orchestra play.

I guess picking teams from either the ACC or the South in general may not always be the best strategy.

But for one brief shining moment I was tied for first.

One blog post on a Kentucky sports blog I read provided this rundown of why yesterday was the lamest day of first round NCAA hoops ever, which makes sense when you consider all of these things together:

-Only 3 out of 16 games finished with margins under 10 points

-Only 5 games had margins of 8 or less AT HALFTIME!!!

-Only 2 out of 16 lower seeded teams won (#11 Kansas St. and #9 Texas A&M)

-The only game truly decided in the last minute (not Georgia-Xavier) was Duke-Belmont. And that game went Duke’s way, making it that much worse.

-Only 5 guys scored more than 25 points in a game, and 4 of them lost, in semi-blowouts.

-We saw Kent St. score 10 in a half, Winthrop score 11 in a half, and Mississippi Valley St. score 29 IN A GAME.

-Only 2 of the 16 winners yesterday come from non-major conferences, Xavier and UNLV and they both are in nearly major conferences.I left off his last bullet point of Kentucky losing, since I know not everyone loves my Wildcats (*cough* HQ *cough*). But I left the Duke one in, since I'm sure we all hate them. :heh:

I didn't really take any chances either. About the riskiest I got was taking the home state Kentucky teams in the first round. that didn't really pay off for me.

I've only watched a handful of college games this year. I watched a UNC game where the Tar Heels looked like the Spurs playing against Michigan. After seeing that game, I picked UNC to win it all. The rest? I tried to pick teams with recent winning streaks, but I didn't find a single page with the specific information I was looking for so I got lazy and just picked teams.

I do feel bad for Drake, though. Having been on the business end of the shot that probably gets shown more than any other in NCAA tourney history (Laettner's buzzer-beater in '92), I know how much it sucks to suffer through a highlight like that. But my Wildcats have a nice little record of 7 national titles (including 2 since that shot) to console me whenever it comes up. But what does a Drake fan have? Not much...and even so, they'll probably have to see that shot being replayed over and over for the rest of eternity, in every NCAA tourney advertisement.

San Diego over Connecticut by one point. Another upset.

Dumars4Ever
03-21-2008, 07:18 PM
Wow, how about San Diego! That was quite a gutsy win. I think both of their best players were on the bench when they needed a bucket at the end of OT; one had fouled out and the other was injured. But they nailed a cold-blooded J to win it.

The very last play was kind of weird. UConn was down 1 with 1.2 sec left and had to throw it all the way down the court after a timeout, so SD put a big guy in to guard the inbounder. The UConn inbounder ran from one side of the baseline to the other, as you can of course do after a made bucket...but the SD big man STAYS IN THE SAME SPOT, waving his arms like an idiot, even though the inbounder has run 20 feet away from him!! WTF was that all about? SD deflected the inbounds pass near midcourt to clinch the win, but man, if UConn had pulled off a miracle buzzer-beater, that idiot big man who didn't chase after the inbounder would have been the biggest escape goat ever!

LA Dre
03-21-2008, 07:38 PM
Two barnburners down in Tampa today. Betcha nobody had San Diego winning today as they were a 11.5 point dog. Now cinderella plays the #12 Western Kentucky who also won their game in OT. Can San Diego contain the 3 point barrage by W. Kentucky?

Like I said the Bruins would come back to steal a victory down the highway from their campus. Why the Aggies continued to attack Kevin Love in the middle was beyond me...the refs were not going to call a foul on him, (well they called 2) What did he have about 9 blocks?? At least a third of the blocks were probably fouls on Love..he even tackled a player on the floor and there was no call....The Aggs could shoot the long range jumper, but could have thrown up some short jumpers to beat the Bruins. UCLA had its test and will dispose of San Diego next week with no problem...unless Love trips and injures himself on campus..

He is the best Freshman out there over both OJ Mayo and Beasley. He looks better than Greg Oden did in his freshman year. :stirthepot: and looks better than Darko does now:)

If you view only the top half of my bracket (East & South), everything looks pretty good. Then look at the bottom half (Midwest & West), it pretty much turns blood red...I'm willing to call my bracket a total loss.

Moving forward, my only satisfaction will be if State advances next weekend :)

1. GLEN RICE
2. JJ REDICK
3. SHAWN RESPERT
4. KYLE KORVER
5. CHRIS JACKSON
6. DENNIS SCOTT
7. REGGIE MILLER

Dude, Chris Jackson should be WAY higher on your list. Behind Korver? WTF?! The only guy on your list I'd rate at the same level as a deadly college shooter as Jackson was Rice, because he was so $$$$$$ in the tournament during UM's title run.

Only reason I picked against Michigan State is because I figured everyone here would pick them to go a long way (or even win it all... ahem. Warthog), so if I picked against them and they lost early I'd pick up some nice points.

On the flip side, it could cost me a few points against EVERYONE.

Costanzatown, you stink!

I've got UNC winning it all. They play the red-hot Washington State Cougars next. It should be a great game; Washington dominated their first two games.

