FOX Sports on MSN - NBA - Howard: 'I have and do partake in smoking weed' (http://msn.foxsports.com/nba/story/8073346?MSNHPHMA)

First off, why would you admit to smoking weed in a radio interview? Why would you do this during the playoffs of all times to do it? He claims smoking weed doesn't affect his game and he does it in the off season. Are we really so sure that it is not affecting his game and that he only does it in the off season? I don't know if I buy either of those claims.

It will be intersting to see what KING Stern has to say about this information and what the player association does if he is fined or suspended.

I agree. Bad move for him to say this thing now.

How could it?
and that he only does it in the off season? Why would that matter?

I said my piece on this in chat last night, but I'll repeat this here.

Marijuana criminalization is a joke that most of society laughs at when the go to the movies and watch modern comedies.

I think Howard was reckless, but also brave for coming out on this. It's people having the courage to stand up and be honest, that push the boundaries. It costs $25,000 a year to incarcerate someone arrested for non-violent drug use. There are 100's of thousands of people in jail for this. The social cost of fighting a substance that is less harmful than alcohol is staggering. And wrong in my opinion.

Absolutely. And until you get more prominent people to speak out nothing will change.

Never smoke it, but don't know why it is illegal either since alcohol is...but both are addictive and can lead to do something that you don't remember the next day or can cause serious harm to you and others.

:tape2:Agree he could have waited until the end of the season to admit what others already know that he and other athletes lite it up just like plain folks who don't play sports:detective:

Dumb thing to say in light of Napoleon.

This kind of stuff bores the %%%%e out of me. There's always at least 1 boring off the court subject that appears every year that everyone (the media) gets all worked up about, thinking that everyone else cares too.

I don't hear anyone still talking about John Amaechi. (yeah, who?)

I don't want anything to be legal that I cannot bottle up and prescribe, making FAT money for myself and the pharmaceutical companies in the process.

Average folks can't grow Xanax in their backyard.

I'm down with that.

I agree, but what poor timing. Revealing to a drug addict (Michael Irvin) about marijuana use. If he wanted to admit something, he should have admited this to a friend or off the record. Obviously many of us smoke weed, no big deal. He just used poor judgement (maybe he was high) to admit something like that a day before a playoff game. Also, he implicated other nba players. Idiot.

Quote of the day. :pound:

I don't care if the day just started.

Nothing wrong with smoking...it just leads to poor judgment.

I agree it was bad timing. Josh should have joined NORML and done a national ad campaign in the offseason.

I was kinda hoping a wave of guys would come out, and really drive Stern up the wall.

Stern would have had a heart attack. Imagine about 150 players just came out and said "yes to marijuana".

Stern doesn't care. If he did there would be more testing. The league only cares about hardcore drugs narcotics/ steroids.

However, Stern won't tollerate the league being embrassed. Guy's openingly talking about getting high doesn't help the image he is trying to peddle to his high class wine and chesse crowd. NBA players know Stern will protect the image of the league at all costs.

My 2 cents on the subject:

Cent #1: Really bad timing

Cent #2: Marijuana should be legalized (No, I don't smoke it), just like prostitution should be (No, I've never used one). Legalizing them both would make them safer & would make financial sense for the government. They could then be taxed and it would free up a lot of resources - space in the prisons, time in the court room & focus of law enforcement on more serious offenses.

Bonus Off Topic Cent: The U.S. and Canada should get rid of the 1 cent coin.

Totally disagree.

The penny is only worthless because the government constantly inflates the money supply to deficit spend. The further you get from the penny, the closer you are to what is happening in Zimbabwe.

In August of 2007, they issued their first $200,000 bill.

In January this year, they issued their first $10,000,000 bill.

We need our governments to show some restraint and use an intelligent monetary policy.

Back to topic,

This will probably blow over. I don't see many more millionaires coming out and potentially compromising their careers.

How much do you want me to pay in order to ride the pony at Meijers?

You're mean.

Howard has been bricking everything since this weed business went public, but he was already missing like crazy in the first couple of games of the series, so naybe it's not making much of a difference either way. He's shooting 15-58 from the floor in this series, which is 26%...yikes.

All right, but the governments should at least make some effort to have the size of the coins reflect their value. Big ones being worth less than little ones is silly and the only purpose is to confuse tourists.

Oh yeah, Howard... Admitting to a crime in print (whether it should be a crime or not) is kinda dumb.

When I was in New Zealand, the $2 coin was much smaller than the $1 coin. But it was a little thicker.

"What can I say? If you can do it and it's not affecting your everyday life, why stop?" - Josh Howard

Again, I only do that stuff in the off-season. ...and I try not to let it affect my performance in this forum.

Not me.

I think the world would be a better place if you substituted herb for booze as the most popular and acceptable mind-altering substance.

...As long as the air-traffic-controller that's responsible for landing my plane isn't baked, I'm cool with people getting a little "grassed up" now and then.

There's a time and a place for everything (Mine and Josh's is in the off-season).

That's kind of what I'm thinking. Even though I never even tried "herbs", as long as it is within the reasonable frame, why not? And why make it public?

I was listening to the Jim Rome show in my car today and "The Pimp in the Box" was talking about one of the Vegas betting services having a prop-line on the next NBA player to come out and announce that he smokes weed.

None other than our own Rasheed Wallace was leading the board with the lowest odds. :smoke06:

I would think Damon Stoudamire would be leading the board. Hasn't his house been raided twice? I know the first time they raided his home they found like a pound of weed, but he got off because something was wrong with the search warrant.