You mean the North Carolina "let's run up the score and play our starters to the end even with a 30 point lead." Tarheels?? :)

Can't officially wish that on any team, but in the end, the finals will be a matchup between the Heels and the lucky Bruins who are the beneficiaries of refs calls in crunch time 3 of their last 4 games. Check out this vid probably put up by an Aggie. Stanford and USC fans feel their pain as they fell victims to the refs whistle swallowing in the Pac 10 Tourney 2 weeks ago.:sssh:

I wonder if it is officiating that is horrible or we get all the fancy-shmancy reviews available, along with internet replays and stuff like that, so that the mistakes are all out there in the spot light.

UNC still has a lot of energy left over from all those years of running the four corners.

The funny thing is none of the guys playing now probably ever saw a 4 corner offense.. wasn't that the 70's and early 80's when Dean ran that darn thing..

Dumars4Ever

Smith and UNC ran it at times all the way into the '80s, but that went out when the NCAA finally started using a shot clock in the mid '80s.

Including a very annoying ACC tourny game against Virginia with Ralph Sampson that I remember particularly vividly.

College hoops started using a 45 second clock in 1985.

Final four set as all # 1 seeds for the first time in history?? All teams colors are a shade of blue and white.

UCLA and Menphis had scares in of their opening two games but breezed into the final four this weekend.

Kansas and North Carolina blew out their two opening weekend opponents, bit then both had to hold on win final four clinching games.

Outstanding individual play in the tourney by Davison Stephen Curry UCLA's Kevin Love and North Carolina's Tyler Hansbrough.

Can Tyler step up his game and will the Heels to the title? Does anybody see him being successful in the NBA, or will be another Tarhill/Bluedevil from NC that will fight for pt.

Will UCLA finall win the whole thing now that there is no Florida Gators there to stop them??

Only two of us in the pf pool picked Memphis, me and CJ, so if they win, CJ gets the win as I messed up neglecting to pick their opponent:yellowprison:

What a night! Memphis breezes to a win and Kansas destroys the darlings of the tournament. If Memphis wins, I win $100 from my other bracket, where I'm tied for first with someone who picked Kansas to go all the way!

Don't expect to win. Hansborough had more fingers in his face that Vlasic has pickles.... Although my predicting a Kansas win with my bracket finished could be a good omen for you.:)

Memphis had this game and the FT shooting came back to haunt them in the end. Chris Douglas-roberts, the guy from Nortwestern HS in Detroit missed 3 key free throws down the stretch and freshman Rose missed 1. Then the Tigers failed to foul a Jayhawk player in the last 10 seconds while protecting a 3 point lead.

To top it off Memphis scores 3 FT the last 2 mins and no FG's while the Jayhawks go on an 18-3 run to take over the game and win in OT

Good game though and a lot a good athletes on both teams.

That sure was an exciting finish! Memphis gagged it away, but how clutch was Kansas...they made some COLOSSAL shots in the final two minutes in the biggest stage of them all. It was an amazingly impressive performance down the stretch by them.

Some Tiger team had to lose on Monday and since the Detroit Tigers had the day off the Memphis Tigers had to suffer that fate..

I think Derrick Rose attempted to foul the guy with the ball coming down the floor, but the refs who missed a ton of fouls in that game swallowed their whistles & ignored it and let the guy who received the pass shoot...which would have been the right thing to do, but unfortunately for the Tigers the three ball went in..after than everybody in america knew that the Kansas momentum would carry them to the victory in OT

Rose is a freshman...if they had won, he probably would have gone pro and I think Riles would have taken him over Beasley.....all the heat needed was Rose, Marion and Wade...and Shaq may have considered coming back:)

Memphis seemed confused on that last play. Calipari said afterwards that they were trying to foul, but as KU's point guard brought it up the floor and drove to the right, Rose briefly held his arms up to indicate to the refs that he wasn't trying to foul.

Dre, you don't think Rose is coming back to school for another year, do you? Everyone is expecting him to turn pro. He's pretty much a lock to go either #1 or #2 overall in the draft, with Beasley being the other potential top pick.

My buddy thinks that Rose will go now and he is afraid he will fall to someone in the east like Miami or Milwaukee and terrorize the east not next year but at least from 2010 to 2015!! I know he is point guard, but I would trade Rip and our # 1 to get him and move CB to the 2

If memphis had won, Coynejeremey would have won our tourney with 145 points and I would have finished second with 127. Instead I had to settle for 5th place with my 101..

Kansas had the highest calculated probability to win and wasn't a popular pick, so I was somewhat gambling on their winning since I knew that it would be nearly impossible to do good otherwise. Actually, I thought it was over when I saw the score scrolling and Memphis was up 8 in the 2nd half.

Yep Candace Parker gets another championship last night and was just selected #1 by the LA Sparks ...That means not only a possible return to the finals for the Sparks as she teams up with Lisa Leslie. But expect her to show up on a few TV shows too since she is now in Hollywood. The endorsements are endless...I want to introduce her to my son who is the same age as her to capitalize on the mula but at 6'4, she is 2 inches taller than him and she is already engaged to the Shelden Wiliams of the Sacramento Kings...
